1. సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగిరాగా దావీదు ఏన్గెదీ అరణ్యమందున్నాడని అతనికి వర్తమానము వచ్చెను.

1. When Saul was come again from the Philistines, there were that told him saying: behold, David is in the wilderness of Engadi.

2. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరిలోనుండి మూడు వేలమందిని ఏర్పరచుకొని వచ్చి, కొండమేకలకు వాసములగు శిలాపర్వతములమీద దావీదును అతని జనులను వెదకుటకై బయలుదేరెను.

2. Then Saul took three thousand men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men in the Rocks, where no thing haunted but wild goats.

3. మార్గముననున్న గొఱ్ఱె దొడ్లకు అతడు రాగా అక్కడ గుహ యొకటి కనబడెను. అందులో సౌలు శంకానివర్తికి పోగా దావీదును అతని జనులును ఆ గుహ లోపలిభాగములలో ఉండిరి గనుక

3. And he came to the flocks of the sheep by a way's side where was a cave. And Saul went in to cover his feet. And David and his men sat a long by the sides of the cave.

4. దావీదు జనులు అదిగోనీ దృష్టికి ఏది మంచిదో అది నీవు అతనికి చేయునట్లు నీ శత్రువుని నీ చేతికి అప్పగింతు నని యెహోవా నీతో చెప్పిన దినము వచ్చెనని అతనితో అనగా; దావీదు లేచి వచ్చి సౌలునకు తెలియకుండ అతని పైవస్త్రపు చెంగును కోసెను.

4. And the men of David said unto him: see the day is come, of which the LORD said unto thee: Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, and thou shalt do with him what it pleaseth thee. Then David arose and cut off a lap of Saul's coat privily.

5. సౌలు పైవస్త్రమును తాను కోసెనని దావీదు మనస్సు నొచ్చి

5. And immediately David's heart smote him, because he had cut off a lap of Saul's coat.

6. ఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక యెహోవాచేత అభిషిక్తుడైన నా ప్రభువునకు నేను ఈ కార్యము చేయను, యెహోవానుబట్టి అతని నేను చంపను అని తన జనులతో చెప్పెను.

6. And he said unto his men: the LORD keep me from doing that thing unto my master that is the LORD's anointed, to lay mine hand upon him, seeing he is the LORD's anointed.

7. ఈ మాటలు చెప్పి దావీదు తన జనులను అడ్డగించి సౌలు మీదికి పోనియ్యక వారిని ఆపెను. తరువాత సౌలు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లి మార్గమున పోయెను.

7. And so David kept off his servants with words, and suffered them not to go upon Saul.

8. అప్పుడు దావీదు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లినా యేలినవాడా రాజా, అని సౌలు వెనుకనుండి కేక వేయగా సౌలు వెనుక చూచెను. దావీదు నేల సాష్టాంగ పడి నమస్కారము చేసి

8. And when Saul was up out of the cave and gone away, David arose and went out of the cave and cried after Saul saying: My lord king. And Saul looked behind him. And David stooped to the earth and bowed himself,

9. సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుదావీదు నీకు కీడుచేయనుద్దే శించుచున్నాడని జనులు చెప్పిన మాటలు నీవెందుకు విను చున్నావు?

9. and said to Saul: wherefore giveth thou an ear to men's words, that say, David seeketh thee evil?

10. ఆలోచించుము; ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను ఏలాగు గుహలో నాచేతికి అప్పగించెనో అది నీ కండ్లార చూచితివే; కొందరు నిన్ను చంపుమని నాతో చెప్పినను నేను నీయందు కనికరించిఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక నా యేలినవాని చంపనని నేను చెప్పితిని.

10. Behold this day thine eyes have seen, how that the LORD had delivered thee this day, into mine hand in the cave. When they bade kill thee, mine eye had compassion on thee: and I said: I will not lay my hands on my master, for he is the LORD's anointed.

11. నా తండ్రీ చూడుము, ఇదిగో, చూడుము. నిన్ను చంపక నీ వస్త్రపుచెంగు మాత్రమే కోసితిని గనుక నావలన నీకు కీడు ఎంతమాత్రుును రాదనియు, నాలో తప్పిదము ఎంతమాత్రమును లేదనియు, నీవు తెలిసికొనవచ్చును. నీ విషయమై నేను ఏపాపమును చేయనివాడనై యుండగా నీవు నా ప్రాణము తీయవలెనని నన్ను తరుముచున్నావు.

11. And moreover my father, see yet the lap of thy coat in my hand. And in as much as I killed thee not to, when I cut off the lap of thy coat, understand and see, that there is neither evil nor rebelliousness in me, and that I have not sinned against thee. And yet thou huntest after my soul to take it.

12. నీకును నాకును మధ్య యెహోవా న్యాయము తీర్చును. యెహోవా నా విషయమై పగతీర్చునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

12. The LORD be judge between thee and me, and the LORD avenge me of thee. But mine hand be not upon thee.

13. పూర్వికులు సామ్యము చెప్పినట్టు దుష్టుల చేతనే దౌష్ట్యము పుట్టునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

13. According to the old proverb, wickedness shall proceed out of the wicked: But mine hand be not upon thee.

14. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజు ఎవని పట్టుకొన బయలుదేరి వచ్చి యున్నాడు? ఏపాటివానిని తరుముచున్నాడు? చచ్చిన కుక్కనుగదా? మిన్నల్లిని గదా?

14. After whom art thou come out, thou king of Israel? After whom chasest thou, even after a dead dog, and after a flea.

15. యెహోవా నీకును నాకును మధ్య న్యాయాధిపతియై తీర్పు తీర్చునుగాక; ఆయనే సంగతి విచారించి నా పక్షమున వ్యాజ్యెమాడి నీ వశము కాకుండ నన్ను నిర్దోషినిగా తీర్చునుగాక.

15. The LORD be judge and judge between thee and me, and see and pleate my cause, and judge me free out of thine hand.

16. దావీదు ఈ మాటలు సౌలుతో మాటలాడి చాలింపగా సౌలుదావీదా నాయనా, ఈ పలుకు నీదేనా అని బిగ్గరగా ఏడ్చి

16. When David had made an end of speaking all these words to Saul, Saul said: is this thy voice my son David? and he lifted up his voice and wept,

17. దావీదుతో ఇట్లనెను - యెహోవా నన్ను నీచేతి కప్పగింపగా నన్ను చంపక విడిచినందుకు

17. and said to David: thou art righteouser than I, for thou hast rewarded me with good, and I have rewarded thee with evil.

18. ఈ దినమున నీవు నా అపకారమునకు ఉపకారముచేసిన వాడవై, నా యెడల నీకున్న ఉపకారబుద్ధిని వెల్లడిచేసితివి గనుక నీవు నాకంటె నీతిపరుడవు.

18. And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt lovingly with me, for as much as when the LORD had locked me in thine hands, thou slewest me not.

19. ఒకనికి తన శత్రువు దొరికినయెడల మేలుచేసి పంపివేయునా? ఈ దినమున నీవు నాకు చేసినదానినిబట్టి యెహోవా ప్రతిగా నీకు మేలు చేయునుగాక.

19. For who shall find his enemy, and let him depart a good way. Wherefore the LORD reward thee with good, for that thou hast done unto me this day.

20. నిశ్చయముగా నీవు రాజ వగుదువనియు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజ్యము నీకు స్థిరపరచ బడుననియు నాకు తెలియును.

20. And now I wot well that thou shalt be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be stablished in thine hand.

21. కాబట్టి నా తరువాత నా సంతతివారిని నీవు నిర్మూలము చేయకుండునట్లును, నా తండ్రి ఇంటిలోనుండి నా పేరు నీవు కొట్టివేయ కుండునట్లును యెహోవా నామమున నాకు ప్రమాణము చేయుము. అంతట దావీదు సౌలునకు ప్రమాణము చేసెను

21. Swear therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou shalt not destroy my seed after me, and that thou shalt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

22. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇంటికి తిరిగి వచ్చెను; అయితే దావీదును అతని జనులును తమ కొండస్థలములకు వెళ్లి పోయిరి.

22. And David sware unto Saul, and Saul went home. But David and his men gat up unto an hold.
