1. నా కుమారుడా, నా మాటలను మనస్సున నుంచు కొనుము నా ఆజ్ఞలను నీ యొద్ద దాచిపెట్టుకొనుము.

1. MY SON, keep my words; lay up within you my commandments [for use when needed] and treasure them.

2. నా ఆజ్ఞలను నీవు మనస్సున నుంచుకొనినయెడల నీ కనుపాపవలె నా ఉపదేశమును కాపాడినయెడల నీవు బ్రదుకుదువు.

2. Keep my commandments and live, and keep my law and teaching as the apple (the pupil) of your eye.

3. నీ వ్రేళ్లకు వాటిని కట్టుకొనుము నీ హృదయమను పలకమీద వాటిని వ్రాసికొనుము

3. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

4. జ్ఞానముతోనీవు నాకు అక్కవనియు తెలివితోనీవు నాకు చెలికత్తెవనియు చెప్పుము.

4. Say to skillful and godly Wisdom, You are my sister, and regard understanding or insight as your intimate friend--

5. అవి నీవు జారస్త్రీయొద్దకు పోకుండను ఇచ్చకములాడు పరస్త్రీకి లోబడకుండను నిన్ను కాపాడును.

5. That they may keep you from the loose woman, from the adventuress who flatters with and makes smooth her words.

6. నా యింటి కిటికీలోనుండి నా అల్లిక కిటికీలోనుండి నేను పారజూడగా జ్ఞానములేనివారి మధ్యను

6. For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice.

7. ¸యౌవనుల మధ్యను బుద్ధిలేని పడుచువాడొకడు నాకు కనబడెను.

7. And among the simple (empty-headed and emptyhearted) ones, I perceived among the youths a young man void of good sense,

8. సందెవేళ ప్రొద్దు గ్రుంకినతరువాత చిమ్మచీకటిగల రాత్రివేళ

8. Sauntering through the street near the [loose woman's] corner; and he went the way to her house

9. వాడు జారస్త్రీ సందుదగ్గరనున్న వీధిలో తిరుగు చుండెను దాని యింటిమార్గమున నడుచుచుండెను.

9. In the twilight, in the evening; night black and dense was falling [over the young man's life].

10. అంతట వేశ్యావేషము వేసికొనిన కపటముగల స్త్రీ ఒకతె వానిని ఎదుర్కొన వచ్చెను.

10. And behold, there met him a woman, dressed as a harlot and sly and cunning of heart.

11. అది బొబ్బలు పెట్టునది, స్వేచ్ఛగా తిరుగునది, దాని పాదములు దాని యింట నిలువవు.

11. She is turbulent and willful; her feet stay not in her house;

12. ఒకప్పుడు ఇంటియెదుటను ఒకప్పుడు సంతవీధులలోను అది యుండును. ప్రతి సందుదగ్గరను అది పొంచియుండును.

12. Now in the streets, now in the marketplaces, she sets her ambush at every corner.

13. అది వానిని పట్టుకొని ముద్దుపెట్టుకొనెను సిగ్గుమాలిన ముఖము పెట్టుకొని యిట్లనెను

13. So she caught him and kissed him and with impudent face she said to him,

14. సమాధానబలులను నేను అర్పింపవలసియుంటిని నేడు నా మ్రొక్కుబళ్లు చెల్లించియున్నాను

14. Sacrifices of peace offerings were due from me; this day I paid my vows.

15. కాబట్టి నేను నిన్ను కలిసికొనవలెనని రాగా నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొనవలెనని బయలుదేరగా నీవేకనబడితివి

15. So I came forth to meet you [that you might share with me the feast from my offering]; diligently I sought your face, and I have found you.

16. నా మంచముమీద రత్నకంబళ్లను ఐగుప్తునుండి వచ్చు విచిత్రపుపనిగల నారదుప్పట్లను నేను పరచియున్నాను.

16. I have spread my couch with rugs and cushions of tapestry, with striped sheets of fine linen of Egypt.

17. నా పరుపుమీద బోళము అగరు కారపుచెక్క చల్లి యున్నాను.

17. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18. ఉదయము వరకు వలపుదీర తృప్తిపొందుదము రమ్ము పరస్పరమోహముచేత చాలా సంతుష్టి నొందుదము రమ్ము.

18. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us console and delight ourselves with love.

19. పురుషుడు ఇంట లేడు దూరప్రయాణము వెళ్లియున్నాడు

19. For the man is not at home; he is gone on a long journey;

20. అతడు సొమ్ముసంచి చేత పట్టుకొని పోయెను. పున్నమనాటివరకు ఇంటికి తిరిగి రాడు అనెను

20. He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the day appointed [at the full moon].

21. అది తన అధికమైన లాలనమాటలచేత వానిని లోపరచు కొనెను తాను పలికిన యిచ్చకపుమాటలచేత వాని నీడ్చుకొని పోయెను.

21. With much justifying and enticing argument she persuades him, with the allurements of her lips she leads him [to overcome his conscience and his fears] and forces him along.

22. వెంటనే పశువు వధకు పోవునట్లును పరులచే జిక్కినవాడు సంకెళ్లలోనికి పోవునట్లును

22. Suddenly he [yields and] follows her reluctantly like an ox moving to the slaughter, like one in fetters going to the correction [to be given] to a fool or like a dog enticed by food to the muzzle

23. తనకు ప్రాణహానికరమైనదని యెరుగక ఉరియొద్దకు పక్షి త్వరపడునట్లును వాని గుండెను అంబు చీల్చువరకు వాడు దానివెంట పోయెను.

23. Till a dart [of passion] pierces and inflames his vitals; then like a bird fluttering straight into the net [he hastens], not knowing that it will cost him his life.

24. నా కుమారులారా, చెవియొగ్గుడి నా నోటి మాటల నాలకింపుడి

24. Listen to me now therefore, O you sons, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.

25. జారస్త్రీ మార్గములతట్టు నీ మనస్సు తొలగనియ్యకుము దారి తప్పి అది నడచు త్రోవలలోనికి పోకుము.

25. Let not your heart incline toward her ways, do not stray into her paths.

26. అది గాయపరచి పడద్రోసినవారు అనేకులు అది చంపినవారు లెక్కలేనంతమంది

26. For she has cast down many wounded; indeed, all her slain are a mighty host. [Neh. 13:26.]

27. దాని యిల్లు పాతాళమునకుపోవు మార్గము ఆ మార్గము మరణశాలలకు దిగిపోవును.

27. Her house is the way to Sheol (Hades, the place of the dead), going down to the chambers of death.
