1. దావీదు తన యొద్దనున్న జనులను లెక్కించి వారి మీద సహస్రాధిపతులను శతాధిపతులను నిర్ణయించి

1. David organized his forces. He appointed captains of thousands and captains of hundreds.

2. జనులను మూడు భాగములుగా చేసి యోవాబు చేతి క్రింద ఒక భాగమును సెరూయా కుమారుడగు అబీషై అను యోవాబు సహోదరుని చేతిక్రింద ఒక భాగమును, గిత్తీయుడైన ఇత్తయి చేతిక్రింద ఒక భాగమును ఉంచెను. దావీదునేను మీతోకూడ బయలుదేరుదునని జనులతో చెప్పగా

2. Then David deployed his troops, a third under Joab, a third under Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king then announced, 'I'm marching with you.'

3. జనులునీవు రాకూడదు, మేము పారిపోయినను జనులు దానిని లక్ష్యపెట్టరు, మాలో సగము మంది చనిపోయినను జనులు దానిని లక్ష్యపెట్టరు, మావంటి పదివేల మందితో నీవు సాటి; కాబట్టి నీవు పట్టణమందు నిలిచి మాకు సహాయము చేయవలెనని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

3. They said, 'No, you mustn't march with us. If we're forced to retreat, the enemy won't give it a second thought. And if half of us die, they won't do so either. But you are worth ten thousand of us. It will be better for us if you stay in the city and help from there.'

4. అందుకు రాజుమీ దృష్టికేది మంచిదో దాని చేసెదనని చెప్పి గుమ్మపు ప్రక్కను నిలిచి యుండగా జనులందరును గుంపులై వందల కొలదిగాను వేల కొలదిగాను బయలుదేరిరి.

4. 'If you say so,' said the king. 'I'll do what you think is best.' And so he stood beside the city gate as the whole army marched out by hundreds and by thousands.

5. అప్పుడు రాజు యోవాబును అబీషైని ఇత్తయిని పిలిచినా నిమిత్తమై ¸యౌవనుడైన అబ్షాలోమునకు దయ జూపుడని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను. జనులందరు వినుచుండగా రాజు అబ్షాలోమునుగూర్చి అధిపతులకందరికి ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

5. Then the king ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai, 'Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.' The whole army heard what the king commanded the three captains regarding Absalom.

6. జనులు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిని ఎదిరించుటకై పొలములోనికి బయలుదేరిన మీదట యుద్ధము ఎఫ్రాయిము వనములో జరుగగా

6. The army took the field to meet Israel. It turned out that the battle was joined in the Forest of Ephraim.

7. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు దావీదు సేవకుల యెదుట నిలువలేక ఓడిపోయిరి; ఆ దినమున ఇరువది వేల మంది అక్కడ హతులైరి.

7. The army of Israel was beaten badly there that day by David's men, a terrific slaughter--twenty thousand men!

8. యుద్ధము ఆ ప్రదేశమంతటను వ్యాపించెను; మరియు నాటి దినమున కత్తిచేత కూలినవారి కంటె ఎక్కువమంది అడవిలో చిక్కుబడి నాశనమైరి.

8. There was fighting helter-skelter all over the place--the forest claimed more lives that day than the sword!

9. అబ్షాలోము కంచర గాడిదమీద ఎక్కి పోవుచు దావీదు సేవకులకు ఎదురాయెను; ఆ కంచరగాడిద యొక గొప్పమస్తకి వృక్షముయొక్క చిక్కుకొమ్మల క్రిందికి పోయినప్పుడు అతని తల చెట్టుకు తగులుకొనినందున అతడు ఎత్తబడి ఆకాశమునకును భూమికిని మధ్యను వ్రేలాడు చుండగా అతని క్రిందనున్న కంచరగాడిద సాగిపోయెను.

9. Absalom ran into David's men, but was out in front of them riding his mule, when the mule ran under the branches of a huge oak tree. Absalom's head was caught in the oak and he was left dangling between heaven and earth, the mule running right out from under him.

10. ఒకడు దానిని చూచి వచ్చి అబ్షాలోము మస్తకివృక్షమున వ్రేలాడుచుండుట నేను చూచితినని యోవాబుతో చెప్పినప్పుడు

10. A solitary soldier saw him and reported it to Joab, 'I just saw Absalom hanging from an oak tree!'

11. యోవాబునీవు చూచి యుంటివే, నేల కూలునట్లు నీవతని కొట్టకపోతివేమి? నీవతని చంపినయెడల పది తులముల వెండియు ఒక నడికట్టును నీకిచ్చియుందునని తనకు సమాచారము చెప్పినవానితో అనెను.

11. Joab said to the man who told him, 'If you saw him, why didn't you kill him then and there? I'd have rewarded you with ten pieces of silver and a fancy belt.'

12. అందుకు వాడు¸యౌవనుడైన అబ్షాలోమును ఎవడును ముట్టకుండజాగ్రత్తపడుడని రాజు నీకును అబీషైకిని ఇత్తయికిని ఆజ్ఞ నిచ్చుచుండగా నేను వింటిని; వెయ్యి తులముల వెండి నా చేతిలో పెట్టినను రాజు కుమారుని నేను చంపను.

12. The man told Joab, 'Even if I'd had a chance at a thousand pieces of silver, I wouldn't have laid a hand on the king's son. We all heard the king command you and Abishai and Ittai, 'For my sake, protect the young man Absalom.'

13. మోసము చేసి నేను అతని ప్రాణమునకు ముప్పు తెచ్చిన యెడల అది రాజునకు తెలియకపోదు, రాజు సన్నిధిని నీవే నాకు విరోధివగుదువు గదా అని యోవాబుతో అనగా

13. Why, I'd be risking my life, for nothing is hidden from the king. And you would have just stood there!'

14. యోవాబునీవు చేయువరకు నేను కాచుకొని యుందునా? అని చెప్పి మూడు బాణములు చేత పట్టుకొని పోయి మస్తకివృక్షమున వ్రేలాడుచు ఇంకను ప్రాణముతో నున్న అబ్షాలోముయొక్క గుండెకు గురిపెట్టి

14. Joab said, 'I can't waste my time with you.' He then grabbed three knives and stabbed Absalom in the heart while he was still alive in the tree;

15. తన ఆయుధములను మోయువారు పదిమంది చుట్టు చుట్టుకొని యుండగా అబ్షాలోమును కొట్టి చంపెను.

15. by then Absalom was surrounded by ten of Joab's armor bearers; they hacked away at him and killed him.

16. అప్పుడు జనులను ఇక హతము చేయక విడువవలసినదని యోవాబు బాకా ఊదింపగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను తరుముకొని పోయిన జనులు తిరిగి వచ్చిరి.

16. Joab then blew the ram's horn trumpet, calling off the army in its pursuit of Israel.

17. జనులు అబ్షాలోము యొక్క కళేబరమును ఎత్తి అడవిలో ఉన్న పెద్దగోతిలో పడవేసి పెద్దరాళ్లకుప్ప దానిమీద పేర్చిన తరువాత ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును తమ తమ యిండ్లకు పోయిరి.

17. They took Absalom, dumped him into a huge pit in the forest, and piled an immense mound of rocks over him. Meanwhile the whole army of Israel was in flight, each man making his own way home.

18. తన పేరు నిలుపుటకు తనకు కుమారులు లేరనుకొని, అబ్షా లోము తాను బ్రదికియుండగా ఒక స్తంభము తెచ్చి దానిని రాజు లోయలో తన పేరట నిలువబెట్టి, అతడు ఆ స్తంభమునకు తన పేరు పెట్టియుండెను. నేటివరకు అబ్షాలోము స్తంభమని దానికి పేరు.

18. While alive, Absalom had erected for himself a pillar in the Valley of the King, 'because,' he said, 'I have no son to carry on my name.' He inscribed the pillar with his own name. To this day it is called 'The Absalom Memorial.'

19. సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహిమయస్సునేను పరుగెత్తి కొని పోయి యెహోవా తన శత్రువులను ఓడించి తనకు న్యాయము తీర్చిన వర్తమానము రాజుతో చెప్పెదననగా

19. Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, said, 'Let me run to the king and bring him the good news that GOD has delivered him from his enemies.'

20. యోవాబు ఈ దినమున ఈ వర్తమానము చెప్ప తగదు, మరియొక దినమున చెప్పవచ్చును; రాజు కుమారుడు మరణమాయెను గనుక ఈ దినమున వర్తమానము తీసికొని పోతగదని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

20. But Joab said, 'You're not the one to deliver the good news today; some other day, maybe, but it's not 'good news' today.' (This was because the king's son was dead.)

21. తరువాత కూషీని పిలిచినీవు పోయి నీవు చూచిన దానిని రాజునకు తెలియ జేయుమనగా కూషీ యోవాబునకు నమస్కారము చేసి పరుగెత్తికొని పోయెను.

21. Then Joab ordered a Cushite, 'You go. Tell the king what you've seen.' 'Yes sir,' said the Cushite, and ran off.

22. అయితే సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహి మయస్సుకూషీతోకూడ నేనును పరుగెత్తికొనిపోవు టకు సెలవిమ్మని యోవాబుతో మనవిచేయగా యోవాబునాయనా నీవెందుకు పోవలెను? చెప్పుటకు నీకు బహుమానము తెచ్చు విశేషమైన సమాచార మేదియు లేదు గదా అని అతనితో అనగా

22. Ahimaaz son of Zadok kept at it, begging Joab, 'What does it matter? Let me run too, following the Cushite.' Joab said, 'Why all this 'Run, run'? You'll get no thanks for it, I can tell you.'

23. అతడుఏమైనను సరే నేను పరుగెత్తికొని పోవుదు ననెను. అందుకు యోవాబుపొమ్మని సెలవియ్యగా అహిమయస్సు మైదానపు మార్గ మున పరుగెత్తికొని కూషీకంటె ముందుగా చేరెను.

23. 'I don't care; let me run.' 'Okay,' said Joab, 'run.' So Ahimaaz ran, taking the lower valley road, and passed the Cushite.

24. దావీదు రెండు గుమ్మముల మధ్యను నడవలో కూర్చొని యుండెను; కావలికాడు గుమ్మముపైనున్న గోడమీదికి ఎక్కి పారచూడగా ఒంటరిగా పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చుచున్న యొకడు కనబడెను. వాడు అరచి రాజునకు ఈ సంగతి తెలియజేయగా

24. David was sitting between the two gates. The sentry had gone up to the top of the gate on the wall and looked around. He saw a solitary runner.

25. రాజువాడు ఒంటరిగా ఉండినయెడల ఏదో వర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడనెను. అంతలో వాడు పరుగుమీద వచ్చుచుండగా

25. The sentry called down and told the king. The king said, 'If he's alone, it must be good news!' As the runner came closer,

26. కావలికాడు పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చు మరియొకని కనుగొని అదిగో మరియొకడు ఒంటరి గానే పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చుచున్నాడని ద్వారపుతట్టు తిరిగి చెప్పగా రాజువాడును వర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడనెను.

26. the sentry saw another runner and called down to the gate, 'Another runner all by himself.' And the king said, 'This also must be good news.'

27. కావలికాడు మొదటివాడు పరుగెత్తుట చూడగావాడు సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహిమయస్సు అని నాకు తోచుచున్నది అనినప్పుడు రాజువాడు మంచివాడు, శుభవర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పెను. అంతలొ

27. Then the sentry said, 'I can see the first man now; he runs like Ahimaaz son of Zadok.' 'He's a good man,' said the king. 'He's bringing good news for sure.'

28. అహిమయస్సు జయమని బిగ్గరగా రాజుతో చెప్పి రాజు ముందర సాష్టాంగ నమస్కారము చేసినా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నిన్ను చంప చూచిన వారిని అప్పగించిన నీ దేవుడైన యెహోవాకు స్తోత్రము అని చెప్పెను.

28. Then Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, 'Peace!' Then he bowed deeply before the king, his face to the ground. 'Blessed be your GOD; he has handed over the men who rebelled against my master the king.'

29. రాజుబాలుడగు అబ్షాలోము క్షేమముగా ఉన్నాడా? అని యడుగగా అహిమయస్సుయోవాబు రాజసేవకుడ నైన నీ దాసుడనగు నన్ను పంపినప్పుడు గొప్ప అల్లరి జరుగుట నేను చూచితిని గాని అది ఏమైనది నాకు తెలిసినది కాదని చెప్పెను.

29. The king asked, 'But is the young man Absalom all right?' Ahimaaz said, 'I saw a huge ruckus just as Joab was sending me off, but I don't know what it was about.'

30. అప్పుడు రాజునీవు ప్రక్కకు తొలగి నిలిచియుండు మని వానికాజ్ఞనియ్యగా వాడు తొలగి నిలిచెను.

30. The king said, 'Step aside and stand over there.' So he stepped aside.

31. అంతలో కూషీ వచ్చినా యేలిన వాడా రాజా, నేను నీకు శుభసమాచారము తెచ్చితిని; యీ దినమున యెహోవా నీ మీదికి వచ్చినవారినందరిని ఓడించి నీకు న్యాయము తీర్చెనని చెప్పినప్పుడు

31. Then the Cushite arrived and said, 'Good news, my master and king! GOD has given victory today over all those who rebelled against you!'

32. రాజుబాలుడగు అబ్షాలోము క్షేమముగా ఉన్నాడా? అని యడిగెను. అందుకు కూషీ చెప్పినదేమనగానా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నీ శత్రువులును నీకు హాని చేయవలెనని నీ మీదికి వచ్చినవారందరును ఆ బాలుడున్నట్టుగానే యుందురు గాక.

32. 'But,' said the king, 'is the young man Absalom all right?' And the Cushite replied, 'Would that all of the enemies of my master the king and all who maliciously rose against you end up like that young man.'

33. అప్పుడు రాజు బహు కలతపడి గుమ్మ మునకు పైగా నున్న గదికి ఎక్కి పోయి యేడ్చుచు, సంచరించుచునా కుమారుడా అబ్షా లోమా, నా కుమా రుడా అబ్షాలోమా, అని కేకలు వేయుచు, అయ్యో నా కుమారుడా, నీకు బదులుగా నేను చనిపోయినయెడల ఎంత బాగుండును; నా కుమారుడా అబ్షాలోమా నా కుమారుడా, అని యేడ్చుచు వచ్చెను.

33. The king was stunned. Heartbroken, he went up to the room over the gate and wept. As he wept he cried out, O my son Absalom, my dear, dear son Absalom! Why not me rather than you, my death and not yours, O Absalom, my dear, dear son!
