1. When Sarah was one hundred twenty-seven years old, she died in Kiriath-Arba, better known as Hebron, in the land of Canaan. After Abraham had mourned for her,

2. శారా కనాను దేశమందలి హెబ్రోనను కిర్యతర్బాలో మృతిబొందెను; అప్పుడు అబ్రాహాము శారా నిమిత్తము అంగలార్చుటకును ఆమెను గూర్చి యేడ్చుటకును వచ్చెను.

3. he went to the Hittites and said,

4. 'I live as a foreigner in your land, and I don't own any property where I can bury my wife. Please let me buy a piece of land.'

5. హేతు కుమారులు అయ్యా మా మాట వినుము. నీవు మా మధ్యను మహారాజవై యున్నావు;

5. Sir,' they answered, 'you are an important man. Choose the best place to bury your wife. None of us would refuse you a resting place for your dead.'

6. మా శ్మశాన భూములలో అతి శ్రేష్టమైన దానియందు మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతిపెట్టుము; నీవు మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతి పెట్టునట్లు మాలో తన శ్మశానభూమి ఇయ్యనొల్లనివాడు ఎవడును లేడని అబ్రాహాము కుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

7. Abraham bowed down

8. and replied, 'If you are willing to let me bury my wife here, please ask Zohar's son Ephron

9. సోహరు కుమారుడైన ఎఫ్రోను తన పొలము చివరను తనకు కలిగియున్న మక్పేలా గుహను నాకిచ్చునట్లు నా పక్షముగా అతనితో మనవిచేయుడి. మీ మధ్యను శ్మశాన భూమిగా నుండుటకు నిండు వెలకు అతడు దానిని నాకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా ఇయ్యవలెనని వారితో చెప్పెను.

9. to sell me Machpelah Cave at the end of his field. I'll pay what it's worth, and all of you can be witnesses.'

10. అప్పుడు ఎఫ్రోను హేతు కుమారులమధ్యను కూర్చుండి యుండెను. హిత్తీయుడైన ఎఫ్రోను తన ఊరి గవిని ప్రవేశించువారందరి యెదుట హేతు కుమారులకు వినబడునట్లు అబ్రాహాముతో చెప్పిన ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమనగా

10. Ephron was sitting there near the city gate, when Abraham made this request, and he answered,

11. అయ్యా అట్లు కాదు నా మనవి నాలకించుము, ఆ పొలమును నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; దానిలో నున్న గుహను నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; నా ప్రజల యెదుట అది నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతి పెట్టుమనెను

11. 'Sir, the whole field, including the cave, is yours. With my own people as witnesses, I freely give it to you as a burial place for your dead.'

12. అప్పుడు అబ్రాహాము ఆ దేశపు ప్రజల యెదుట సాగిలపడి

12. Once again, Abraham bowed down

13. సరేకాని నా మనవి ఆలకించుము. ఆ పొలమునకు వెల యిచ్చెదను; అది నాయొద్ద పుచ్చుకొనిన యెడల మృతిబొందిన నా భార్యను పాతి పెట్టెదనని ఆ దేశ ప్రజలకు వినబడు నట్లు ఎఫ్రోనుతో చెప్పెను.

13. and said to Ephron, 'In front of these witnesses, I offer you the full price, so I can bury my wife. Please accept my offer.'

14. అందుకు ఎఫ్రోను అయ్యా నా మాట వినుము; ఆ భూమి నాలుగు వందల తులముల వెండి చేయును;

14. But sir,' the man replied, 'the property is worth only four hundred pieces of silver. Why should we haggle over such a small amount? Take the land. It's yours.'

15. నాకు నీకు అది యెంత? మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతిపెట్టుమని అబ్రాహామున కుత్తరమిచ్చెను;

16. అబ్రాహాము ఎఫ్రోను మాట వినెను. కాబట్టి హేతు కుమారులకు వినబడునట్లు ఎఫ్రోను చెప్పిన వెల అనగా వర్తకులలో చెల్లు నాలుగు వందల తులముల వెండి అబ్రాహాము తూచి అతని కిచ్చెను.

16. Abraham accepted Ephron's offer and paid him the four hundred pieces of silver in front of everyone at the city gate. That's how Abraham got Ephron's property east of Hebron, which included the field with all of its trees, as well as Machpelah Cave at the end of the field.

17. ఆలాగున మమ్రే యెదుటనున్న మక్పేలా యందలి ఎఫ్రోను పొలము, అనగా ఆ పొలమును దానియందలి గుహయు దాని పొలిమేర అంతటి లోనున్న ఆ పొలము చెట్లన్నియు,

18. అతని ఊరి గవిని ప్రవేశించు వారందరిలో హేతు కుమారుల యెదుట అబ్రాహామునకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా స్థిరపరచబడెను.

19. ఆ తరువాత అబ్రాహాము కనాను దేశములో హెబ్రోనను మమ్రే యెదుట నున్న మక్పేలా పొలము గుహలో తన భార్యయైన శారాను పాతిపెట్టెను.

19. So Abraham buried his wife Sarah in Machpelah Cave that was in the field

20. ఆ పొలమును దానిలోనున్న గుహయు హేతు కుమారుల వలన శ్మశానము కొరకు అబ్రాహామునకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా స్థిరపరచబడెను.

20. he had bought from the Hittites.
