1. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు షిత్తీములో దిగియుండగా ప్రజలు మోయాబురాండ్రతో వ్యభిచారము చేయసాగిరి.

1. Yisra'el abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Mo'av:

4. The LORD said to Moshe, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to the LORD before the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Yisra'el.

5. కాబట్టి మోషే ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల న్యాయాధి పతులను పిలిపించి మీలో ప్రతివాడును బయల్పెయో రుతో కలిసికొనిన తన తన వశములోనివారిని చంపవలెనని చెప్పెను.

5. Moshe said to the judges of Yisra'el, Kill you everyone his men who have joined themselves to Ba`al-Pe`or.

6. ఇదిగో మోషే కన్నుల యెదుటను, ప్రత్య క్షపు గుడారము యొక్క ద్వారము నొద్ద ఏడ్చుచుండిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సర్వసమాజము యొక్క కన్నులయెదుటను, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు ఒక మిద్యాను స్త్రీని తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

6. Behold, one of the children of Yisra'el came and brought to his brothers a Midyanite woman in the sight of Moshe, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

7. యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు అది చూచి,

7. When Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon the Kohen, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand;

8. సమాజమునుండి లేచి, యీటెను చేత పట్టుకొని పడకచోటికి ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని వెంబడి వెళ్లి ఆ యిద్దరిని, అనగా ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని ఆ స్త్రీని కడుపులో గుండ దూసిపోవు నట్లు పొడిచెను; అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి తెగులు నిలిచి పోయెను.

8. and he went after the man of Yisra'el into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Yisra'el, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Yisra'el.

9. Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

10. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు,

10. The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying,

11. వారి మధ్యను నేను ఓర్వలేని దానిని తాను ఓర్వలేకపోవుట వలన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీదనుండి నా కోపము మళ్లించెను గనుక నేను ఓర్వలేకయుండియు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నశింపజేయలేదు.

11. Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon the Kohen, has turned my wrath away from the children of Yisra'el, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn't consume the children of Yisra'el in my jealousy.

12. కాబట్టి నీవు అతనితో ఇట్లనుము అతనితో నేను నా సమాధాన నిబంధనను చేయుచున్నాను.

12. Therefore say, Behold, I give to him my covenant of shalom:

13. and it shall be to him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Yisra'el.

14. Now the name of the man of Yisra'el that was slain, who was slain with the Midyanite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Shim`oni.

15. The name of the Midyanite woman who was slain was Kozbi, the daughter of Tzur; he was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midyan.

16. మరియు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెను మిద్యానీయులు తమ తంత్రములవలన మీకు బాధకులై యున్నారు; వారిని బాధపెట్టి హతము చేయుడి;

16. The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying,

17. Vex the Midyanim, and strike them;

18. for they vex you with their wiles, with which they have deceived you in the matter of Pe`or, and in the matter of Kozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midyan, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Pe`or.
