1. తనయొద్ద గుఱ్ఱములను రథములను సమకూర్చుకొనిన ముప్పది ఇద్దరు రాజులుండగా సిరియారాజైన బెన్హదదు తన సైన్యమంతటిని సమకూర్చుకొని బయలుదేరి షోమ్రోనుకు ముట్టడి వేసి దానిమీద యుద్ధము చేసెను.

1. Now Ben-Hadad the king of Aram rallied his whole army; with him were thirty-two kings, besides horses and chariots. Then he marched on Shomron and laid siege to it.

2. He sent messengers inside the city to Ach'av king of Isra'el

3. to say to him, 'Here is the message from Ben-Hadad: 'Your silver and gold are mine, also your wives and your best children are mine.''

4. అందుకు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజునా యేలినవాడవైన రాజా, నీవిచ్చిన సెలవుప్రకారము నేనును నాకు కలిగిన సమస్తమును నీ వశమున నున్నామనిప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చి వారిని పంపగా

4. The king of Isra'el answered, 'Just as you say, my lord, king; I am yours, along with everything I own.'

5. ఆ దూతలు పోయి ఆ మాట తెలియజేసి తిరిగి వచ్చిబెన్హదదు ఇట్లు సెల విచ్చుచున్నాడని తెలియజెప్పిరినీవు నీ వెండిని నీ బంగారమును నీ భార్యలను నీ పిల్లలను నాకు అప్పగింప వలెనని నేను నీయొద్దకు నా సేవకులను పంపియున్నాను.

5. The messengers returned and said, 'Here is Ben-Hadad's response: 'I sent you a message to hand over your silver, gold, wives and children to me.

6. రేపు ఈ వేళకు వారు నీ యింటిని నీ సేవకుల యిండ్లను పరిశోధిం చుదురు; అప్పుడు నీ కంటికి ఏది యింపుగా నుండునో దానిని వారు చేతపట్టుకొని తీసికొని పోవుదురు.

6. But I am going to send my servants to you tomorrow around this time; they will ransack your house and the houses of your servants; and whatever they see that they like they will seize and remove.''

7. కాగా ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు దేశపు పెద్దలనందరిని పిలువ నంపించిబెన్హదదునీ భార్యలను పిల్లలను వెండి బంగారములను పట్టుకొందునని వర్తమానము పంపగా నేను ఇయ్యనని చెప్పలేదు; ఆ మనుష్యుడు చేయ గోరుచున్న మోసము ఎట్టిదో అది మీరు తెలిసికొనుడనెను.

7. Then the king of Isra'el summoned all the leaders of the land and said, 'Please take notice! Do you see how this man is trying to make trouble? First he demanded my wives, children, silver and gold; and I denied him nothing.'

8. నీవతని మాట వినవద్దు, దానికి ఒప్పుకొనవద్దు అని ఆ పెద్దలును జనులందరును అతనితో చెప్పిరి,

8. All the leaders and all the people said to him, 'Don't listen, and don't agree.'

9. గనుక అతడుమీరు రాజైన నా యేలిన వానితో తెలియజెప్పవలసినదేమనగానీవు మొదట నీ సేవకుడనైన నాకు ఇచ్చిపంపిన ఆజ్ఞను నేను తప్పక అనుసరింతును గాని, నీవిప్పుడు సెలవిచ్చిన దానిని నేను చేయలేనని బెన్హదదు దూతలతో చెప్పుడనెను. ఆ దూతలు పోయి బెన్హదదునొద్దకు వచ్చి ఆ ప్రత్యుత్తరము తెలియజేయగా

9. So he said to Ben-Hadad's messengers, 'Tell my lord the king, 'I will do all that you asked of me the first time, but this I cannot do.' The messengers left and brought word back to him.

10. బెన్హదదు మరల అతని యొద్దకు దూతలను పంపినాతోకూడ వచ్చిన వారందరును పిడికెడు ఎత్తికొని పోవుటకు షోమ్రోను యొక్క ధూళి చాలినయెడల దేవతలు నాకు గొప్ప అపాయము కలుగజేయుదురు గాక అని వర్తమానము చేసెను.

10. Ben-Hadad then sent this message to him: 'May the gods do terrible things to me and worse ones as well if there's enough dust in Shomron to give each of my followers a handful!'

11. అందుకు ఇశ్రాయేలురాజుతన ఆయుధమును నడుమున బిగించుకొనువాడు దానివిప్పి తీసి వేసినవానివలె అతిశయపడకూడదని చెప్పుడనెను.

11. The king of Isra'el answered, 'Tell him: 'He who is putting on his armor shouldn't boast as if he were taking it off!''

12. బన్హదదును ఆ రాజులును గుడారములయందు విందు జరి గించుకొనుచుండగా, ఈ ప్రత్యుత్తరము వారికి వచ్చెను గనుక అతడు తన సేవకులను పిలిపించి యుద్ధమునకు సిద్ధ పడుడని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను. వారు సన్నద్ధులై పట్టణము ఎదుట నిలువగా

12. It happened that Ben-Hadad received this message when he was drinking, he and his kings, in the field-barracks. He ordered his servants: 'Take up your battle positions!' So they got ready to attack the city.

13. ప్రవక్తయైన యొకడు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజైన అహాబునొద్దకు వచ్చి అతనితో ఇట్లనెనుయెహోవా సెలవిచ్చునదేమనగాఈ గొప్ప దండంతయు నీవు చూచితివే; నేను యెహోవానని నీవు గ్రహించునట్లు నేడు దానిని నీచేతి కప్పగించెదను.

13. At that moment a prophet approached Ach'av king of Isra'el and said, 'Here is what ADONAI says: 'Have you seen this vast army? I am going to give you victory over them today. Then you will know that I am ADONAI!''

14. ఇది యెవరిచేత జరుగునని అహాబు అడుగగా అతడురాజ్యాధిపతులలో ఉన్న ¸యౌవనులచేత జరుగునని యెహోవా సెల విచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పెను. యుద్ధమును ఎవరు ఆరంభము చేయవలెనని రాజు అడుగగా అతడునీవే అని ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

14. Ach'av asked, 'Who will defeat them?' He answered, 'This is what ADONAI says: 'The young men who serve the district governors.'' He asked, 'Who will start the fighting?' and he answered, 'You will.'

15. వెంటనే అతడు రాజ్యాధిపతులలో ఉన్న వారి లెక్కచూడగా వారు రెండువందల ముప్పది ఇద్దరైరి. తరువాత జనులను, అనగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారినందరిని లెక్కింపగా వారు ఏడువేల మందియైరి.

15. He counted the district governors' young men; there were 232. After that, he counted all the people, all the people of Isra'el; there were 7,000.

16. మధ్యాహ్నమందు వీరు బయలుదేరగా బెన్హదదును అతనికి సహకారులైన ఆ ముప్పది ఇద్దరు రాజులును గుడారములలో త్రాగి మత్తులై యుండిరి.

16. They set out at noon. Ben-Hadad was drinking himself senseless in the field-barracks, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who were his allies.

17. రాజ్యాధిపతులలోనున్న ఆ ¸యౌవనులు ముందుగా బయలు దేరినప్పుడు సంగతి తెలిసికొనుటకై బెన్హదదు కొందరిని పంపెను. షోమ్రోనులోనుండి కొందరు వచ్చియున్నారని బంటులు తెలియజేయగా

17. The district governors' men went out first. Ben-Hadad sent for information, and they reported, 'Men have come out from Shomron.'

18. అతడువారు సమాధానముగా వచ్చినను యుద్ధము చేయ వచ్చినను వారిని సజీవులుగా పట్టుకొనిరండని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను.

18. He said, 'Whether they have come out for peace or for war, take them alive.'

19. రాజ్యాధిపతులలోనున్న ఆ ¸యౌవనులును వారితో కూడనున్న దండువారును పట్టణములోనుండి బయలుదేరి

19. So the district governors' men left the city, followed by the army;

20. ప్రతివాడు తన్ను ఎదిరించిన వానిని చంపగా సిరియనులు పారిపోయిరి. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు వారిని తరుము చుండగా సిరియా రాజైన బెన్హదదు గుఱ్ఱమెక్కి రౌతులతో గూడ తప్పించుకొని పోయెను.

20. and each one killed his man. Aram fled, and Isra'el pursued them. Ben-Hadad king of Aram escaped on horseback with some of the cavalry.

21. అంతట ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు బయలుదేరి గుఱ్ఱములను రథములను ఓడించి సిరియనులను బహుగా హతము చేసెను.

21. The king of Isra'el went out and attacked the horses and chariots, inflicting a massive defeat on Aram.

22. అప్పుడు ఆ ప్రవక్త ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చినీవు బలము తెచ్చుకొనుము, నీవు చేయవలసిన దానిని కనిపెట్టి యుండుము, ఏడాదినాటికి సిరియారాజు నీమీదికి మరల వచ్చునని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

22. Afterwards, the prophet approached the king of Isra'el and said to him, 'Go, regroup your forces, and think carefully what to do, for next year at this time the king of Aram will renew his attack.'

23. అయితే సిరియా రాజు సేవకులు అతనితో ఈలాగు మనవి చేసిరివారి దేవతలు కొండదేవతలు గనుక వారు మనకంటె బలవంతులైరి. అయితే మనము మైదానమందు వారితో యుద్ధము చేసిన యెడల నిశ్చయముగా వారిని గెలుచుదుము.

23. Meanwhile, the servants of the king of Aram said to him, 'Their God is a God of the hills; that's why they were stronger than we were. But if we fight them on level ground, we will certainly be stronger than they are.

24. ఇందుకు మీరు చేయవలసిన దేమనగా, ఆ రాజులలో ఒక్కొకని వాని వాని ఆధిపత్యములోనుండి తీసివేసి వారికి బదులుగా సేనాధిపతులను నిర్ణయించి

24. Also do this: remove all the kings from their commands, and put professional officers in their place.

25. నీవు పోగొట్టుకొనిన బలము ఎంతో అంత బలమును, గుఱ్ఱములకు గుఱ్ఱములను రథములకు రథములను లెక్కించి పోగు చేయుము; అప్పుడు మనము మైదానమునందు వారితో యుద్ధము చేసినయెడల అవశ్యముగా మనము వారిని గెలు చుదమని మనవి చేయగా అతడు వారు చెప్పిన మాట విని ఆ ప్రకారము చేసెను.

25. Then recruit an army as big as the army you lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot. We will attack them on level ground, and we will certainly be stronger than they.' He heeded what they said and acted accordingly.

26. కాబట్టి మరుసంవత్సరము బెన్హదదు సిరియనులను సమకూర్చి లెక్కచూచి బయలుదేరి పోయి ఇశ్రాయేలువారితో యుద్ధము చేయుటకై ఆఫెకునకు వచ్చెను.

26. At the same time the following year, Ben-Hadad mustered the army of Aram and went up to Afek to attack Isra'el.

27. ఇశ్రాయేలు వారందరును పోగు చేయబడి సిద్ధమై వారిని ఎదిరింప బయలుదేరిరి. ఇశ్రా యేలువారు మేకపిల్లల మందలు రెంటివలె వారియెదుట దిగియుండిరి గాని దేశము సిరియనులచేత కప్పబడి యుండెను.

27. The army of Isra'el, already mobilized and supplied, went to meet them; but the army of Isra'el, encamped opposite them, looked like two herds of goats; while Aram filled the land.

28. అప్పుడు దైవజనుడైన యొకడు వచ్చి ఇశ్రా యేలు రాజుతో ఇట్లనెనుయెహోవా సెలవిచ్చున దేమనగాసిరియనులు యెహోవాకొండలకు దేవుడేగాని లోయలకు దేవుడు కాడని అనుకొందురు; అయితే నేను యెహోవానై యున్నానని మీరు తెలిసికొనునట్లు ఈ గొప్ప సమూహమంతయు నీ చేతికి అప్పగించెదను.

28. At this point, a man of God approached and said to the king of Isra'el, 'Here is what ADONAI says: 'Because Aram said that ADONAI is a God of the hills but not a God of the valleys, I will hand over to you this entire huge army. Then you will know that I am ADONAI.''

29. వారు ఎదురుముఖములుగా ఏడుదినములు గుడారములు వేసికొని యుండిన తరువాత ఏడవ దినమందు యుద్ధమునకు కలిసికొనగా ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఒక దినమందే సిరియనుల కాల్బలము లక్షమందిని హతము చేసిరి.

29. They remained in camp opposite each other for seven days. On the seventh day, the battle began; and the people of Isra'el killed 100,000 soldiers of Aram in a single day.

30. తక్కినవారు ఆఫెకు పట్టణములోనికి పారిపోగా అచ్చటనున్న యొకప్రాకారము శేషించినవారిలో ఇరువది యేడు వేలమంది మీద పడెను. బెన్హదదు పారిపోయి ఆ పట్టణమందు ప్రవేశించి ఆ యాగదులలో చొరగా

30. The rest fled to Afek, into the city; and the wall fell on 27,000 of the men who were left. Ben-Hadad fled into the city and took refuge in an inside room.

31. అతని సేవకులుఇశ్రాయేలు వారి రాజులు దయాపరులని మేమువింటిమి గనుక నీకు అనుకూలమైనయెడల మేము నడుమునకు గోనెలు కట్టుకొని తలమీద త్రాళ్లు వేసికొని ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజునొద్దకు పోవుదుము; అతడు నీ ప్రాణమును రక్షించు నేమో అని రాజుతో అనగా రాజు అందుకు సమ్మతించెను.

31. His servants said to him, 'Here now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Isra'el are merciful kings. If it's all right with you, let's put sackcloth around our waists and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Isra'el. Maybe he will spare your life.'

32. కావున వారు తమ నడుములకు గోనెలు కట్టుకొని తలమీద త్రాళ్లు వేసి కొని ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చినీ దాసుడైన బెన్హదదుదయచేసి నన్ను బ్రదుకనిమ్మని మనవి చేయుటకై మమ్మును పంపెనని చెప్పగా అతడుబెన్హదదు నా సహోదరుడు, అతడు ఇంకను సజీవుడై యున్నాడా అని యడిగెను.

32. So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads, went to the king of Isra'el and said, 'Your servant Ben-Hadad says, 'Please spare my life.'' And he answered, 'He's still alive? He is my brother.'

33. అప్పుడు ఆ మనుష్యులు సంగతి గ్రహించి అతని మనస్సు ఏలాగున నున్నదో అది నిశ్చయముగా గుర్తెరిగి ఆ మాటనుబట్టిబెన్హదదు నీకు సహోదరుడే అని చెప్పగా అతడుమీరు వెళ్లి అతనిని తోడుకొని రండనెను. బెన్హదదు తనయొద్దకు రాగా అతడు తన రథముమీద అతని ఎక్కించుకొనెను.

33. The men took this as a promising indication and seized on it to say, 'Yes, Ben-Hadad is your brother.' Then Ach'av said, 'Go, and bring him here.' Ben-Hadad went out to him, and Ach'av had him climb up into his chariot.

34. అంతట బెన్హదదుతమ తండ్రి చేతిలోనుండి నా తండ్రి తీసికొనిన పట్టణములను నేను మరల అప్పగించెదను; మరియు నా తండ్రి షోమ్రోనులో వీధులను కట్టించుకొనినట్లు దమస్కులో తమకొరకు తమరు వీధులను కట్టించు కొనవచ్చును అని అతనితో చెప్పగా అహాబు ఈ ప్రకారముగా నీతో సంధిచేసి నిన్ను పంపివేయుదునని చెప్పి అతనితో సంధిచేసి అతని పోనిచ్చెను.

34. Ben-Hadad said to him, 'I will return the cities my father took from your father. Also you can set up markets for trade in Dammesek, as my father did in Shomron.' 'If you put this covenant in writing,' said Ach'av, 'I will set you free.' So he made a covenant with him and set him free.

35. అంతట ప్రవక్తల శిష్యులలో ఒకడు యెహోవా ఆజ్ఞచేత తన చెలికానితోనన్ను కొట్టుమనగా అతడు అతని కొట్టుటకు ఒప్పకపోయినప్పుడు

35. One of the members of the prophets' guild said to another one, by the word of ADONAI, 'Hit me!' But the man refused to hit him.

36. అతడునీవు యెహోవా ఆజ్ఞకు లోబడకపోతివి గనుక నీవు నన్ను విడిచిపోగానే సింహము నిన్ను చంపునని అతనితో చెప్పెను. అతడు వెళ్లిపోగానే సింహమొకటి అతనికి ఎదురై అతనిని చంపెను.

36. Then he said to him, 'Because you didn't listen to the voice of ADONAI, the moment you leave me, a lion will kill you.' No sooner had he left him than a lion found him and killed him.

37. తరువాత మరియొకడు అతనికి కనబడినప్పుడు అతడునన్ను కొట్టుమనగా అతడు అతని కొట్టి గాయ పరచెను.

37. The prophet went to another man and said, 'Hit me!' The man struck him a blow and wounded him.

38. అప్పుడు ఆ ప్రవక్త పోయి, కండ్లమీద పాగా కట్టుకొని మారు వేషము వేసికొని, మార్గమందు రాజు యొక్క రాకకై కనిపెట్టుకొని యుండి

38. The prophet left and waited for the king by the road, disguising himself with a bandage over his eyes.

39. రాజు వచ్చుట చూచి బిగ్గరగా రాజుతో ఈలాగు మనవి చేసికొనెనునీ దాసుడనైన నేను యుద్ధములోనికి పోయియుండగా ఇదిగో ఒకడు ఇటు తిరిగి ఒక మనుష్యుని నాయొద్దకు తోడుకొని వచ్చి యీ మనుష్యుని కనిపెట్టుము; ఏ విధము గానైనను వాడు తప్పించుకొని పోయినయెడల వాని ప్రాణమునకు మారుగా నీ ప్రాణముపోవును; లేదా నీవు రెండు మణుగుల వెండిని ఇయ్యవలెననెను.

39. As the king passed by, he called out to the king and said, 'Your servant was on his way into the thick of the fighting when someone turned, brought a man to me and said, 'Guard this man! If he is missing, you will pay for his life with yours; or else you will pay sixty-six pounds of silver.'

40. అయితే నీ దాసుడనైన నేను పనిమీద అక్కడక్కడ తిరుగుచుండగా వాడు కనబడకపోయెను. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రా యేలురాజునీకు నీవే తీర్పు తీర్బుకొంటివి గనుక నీవుచెప్పినట్టుగానే నీకు జరుగును అని అతనికి సెలవియ్యగా

40. But while your servant was busy with one thing and another, he disappeared.' The king of Isra'el said to him, 'So that is your sentence; you have pronounced it on yourself.'

41. అతడు త్వరపడి తన కండ్లమీది పాగా తీసివేయగా చూచి అతడు ప్రవక్తలలో ఒకడని రాజు పోల్చెను.

41. Quickly he removed the bandage from his eyes, and the king of Isra'el recognized him as one of the prophets.

42. అప్పుడు అతడుయెహోవా సెలవిచ్చునదేమనగానేను శపించిన మనుష్యుని నీవు నీ చేతిలోనుండి తప్పించుకొని పోనిచ్చితివి గనుక వాని ప్రాణమునకు మారుగా నీ ప్రాణమును, వాని జనులకు మారుగా నీ జనులును అప్పగింప బడుదురని రాజుతో అనగా

42. Then he said to the king, 'Here is what ADONAI says: 'Because you have let escape the man I had given over to be destroyed, you will pay with your life for his life and with your people for his people.''

43. ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు మూతి ముడుచు కొనిన వాడై కోపముతో షోమ్రోనులోని తన నగరునకు వచ్చెను.

43. The king of Isra'el returned home to Shomron resentful and depressed.
