1. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు యెహోవా దృష్టికి దోషులైనందున యెహోవా యేడేండ్లు వారిని మిద్యానీయుల కప్ప గించెను.

1. And the sons of Israel did the thing that was wicked, in the sight of Yahweh, so Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years;

2. మిద్యానీయుల చెయ్యి ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీద హెచ్చాయెను గనుక వారు మిద్యానీయులయెదుట నిలువలేక కొండలోనున్న వాగులను గుహలను దుర్గములను తమకు సిద్ధపరచుకొనిరి.

2. and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel, because of Midian, did the sons of Israel prepare for themselves the hollows which were in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.

3. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు విత్తనములు విత్తిన తరువాత మిద్యా నీయులును అమాలేకీయులును తూర్పుననుండు వారును తమ పశువులను గుడారములను తీసికొని మిడతల దండంత విస్తారముగా వారిమీదికి వచ్చి

3. And so it used to be, if Israel had sown, then came up Midian and Amalek and the sons of the east, yea came up against them,

4. వారి యెదుట దిగి, గాజాకు పోవునంతదూరము భూమి పంటను పాడుచేసి, ఒక గొఱ్ఱెనుగాని యెద్దునుగాని గాడిదనుగాని జీవనసాధన మైన మరిదేనినిగాని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు ఉండనీయ లేదు.

4. and encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the land, until thou comest unto Gaza, neither left they sustenance in Israel, nor sheep nor ox, nor ass;

5. వారును వారి ఒంటెలును లెక్కలేకయుండెను.

5. for, they with their cattle, used to come up, with their tents yea they used to come like locusts, for multitude, both they and their cattle, were without number, so they came into the land, to lay it waste.

6. దేశమును పాడుచేయుటకు వారు దానిలోనికి వచ్చిరి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు మిద్యానీయులవలన మిక్కిలి హీనదశకు వచ్చినప్పుడు వారు యెహోవాకు మొఱ్ఱ పెట్టిరి.

6. Thus was Israel greatly impoverished, because of Midian, and the sons of Israel made outcry unto Yahweh.

7. మిద్యానీయులవలని బాధనుబట్టి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు యెహోవాకు మొఱ్ఱపెట్టగా

7. And it came to pass, when the sons of Israel cried unto Yahweh, on account of Midian,

8. యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీ యులయొద్దకు ప్రవక్తనొకని పంపెను. అతడు వారితో ఈలాగు ప్రకటించెనుఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దేవుడైన యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చినదేమనగానేను ఐగుప్తులోనుండి మిమ్మును రప్పించి, దాసుల గృహములోనుండి మిమ్మును తోడుకొని వచ్చితిని.

8. then sent Yahweh a prophet unto the sons of Israel, who said unto them Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, I, led you up out of Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of servants;

9. ఐగుప్తీయుల చేతిలో నుండియు మిమ్మును బాధించిన వారందరిచేతిలోనుండియు మిమ్మును విడిపించి, మీ యెదుటనుండి వారిని తోలివేసి వారి దేశమును మీకిచ్చితిని; మీ దేవుడనైన యెహోవాను నేనే.

9. Yea I rescued you out of the hand of Egypt, and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, that I might drive them out from before you, and I gave unto you their land;

10. మీరు అమోరీయుల దేశమున నివసించు చున్నారు, వారి దేవతలకు భయపడకుడి అని మీతో చెప్పితిని గాని మీరు నా మాట వినకపోతిరి.

10. Yea and I said to you, I, Yahweh, am your God, Ye must not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are about to dwell, But ye have not hearkened unto my voice.

11. యెహోవా దూత వచ్చి అబీయెజ్రీయుడైన యోవా షునకు కలిగిన ఒఫ్రాలోని మస్తకివృక్షము క్రింద కూర్చుండెను. యోవాషు కుమారుడైన గిద్యోను మిద్యానీయులకు మరుగైయుండునట్లు గానుగ చాటున గోధుమలను దుళ్లగొట్టుచుండగా

11. Then came the messenger of Yahweh, and sat down under the oak which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the Abiezrite; and, Gideon his son, was beating out wheat in the winepress, to escape the notice of the Midianites;

12. యెహోవా దూత అతనికి కనబడిపరాక్రమముగల బలాఢ్యుడా, యెహోవా నీకు తోడై యున్నాడని అతనితో అనగా

12. so the messenger of Yahweh appeared unto him, and said unto him, Yahweh, is with thee, thou mighty man of valour!

13. గిద్యోనుచిత్తము నా యేలినవాడా, యెహోవా మాకు తోడైయుండినయెడల ఇదంతయు మాకేల సంభవిం చెను? యెహోవా ఐగుప్తులో నుండి మమ్మును రప్పించెనని చెప్పుచు, మా పితరులు మాకు వివరించిన ఆయన అద్భుతకార్యములన్నియు ఏ మాయెను? యెహోవా మమ్మును విడిచిపెట్టి మిద్యానీయుల చేతికి మమ్మును అప్పగించెనని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

13. And Gideon said unto him Pardon, my lord! if Yahweh be with us, then wherefore hath all this befallen us? and where are all his wonders, which our fathers have recounted to us saying, Was it not, out of Egypt, that Yahweh brought us up? But, now, hath Yahweh abandoned us, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.

14. అంతట యెహోవా అతనితట్టు తిరిగిబలము తెచ్చుకొని వెళ్లి మిద్యానీయుల చేతిలోనుండి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను రక్షిం పుము, నిన్ను పంపినవాడను నేనే అని చెప్పగా

14. And Yahweh, turned unto him, and said Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel, out of the hand of Midian, have I not sent thee?

15. అతడు చిత్తము నా యేలిన వాడా, దేని సహాయముచేత నేను ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను రక్షింపగలను? నా కుటుంబము మనష్షే గోత్రములో ఎన్నికలేనిదే. నా పితరుల కుటుంబములో నేను కనిష్ఠుడనై యున్నానని ఆయనతో చెప్పెను. అందుకు యెహోవా అయిన నేమి?

15. And he said unto him Pardon, O my Lord! How, shall I save Israel? Lo! my thousand, is the poorest in Manasseh, and, I, am the youngest in the house of my father.

16. నేను నీకు తోడై యుందును గనుక ఒకే మనుష్యుని హతము చేసినట్లు మిద్యానీయులను నీవు హతముచేయుదువని సెలవిచ్చెను.

16. And Yahweh said unto him I will be with thee, so shalt thou smite the Midianites, as one man.

17. అందుకతడునాయెడల నీకు కటాక్షము కలిగినయెడల నాతో మాటలాడుచున్న వాడవు నీవే అని నేను తెలిసి కొనునట్లు ఒక సూచన కనుపరచుము.

17. And he said unto him, If, I beseech thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, then wilt thou work for me a sign, that it is, thou, who art speaking with me.

18. నేను నీయొద్దకు వచ్చి నా అర్పణమును బయటికి తెచ్చి నీ సన్నిధిని దానిని పెట్టువరకు ఇక్కడనుండి వెళ్లకుమీ అని వేడుకొనగా ఆయననీవు తిరిగి వచ్చువరకు నేను ఉండెదననెను.

18. Do not, I beseech thee, withdraw from hence, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said: I, will tarry until thou return.

19. అప్పుడు గిద్యోను లోపలికి పోయి ఒక మేక పిల్లను తూమెడు పిండితో పొంగని భక్ష్యములను సిద్ధపరచి ఆ మాంసమును గంపలో ఉంచి అది వండిన నీళ్లను కుండలో పోసి ఆయనకొరకు ఆ మస్తకివృక్షముక్రిందికి దానిని తీసికొనివచ్చి దగ్గర ఉంచగా

19. So, Gideon, went in, and made ready a kid of the goats, and, of an ephah of meal, unleavened cakes, the flesh, he put in a basket, and, the broth, he put in a pot, and brought them forth unto him, under the oak, and presented them.

20. దేవుని దూత ఆ మాంసమును పొంగని భక్ష్యములను పట్టుకొని రాతి మీద పెట్టినీళ్లు పోయుమని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

20. And the messenger of God said unto him Take the flesh and the cakes, and set them on this crag, and, the broth, do thou pour out. And he did so.

21. అతడాలాగు చేయగా యెహోవా దూత తన చేత నున్న కఱ్ఱను చాపి దాని కొనతో ఆ మాంసమును ఆ పొంగని భక్ష్యములను ముట్టినప్పుడు అగ్ని ఆ రాతిలోనుండి వెడలి ఆ మాంస మును పొంగని భక్ష్యములను కాల్చి వేసెను, అంతట యెహోవా దూత అతనికి అదృశ్య మాయెను.

21. Then the messenger of Yahweh put forth the end of the staff, that was in his hand, and touched the flesh, and the cakes, and there came up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh, and the cakes, and, the messenger of Yahweh, had departed out of his sight.

22. గిద్యోను ఆయన యెహోవా దూత అని తెలిసికొని అహహా నా యేలినవాడా, యెహోవా, ఇందుకే గదా నేను ముఖా ముఖిగా యెహోవా దూతను చూచితిననెను.

22. Then saw Gideon that, the messenger of Yahweh, it was, so Gideon said Alas, My Lord Yahweh! forasmuch as I have seen the messenger of Yahweh, face to face!

23. అప్పుడు యెహోవానీకు సమాధానము, భయపడకుము, నీవు చావవని అతనితో సెలవిచ్చెను.

23. And Yahweh said unto him Peace be unto thee! Do not fear, thou shalt not die.

24. అక్కడ గిద్యోను యెహోవా నామమున బలిపీఠము కట్టి, దానికి యెహోవా సమాధానకర్తయను పేరుపెట్టెను. నేటివరకు అది అబీ యెజ్రీయుల ఒఫ్రాలో ఉన్నది.

24. So Gideon built there an altar unto Yahweh, and called it, Yahweh-shalom. Unto this day, it remaineth, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25. మరియు ఆ రాత్రియందే యెహోవానీ తండ్రి కోడెను, అనగా ఏడేండ్ల రెండవ యెద్దును తీసికొని వచ్చి, నీ తండ్రికట్టిన బయలుయొక్క బలిపీఠమును పడగొట్టి, దానికి పైగానున్న దేవతాస్తంభమును నరికివేసి

25. And it came to pass, on that night, that Yahweh said unto him Take the young bullock that belongeth to thy father, even the second bullock of seven years, and throw thou down the altar of Baal, that belongeth to thy father, and, the sacred stem that is by it, shalt thou cut down.

26. తగిన యేర్పాటుతో ఈ బండ కొనను నీ దేవుడైన యెహో వాకు బలిపీఠము కట్టి, ఆ రెండవ కోడెను తీసికొనివచ్చి నీవు నరికిన ప్రతిమయొక్క కఱ్ఱతో దహనబలి నర్పించు మని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

26. Then shalt thou build an altar, unto Yahweh thy God, on the top of this fort, with the pile, and shalt take the second bullock, and cause it to go up as an ascending-sacrifice, with the wood of the sacred stem which thou shalt cut down.

27. కాబట్టి గిద్యోను తన పని వారిలో పదిమందిని తీసికొనివచ్చి యెహోవా తనతో చెప్పినట్లు చేసెను. అతడు తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకును ఆ ఊరివారికిని భయపడినందున పగలు దానిని చేయలేక రాత్రివేళ చేసెను.

27. So Gideon took ten men from among his servants, and did as Yahweh had spoken unto him, and so it was that, as he too much feared the house of his father, and the men of the city, to do it by day, he did it by night.

28. ఆ ఊరివారు వేకువనే లేచినప్పుడు బయలుయొక్క బలిపీఠము విరుగగొట్టబడియుండెను, దానికి పైగా నున్న దేవతాస్తంభమును పడద్రోయబడి యుండెను, కట్టబడిన ఆ బలిపీఠముమీద ఆ రెండవ యెద్దు అర్పింప బడి యుండెను.

28. And the men of the city rose up early in the morning, and lo! the altar of Baal, had been overthrown, and, the sacred stem that was by it, had been cut down, and the second bullock had been caused to ascend upon the altar that had been built.

29. అప్పుడు వారుఈ పని యెవరు చేసినదని ఒకరితోనొకరు చెప్పుకొనుచు విచారణచేసి వెదకి, యోవాషు కుమారుడైన గిద్యోను ఆ పనిచేసినట్టు తెలిసికొనిరి.

29. So they said, one to another, Who hath done this thing? And they inquired, and made search, and it was said, Gideon son of Joash, hath done this thing.

30. కాబట్టి ఆ ఊరివారునీ కుమారుడు బయలుయొక్క బలిపీఠమును పడగొట్టి దానికి పైగానున్న దేవతాస్తంభమును పడద్రోసెను గనుక అతడు చావవలెను, వానిని బయటికి తెమ్మని యోవాషుతో చెప్పగా

30. So the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring forth thy son, that he may die, because he hath overthrown the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the sacred stem that was by it.

31. యోవాషు తనకు ఎదురుగా నిలిచిన వారందరితోమీరు బయలు పక్షముగా వాదింతురా? మీరు వాని రక్షించు దురా? వానిపక్షముగా వాదించువాడు ఈ ప్రొద్దుననే చావవలెను; ఎవడో వాని బలిపీఠమును విరుగగొట్టెను గనుక, వాడు దేవతయైనందున తన పక్షమున తానేవాదించ వచ్చును.

31. And Joash said unto all who stood by him Will, ye, plead for Baal, or will, ye, save him? Whoso pleadeth for him, let him be put to death while it is yet morning, if, a god, he be let him plead for himself, because one hath overthrown his altar.

32. ఒకడు తన బలిపీఠమును విరుగ గొట్టినందున అతనితో బయలు వాదించుకొననిమ్మని చెప్పి ఆ దినమున అతనికి యెరుబ్బయలను పేరు పెట్టెను.

32. So he was called on that day, Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal, plead against him. Because he had overthrown his altar.

33. మిద్యానీయులందరును అమాలేకీయులందరును తూర్పు వారందరును కూడి వచ్చి నది దాటి యెజ్రెయేలు మైదా నములో దిగగా

33. Now, all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east, were gathered together, and they crossed over and pitched in the vale of Jezreel.

34. యెహోవా ఆత్మ గిద్యోనును ఆవే శించెను. అతడు బూర ఊదినప్పుడు అబీయెజెరు కుటుంబపువారు అతని యొద్దకు వచ్చిరి.

34. But, the spirit of Yahweh, clothed Gideon, so he blew with a horn, and Abiezer was gathered after him.

35. అతడు మనష్షీ యులందరియొద్దకు దూతలను పంపగా వారును కూడు కొని అతనియొద్దకు వచ్చిరి. అతడు ఆషేరు జెబూలూను నఫ్తాలి గోత్రములవారియొద్దకు దూతలను పంపగా వారును కూడినవారిని ఎదుర్కొనుటకు వచ్చిరి.

35. Messengers also, sent he throughout all Manasseh, and, they also, were gathered after him, messengers also, sent he throughout Asher, and throughout Zebulun, and throughout Naphtali, and they came up to meet them.

36. అప్పుడు గిద్యోను నీవు సెలవిచ్చినట్లు నాచేత ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను రక్షింప నుద్దేశించిన యెడల

36. And Gideon said unto God, If thou art about to bring salvation, by my hand, unto Israel, as thou hast spoken,

37. నేను కళ్లమున గొఱ్ఱెబొచ్చు ఉంచినతరువాత నేల అంతయు ఆరియుండగా ఆ గొఱ్ఱె బొచ్చుమీద మాత్రమే మంచుపడు నెడల నీవు సెల విచ్చినట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నా మూలముగా రక్షించెదవని నేను నిశ్చయించుకొందునని దేవునితో అనెను.

37. lo! I am placing a woollen fleece, on the threshing-floor, if, dew, be on the fleece alone and, on all the ground, it be dry, then shall I know that thou wilt bring salvation, by my hand, unto Israel, as thou hast spoken.

38. ఆలాగున జరిగెను; అతడు ప్రొద్దుట లేచి ఆ బొచ్చును పిడిచి నీళ్లతో పాత్ర నిండువరకు ఆ బొచ్చునుండి మంచును పిండెను.

38. And it was so, and he rose up early, on the morrow, and pressed together the fleece, and wrung out the dew from the fleece, a small bowl full of water.

39. అప్పుడు గిద్యోనునీ కోపము నా మీద మండనియ్యకుము; ఇంకొక మారే ఆ బొచ్చుచేత శోధింప సెలవిమ్ము. నేల అంతటిమీద మంచు పడి యుండగా ఆ బొచ్చు మాత్రమే పొడిగా ఉండనిమ్మని దేవునితో అనగా

39. Then said Gideon unto God, Let not thine anger kindle upon me, but let me speak, only this once, Let me, I pray thee, put to the proof, only this once, with the fleece, I pray thee, let it be dry on the fleece alone, while, on all the ground, there be dew.

40. ఆ రాత్రి దేవుడు ఆలాగున చేసెను; నేల అంతటి మీద మంచు పడినను ఆ బొచ్చుమాత్రమే పొడిగానుండెను.

40. And God did so on that night, and it was dry on the fleece alone, while, on all the ground, there was dew.
