1. రెహబామునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుటకై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును షెకెమునకు వెళ్లగా రెహబాముషెకెమునకు పోయెను.

1. And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel went to Shechem to make him king.

2. రాజైన సొలొమోను సమక్షము నుండి పారిపోయి ఐగుప్తులో వాసము చేయుచున్న నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాము అది విని ఐగుప్తునుండి తిరిగిరాగా జనులు అతని పిలిపించిరి.

2. And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard [it], (now he was in Egypt, for he had fled there from the face of King Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

3. యరొబామును ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును కూడి వచ్చి నీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను;

3. And they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation came to Rehoboam, saying,

4. నీ తండ్రి నియమించిన కఠిన దాస్యమును అతడు మామీద ఉంచిన బరువైన కాడిని నీవు ఇప్పుడు చులుకన చేసినయెడల మేము నిన్ను సేవింతు మని రెహబాముతో మనవిచేయగా

4. Your father made our yoke grievous. Now then, abate [somewhat] of your father's grievous rule, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you.

5. అతడుమీరు మూడు దినములు తాళి మరల నాయొద్దకు రండని చెప్పెను గనుక జనులు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

5. And he said to them, Go away for three days, and [then] come to me. So the people departed.

6. అప్పుడు రాజైన రెహ బాము తన తండ్రియైన సొలొమోను సజీవియై యుండగా అతని సమక్షమున నిలిచిన పెద్దలను పిలిపించి - యీ జనులకు నేనేమి ప్రత్యుత్తర మియ్యవలెను? మీరు చెప్పు ఆలోచన ఏది అని అడుగగా

6. And King Rehoboam assembled the elders that stood before his father Solomon in his lifetime, saying, How do you counsel [me] to return an answer to this people?

7. వారునీవు ఈ జనులయెడల దయా దాక్షిణ్యములు చూపి వారితో మంచి మాటలాడినయెడల వారు ఎప్పటికిని నీకు దాసులగుదురని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

7. And they spoke to him, saying, If you would this day befriend this people, and be kind to them, and speak to them good words, then will they be your servants forever.

8. అయితే అతడు పెద్దలు తనకు చెప్పిన ఆలోచన త్రోసి వేసి, తనతోకూడ పెరిగి తన యెదుటనున్న ¸యౌవనస్థులతో ఆలోచనచేసి

8. But he forsook the advice of the old men, who took counsel with him, and he took counsel with the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before him.

9. నీ తండ్రి మామీద ఉంచిన కాడిని చులుకన చేయుమని నన్నడిగిన యీ జనులకు ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమి ఇయ్యవలెనని మీరు యోచింతురో చెప్పుడని వారినడుగగా

9. And he said to them, What do you advise that I should answer this people, who spoke to me, saying, Ease [somewhat] of the yoke which your father laid upon us?

10. అతనితో కూడ పెరిగిన యీ ¸యౌవనస్థులు అతనితో ఇట్లనిరినీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నీవు దానిని చులుకన చేయుమని నీతో పలికిన యీ జనులతో నీవు చెప్పవలసినదేమనగానా చిటికెన వ్రేలు నా తండ్రియొక్క నడుముకంటె బరువుగా ఉండును;

10. And the young men that had been brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to the people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, therefore lighten [some of it] for us; thus shall you say: My little finger [shall be] thicker than my father's loins.

11. నా తండ్రి బరువైన కాడి మీమీద మోపెను గాని నేను మీ కాడిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను గాని నేను కొరడాలతో మిమ్మును దండించెదనని చెప్పుము.

11. And whereas my father chastised you with a heavy yoke, I will also add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, and I will chastise you with scorpions.

12. మూడవ దినమందు నాయొద్దకు తిరిగి రండని రాజు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము యరొబామును జనులందరును మూడవ దినమందు రెహబామునొద్దకు రాగా

12. And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day.

13. రాజైన రెహబాము పెద్దల ఆలోచనను త్రోసివేసి, ¸యౌవనస్థులు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము వారితో మాటలాడి

13. And the king answered harshly. And King Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

14. వారికి కఠినమైన ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను; ఎట్లనగానా తండ్రి మీ కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నేను దానిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను, నేను మిమ్మును కొరడా లతో దండించెదనని చెప్పెను.

14. and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15. యెహోవా షిలోనీయుడైన అహీయాద్వారా నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాముతో సెలవిచ్చిన తన మాటను స్థిరపరచునట్లు దేవుని నిర్ణయ ప్రకారము జనులు చేసిన మనవి రాజు ఆలకించక పోయెను.

15. And the king hearkened not to the people, for there was a change [of their minds] from God, saying, The Lord has confirmed His word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and [concerning] all Israel;

16. రాజు తాము చేసిన మనవి అంగీకరింపక పోవుట చూచి జనులుదావీదులో మాకు భాగము ఏది? యెష్షయి కుమారునియందు మాకు స్వాస్థ్యము లేదు;ఇశ్రా యేలువారలారా, మీ గుడారమునకు పోవుడి; దావీదూ, నీ సంతతివారిని నీవే చూచుకొనుమని రాజునకు ప్రత్యు త్తరమిచ్చి ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును ఎవరి గుడారమునకు వారు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

16. for the king did not hearken to them. And the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David, or [what] inheritance [have we] in the son of Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! See now to your own house, O David! So all Israel went to their tents.

17. అయితే యూదాపట్టణములలో కాపురముండు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద రెహబాము ఏలుబడి చేసెను.

17. But the men of Israel, even those who dwelt in the cities of Judah, [remained] and made Rehoboam king over them.

18. రాజైన రెహబాము వెట్టిపనివారిమీద అధికారి యైన హదోరమును పంపగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు రాళ్లతో అతని చావ గొట్టిరి గనుక రాజైన రెహబాము యెరూష లేమునకు పారిపోవలెనని త్వరపడి తన రథము ఎక్కెను.

18. And King Rehoboam sent Hadoram to them, who was over the tribute. And the children of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. And King Rehoboam hastened to mount [his] chariot, [and] to flee to Jerusalem.

19. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఇప్పటికిని దావీదు సంతతివారిమీద తిరుగుబాటు చేసి నేటివరకును వారికి లోబడకయున్నారు.

19. So Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day.
