1. సౌలు ముప్పది ఏండ్లవాడై యేలనా రంభించెను. అతడు రెండు సంవత్సరములు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఏలెను

1. Saul was [forty]] years old when he began to reign; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,

2. Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel, whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

3. యోనాతాను గెబాలోనున్న ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండును హతముచేయగా ఆ సంగతి ఫిలిష్తీయులకు వినబడెను; మరియు దేశమంతట హెబ్రీయులు వినవలెనని సౌలు బాకా ఊదించెను.

3. And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba: and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

4. సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండును హతముచేసి నందున ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయులకు హేయులైరని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు వినబడగా జనులు గిల్గా లులో సౌలు నొద్దకు కూడివచ్చిరి.

4. And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.

5. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులతో యుద్ధముచేయుటకై ముప్పదివేల రథములను ఆరువేల గుఱ్ఱపు రౌతులను సముద్రపుదరినుండు ఇసుకరేణువులంత విస్తారమైన జన సమూహమును సమకూర్చుకొని వచ్చిరి. వీరు బయలుదేరి బేతావెను తూర్పుదిక్కున మిక్మషులో దిగిరి.

5. And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven.

6. ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు దిగులుపడుచు వచ్చి తాము ఇరుకులో నున్నట్టు తెలిసికొని గుహలలోను పొదలలోను మెట్టలలోను ఉన్నత స్థలములలోను కూపములలోను దాగిరి.

6. When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits.

7. కొందరు హెబ్రీయులు యొర్దాను నది దాటి గాదుదేశ మునకును గిలాదునకును వెళ్లి పోయిరి గాని సౌలు ఇంకను గిల్గాలులోనే ఉండెను; జనులందరు భయపడుచు అతని వెంబడించిరి.

7. Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

8. సమూయేలు చెప్పినట్టు అతడు ఏడు దినములు ఆగి, సమూయేలు గిల్గాలునకు రాకపోవుటయు, జనులు తన యొద్దనుండి చెదరిపోవుటయు చూచి

8. And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel [had appointed]: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

9. దహన బలులను సమాధానబలులను నా యొద్దకు తీసికొని రమ్మని చెప్పి దహనబలి అర్పించెను.

9. And Saul said, Bring hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offered the burnt-offering.

10. అతడు దహనబలి అర్పించి చాలిం చిన వెంటనే సమూయేలు వచ్చెను. సౌలు అతనిని కలిసికొని అతనికి వందనము చేయుటకై బయలుదేరగా

10. And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

11. సమూ యేలు అతనితోనీవు చేసిన పని యేమని యడిగెను. అందుకు సౌలుజనులు నాయొద్దనుండి చెదరిపోవుటయు, నిర్ణయకాలమున నీవు రాకపోవుటయు, ఫిలిష్తీయులు మిక్మషులో కూడియుండుటయు నేను చూచి

11. And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash;

12. ఇంకను యెహోవాను శాంతిపరచకమునుపే ఫిలిష్తీయులు గిల్గాలునకు వచ్చి నామీద పడుదురనుకొని నా అంతట నేను సాహసించి దహనబలి అర్పించితిననెను.

12. therefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering.

13. అందుకు సమూ యేలు ఇట్లనెనునీ దేవుడైన యెహోవా నీ కిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞను గైకొనక నీవు అవివేకపు పని చేసితివి; నీ రాజ్యమునుఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీద సదాకాలము స్థిరపరచుటకు యెహోవా తలచి యుండెను; అయితే నీ రాజ్యము నిలు వదు.

13. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

14. యెహోవా తన చిత్తానుసారమైన మనస్సుగల యొకని కనుగొనియున్నాడు. నీకు ఆజ్ఞాపించినదాని నీవు గైకొనకపోతివి గనుక యెహోవా తన జనులమీద అతనిని అధిపతినిగా నియమించును.

14. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.

15. సమూయేలు లేచి గిల్గాలును విడిచి బెన్యామీనీయుల గిబియాకు వచ్చెను; సౌలు తనయొద్దనున్న జనులను లెక్క పెట్టగా వారు దాదాపు ఆరు వందలమంది యుండిరి.

15. And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.

16. సౌలును అతని కుమారుడైన యోనాతానును తమ దగ్గర నున్న వారితో కూడ బెన్యామీనీయుల గిబియాలో ఉండిరి; ఫిలిష్తీయులు మిక్మషులో దిగియుండిరి.

16. And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

17. మరియు ఫిలిష్తీ యుల పాళెములోనుండి దోపుడుగాండ్రు మూడుగుంపు లుగా బయలుదేరి ఒక గుంపు షూయాలు దేశమున, ఒఫ్రాకు పోవుమార్గమున సంచరించెను.

17. And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual;

18. రెండవ గుంపు బేత్‌ హోరోనుకు పోవుమార్గమున సంచరించెను. మూడవ గుంపు అరణ్య సమీపమందుండు జెబోయిములోయ సరి హద్దు మార్గమున సంచరించెను.

18. and another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looketh down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

19. హెబ్రీయులు కత్తులను ఈటెలను చేయించుకొందు రేమో అని ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దేశమందంతట కమ్మరవాండ్రు లేకుండచేసియుండిరి.

19. Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:

20. కాబట్టి ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరు తమ నక్కులను పారలను గొడ్డండ్రను పోటకత్తులను పదును చేయించుటకై ఫిలిష్తీయులదగ్గరకు పోవలసి వచ్చెను.

20. but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;

21. అయితే నక్కులకును పారలకును మూడు ముండ్లుగల కొంకులకును గొడ్డండ్రకును మునుకోల కఱ్ఱలు సరిచేయుటకును ఆకు రాళ్లుమాత్రము వారియొద్ద నుండెను.

21. yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads.

22. కాబట్టి యుద్ధదినమందు సౌలునొద్దను యోనా తాను నొద్దను ఉన్నజనులలోఒకని చేతిలోనైనను కత్తియే గాని యీటెయేగాని లేకపోయెను, సౌలునకును అతని కుమారుడైన యోనాతానునకును మాత్రము అవి యుండెను.

22. So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

23. ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండు కావలివారు కొందరు మిక్మషు కనుమకు వచ్చిరి.

23. And the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmash.
