1. రెహబామునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుటకై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును షెకెమునకు వెళ్లగా రెహబాముషెకెమునకు పోయెను.

1. And Rehoboam went to Sichem: for to Sichem were all Israel come to make him king.

2. రాజైన సొలొమోను సమక్షము నుండి పారిపోయి ఐగుప్తులో వాసము చేయుచున్న నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాము అది విని ఐగుప్తునుండి తిరిగిరాగా జనులు అతని పిలిపించిరి.

2. And when Jeroboam the son of Nabat, being in Egypt heard it (for he was fled for fear of Salomon the king) he returned out of Egypt.

3. యరొబామును ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును కూడి వచ్చి నీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను;

3. And they sent and called him. And so Jeroboam and all Israel came and communed with Rehoboam and said:

4. నీ తండ్రి నియమించిన కఠిన దాస్యమును అతడు మామీద ఉంచిన బరువైన కాడిని నీవు ఇప్పుడు చులుకన చేసినయెడల మేము నిన్ను సేవింతు మని రెహబాముతో మనవిచేయగా

4. Thy father made us a grievous yoke: but remit thou somewhat of the grievous service of thy father and of his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5. అతడుమీరు మూడు దినములు తాళి మరల నాయొద్దకు రండని చెప్పెను గనుక జనులు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

5. And he said to them: come again after three days to me. And the people departed.

6. అప్పుడు రాజైన రెహ బాము తన తండ్రియైన సొలొమోను సజీవియై యుండగా అతని సమక్షమున నిలిచిన పెద్దలను పిలిపించి - యీ జనులకు నేనేమి ప్రత్యుత్తర మియ్యవలెను? మీరు చెప్పు ఆలోచన ఏది అని అడుగగా

6. And king Rehoboam counselled with elders that stood before Salomon his father, while he lived, and said: what counsel give ye me, to answer this people again?

7. వారునీవు ఈ జనులయెడల దయా దాక్షిణ్యములు చూపి వారితో మంచి మాటలాడినయెడల వారు ఎప్పటికిని నీకు దాసులగుదురని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

7. And they told him saying: if thou shalt be kind to this people and please them and shalt speak loving words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

8. అయితే అతడు పెద్దలు తనకు చెప్పిన ఆలోచన త్రోసి వేసి, తనతోకూడ పెరిగి తన యెదుటనున్న ¸యౌవనస్థులతో ఆలోచనచేసి

8. But he left the counsel which the elders gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were nursed up with him and had stand in his presence,

9. నీ తండ్రి మామీద ఉంచిన కాడిని చులుకన చేయుమని నన్నడిగిన యీ జనులకు ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమి ఇయ్యవలెనని మీరు యోచింతురో చెప్పుడని వారినడుగగా

9. and said to them: what advice give ye that I may answer this people which have communed with me saying: Abate somewhat of the yoke which thy father did put upon us.

10. అతనితో కూడ పెరిగిన యీ ¸యౌవనస్థులు అతనితో ఇట్లనిరినీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నీవు దానిని చులుకన చేయుమని నీతో పలికిన యీ జనులతో నీవు చెప్పవలసినదేమనగానా చిటికెన వ్రేలు నా తండ్రియొక్క నడుముకంటె బరువుగా ఉండును;

10. And the young men that were nursed up with him talked with him saying: thus answer the people that spake to thee saying: Thy father made our yoke heavy: But make thou our yoke somewhat lighter. Thus wise answer them: my little finger shall be heavier than thy father's loins.

11. నా తండ్రి బరువైన కాడి మీమీద మోపెను గాని నేను మీ కాడిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను గాని నేను కొరడాలతో మిమ్మును దండించెదనని చెప్పుము.

11. For where my father put a heavy yoke upon you I will put more thereto, and where my father chastised you with whips I will chastise you with scorpions.

12. మూడవ దినమందు నాయొద్దకు తిరిగి రండని రాజు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము యరొబామును జనులందరును మూడవ దినమందు రెహబామునొద్దకు రాగా

12. And when Jeroboam and all Israel were come the third day, as the king bade saying: come again to me the third day.

13. రాజైన రెహబాము పెద్దల ఆలోచనను త్రోసివేసి, ¸యౌవనస్థులు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము వారితో మాటలాడి

13. The king answered them cruelly, for king Rehoboam left the counsel of the aged men,

14. వారికి కఠినమైన ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను; ఎట్లనగానా తండ్రి మీ కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నేను దానిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను, నేను మిమ్మును కొరడా లతో దండించెదనని చెప్పెను.

14. and answered them after the advice of the young men saying: If my father made your yoke grievous, I will add thereto, and where my father chastised you with whips, I will chastise you with scorpions.

15. యెహోవా షిలోనీయుడైన అహీయాద్వారా నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాముతో సెలవిచ్చిన తన మాటను స్థిరపరచునట్లు దేవుని నిర్ణయ ప్రకారము జనులు చేసిన మనవి రాజు ఆలకించక పోయెను.

15. And so the king hearkened not unto the people, for the turning away was of God, that the LORD might make good his saying which he spake by the hand of Ahiah the Silonite to Jeroboam the son of Nabat.

16. రాజు తాము చేసిన మనవి అంగీకరింపక పోవుట చూచి జనులుదావీదులో మాకు భాగము ఏది? యెష్షయి కుమారునియందు మాకు స్వాస్థ్యము లేదు;ఇశ్రా యేలువారలారా, మీ గుడారమునకు పోవుడి; దావీదూ, నీ సంతతివారిని నీవే చూచుకొనుమని రాజునకు ప్రత్యు త్తరమిచ్చి ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును ఎవరి గుడారమునకు వారు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

16. And when all Israel saw that the king would not hear them, the people answered the king saying: what part have we with David or inheritance with the son of Isai? let every man of Israel go to his tent. And now David see to thine own house. And thereupon all Israel gat them to their tents,

17. అయితే యూదాపట్టణములలో కాపురముండు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద రెహబాము ఏలుబడి చేసెను.

17. so that Rehoboam reigned over no more of the children of Israel than dwelt in the cities of Juda.

18. రాజైన రెహబాము వెట్టిపనివారిమీద అధికారి యైన హదోరమును పంపగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు రాళ్లతో అతని చావ గొట్టిరి గనుక రాజైన రెహబాము యెరూష లేమునకు పారిపోవలెనని త్వరపడి తన రథము ఎక్కెను.

18. Then king Rehoboam sent to them Haburam that was over the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed and gat him up in his chariot to fly to Jerusalem.

19. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఇప్పటికిని దావీదు సంతతివారిమీద తిరుగుబాటు చేసి నేటివరకును వారికి లోబడకయున్నారు.

19. And so Israel departed from the house of David unto this day.
