1. అఫియకు పుట్టిన బెకోరతు కుమారుడైన సెరోరుకు జననమైన అబీయేలు కుమారుడగు కీషు అను బెన్యామీ నీయుడొకడుండెను. కీషు భాగ్యవంతుడగు ఒక బెన్యా మీనీయుడు.

1. There was a man from the tribe of Benjamin named Kish. He was the son of Abiel, grandson of Zeror, great-grandson of Becorath, great-great-grandson of Aphiah--a Benjaminite of stalwart character.

2. అతనికి సౌలు అను నొక కుమారుడుండెను. అతడు బహు సౌందర్యముగల ¸యౌవనుడు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో అతనిపాటి సుందరు డొకడునులేడు. అతడు భుజములు మొదలుకొని పైకి ఇతరులకంటె ఎత్తు గలవాడు.

2. He had a son, Saul, a most handsome young man. There was none finer--he literally stood head and shoulders above the crowd!

3. సౌలు తండ్రియైన కీషుయొక్క గార్దభములు తప్పిపోగా కీషు తన కుమారుడైన సౌలును పిలిచిమన దాసులలో ఒకని తీసికొనిపోయి గార్దభములను వెదకుమని చెప్పెను.

3. Some of Kish's donkeys got lost. Kish said to his son, 'Saul, take one of the servants with you and go look for the donkeys.'

4. అతడు పోయి ఎఫ్రాయిము మన్యము తిరిగి షాలిషాదేశమున సంచరింపగా అవి కన బడలేదు. తరువాత వారు షయలీము దేశమును దాటి సంచారము చేసిరి గాని అవి కనబడకయుండెను. బెన్యామీనీయుల దేశము సంచరించి చూడగా అవి దొరకలేదు.

4. Saul took one of the servants and went to find the donkeys. They went into the hill country of Ephraim around Shalisha, but didn't find them. Then they went over to Shaalim--no luck. Then to Jabin, and still nothing.

5. అయితే వారు సూపు దేశమునకు వచ్చి నప్పుడుమనము తిరిగి వెళ్లుదము రమ్ము, గార్దభముల కొరకు చింతింపక, నా తండ్రి మనకొరకు విచారపడు నేమోయని సౌలు తనయొద్దనున్న పనివానితో అనగా

5. When they got to Zuph, Saul said to the young man with him, 'Enough of this. Let's go back. Soon my father is going to forget about the donkeys and start worrying about us.'

6. వాడుఇదిగో ఈ పట్టణములో దైవజనుడు ఒకడున్నాడు, అతడు బహు ఘనుడు, అతడు ఏ మాట చెప్పునో ఆ మాట నెరవేరును. మనము వెళ్లవలసిన మార్గమును అతడు మనకు తెలియజేయునేమో అతని యొద్దకు వెళ్లుదము రండని చెప్పెను.

6. He replied, 'Not so fast. There's a holy man in this town. He carries a lot of weight around here. What he says is always right on the mark. Maybe he can tell us where to go.'

7. అందుకు సౌలుమనము వెళ్లునెడల ఆ మనిషికి ఏమి తీసికొని పోవు దుము? మన సామగ్రిలోనుండు భోజనపదార్థములు సరి పోయినవి; ఆ దైవజనునికి బహుమానము తీసి కొనిపోవుటకు మన కేమియు లేదు అని తన పనివానితో చెప్పిమనయొద్ద ఏమి యున్నదని అడుగగా

7. Saul said, 'If we go, what do we have to give him? There's no more bread in our sacks. We've nothing to bring as a gift to the holy man. Do we have anything else?'

8. వాడు సౌలుతోచిత్తగించుము, నా యొద్ద పావు తులము వెండి కలదు. మనకు మార్గము తెలియజెప్పినందుకై దానిని ఆ దైవజనుని కిత్తుననెను.

8. The servant spoke up, 'Look, I just happen to have this silver coin! I'll give it to the holy man and he'll tell us how to proceed!'

9. ఇప్పుడు ప్రవక్తయను పేరు నొందువాడు పూర్వము దీర్ఘదర్శియనిపించుకొనెను. పూర్వము ఇశ్రా యేలీయులలో దేవునియొద్ద విచారణ చేయుటకై ఒకడు బయలుదేరినయెడలమనము దీర్ఘదర్శకుని యొద్దకు పోవు దము రండని జనులు చెప్పుకొనుట వాడుక.

9. (In former times in Israel, a person who wanted to seek God's word on a matter would say, 'Let's visit the Seer,' because the one we now call 'the Prophet' used to be called 'the Seer.')

10. సౌలునీ మాట మంచిది, వెళ్లుదము రమ్మనగా

10. 'Good,' said Saul, 'let's go.' And they set off for the town where the holy man lived.

11. వారు దైవజనుడుండు ఊరికి పోయిరి. ఊరికి ఎక్కిపోవుచుండగా నీళ్లుచేదుకొను టకై వచ్చిన కన్యకలు తమకు కనబడినప్పుడుఇక్కడ దీర్ఘ దర్శియున్నాడా అని అడిగిరి.

11. As they were climbing up the hill into the town, they met some girls who were coming out to draw water. They said to them, 'Is this where the Seer lives?'

12. అందుకు వారుఇదిగో అతడు మీ యెదుటనే యున్నాడు, త్వరగా పోయి కలిసికొనుడి; యీ దినముననే అతడు ఈ ఊరికి వచ్చెను. నేడు ఉన్నతస్థలమందు జనులకు బలి జరుగును గనుక

12. They answered, 'It sure is--just ahead. Hurry up. He's come today because the people have prepared a sacrifice at the shrine.

13. ఊరిలోనికి మీరు పోయిన క్షణమందే, అతడు భోజనము చేయుటకు ఉన్నతమైన స్థలమునకు వెళ్లక మునుపే మీరు అతని కనుగొందురు; అతడు రాక మునుపు జనులు భోజనము చేయరు; అతడు బలిని ఆశీర్వదించిన తరువాత పిలువ బడినవారు భోజనము చేయుదురు, మీరు ఎక్కిపొండి; అతని చూచుటకు ఇదే సమయమని చెప్పిరి.

13. As soon as you enter the town, you can catch him before he goes up to the shrine to eat. The people won't eat until he arrives, for he has to bless the sacrifice. Only then can everyone eat. So get going. You're sure to find him!'

14. వారు ఊరిలోనికి రాగా ఉన్నతమైన స్థలమునకు పోవుచున్న సమూయేలు వారికి ఎదురుపడెను.

14. They continued their climb and entered the city. And then there he was--Samuel!--coming straight toward them on his way to the shrine!

15. సౌలు అచ్చటికి రేపు వచ్చునని యెహోవా సమూ యేలునకు తెలియజేసెను.

15. The very day before, GOD had confided in Samuel,

16. ఎట్లనగానా జనుల మొఱ్ఱ నాయొద్దకు వచ్చెను, నేను వారిని దృష్టించి యున్నాను; కాగా ఫిలిష్తీయుల చేతిలోనుండి నా జనులను విడిపించుటకై నా జనులైన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీద వానిని అధికారినిగా అభిషేకించుటకుగాను రేపు ఈ వేళకు నేను బెన్యామీను దేశములోనుండి ఒక మనుష్యుని నీయొద్దకు రప్పించుదును.

16. 'This time tomorrow, I'm sending a man from the land of Benjamin to meet you. You're to anoint him as prince over my people Israel. He will free my people from Philistine oppression. Yes, I know all about their hard circumstances. I've heard their cries for help.'

17. సౌలు సమూయేలునకు కనబడగానే యెహోవాఇతడే నేను నీతో చెప్పిన మనిషి ఇదిగో ఇతడే నా జనులను ఏలునని అతనితో సెలవిచ్చెను.

17. The moment Samuel laid eyes on Saul, GOD said, 'He's the one, the man I told you about. This is the one who will keep my people in check.'

18. సౌలు గవినియందు సమూయేలును కలిసికొనిదీర్ఘదర్శి యిల్లు ఏది? దయచేసి నాతో చెప్పుమని అడుగగా

18. Saul came up to Samuel in the street and said, 'Pardon me, but can you tell me where the Seer lives?'

19. సమూయేలు సౌలుతోనేనే దీర్ఘదర్శిని, ఉన్నతమైన స్థలమునకు నాకుముందు వెళ్లుడి, నేడు మీరు నాతో కూడ భోజనము చేయవలెను, రేపు నీ మనస్సులో నున్న దంతయు నీకు తెలియజేసి నిన్ను వెళ్లనిచ్చెదను.

19. 'I'm the Seer,' said Samuel. 'Accompany me to the shrine and eat with me. In the morning I'll tell you all about what's on your mind, and send you on your way.

20. మూడు దినముల క్రిందట తప్పిపోయిన నీ గార్దభములనుగూర్చి విచారపడకుము, అవి దొరికినవి. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల అభీష్టము ఎవరియందున్నది? నీ యందును నీ తండ్రి యింటి వారియందును గదా అనెను.

20. And by the way, your lost donkeys--the ones you've been hunting for the last three days--have been found, so don't worry about them. At this moment, Israel's future is in your hands.'

21. అందుకు సౌలు నేను బెన్యామీనీయుడను కానా? నా గోత్రము ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల గోత్రములలో స్వల్పమైనదికాదా? నా యింటి వారు బెన్యామీను గోత్రపు ఇంటివారందరిలో అల్పులు కారా? నాతో ఈలాగున ఎందుకు పలుకుచున్నావు? అనెను.

21. Saul answered, 'But I'm only a Benjaminite, from the smallest of Israel's tribes, and from the most insignificant clan in the tribe at that. Why are you talking to me like this?'

22. అయితే సమూయేలు సౌలును అతని పనివానిని భోజనపు సాలలోనికి తోడుకొనిపోయి, పిలువబడిన దాదాపు ముప్పది మందిలో ప్రధానస్థలమందు వారిని కూర్చుండబెట్టి

22. Samuel took Saul and his servant and led them into the dining hall at the shrine and seated them at the head of the table. There were about thirty guests.

23. పచనకర్తతోనేను నీ దగ్గరనుంచుమని చెప్పి నీ చేతికి ఇచ్చిన భాగమును తీసికొని రమ్మనగా

23. Then Samuel directed the chef, 'Bring the choice cut I pointed out to you, the one I told you to reserve.'

24. పచనకర్త జబ్బను దాని మీదనున్న దానిని తీసికొనివచ్చి సౌలు ఎదుట ఉంచగా సమూయేలు సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుచూడుము, మనము కలిసికొను కాలమునకై దాచియుంచ బడిన దానిని నీకు పెట్టియున్నాడు, జనులను పిలిచితినని నేను పచనకర్తతో చెప్పినప్పుడు ఇది నీకొరకుంచవలసినదని చెప్పితిని. ఆ దినమున సౌలు సమూయేలుతో కూడభోజనముచేసెను,

24. The chef brought it and placed it before Saul with a flourish, saying, 'This meal was kept aside just for you. Eat! It was especially prepared for this time and occasion with these guests.' Saul ate with Samuel--a memorable day!

25. పట్టణస్థులు ఉన్నతమైన స్థలముమీదనుండి దిగుచుండగా సమూయేలు సౌలుతో మిద్దెమీద మాటలాడు చుండెను.

25. Afterward they went down from the shrine into the city. A bed was prepared for Saul on the breeze-cooled roof of Samuel's house.

26. మరునాడు తెల్లవారునప్పుడు సమూయేలుమిద్దెమీదనున్న సౌలును పిలిచి నేను నిన్ను సాగనంపుటకై లెమ్ము అని చెప్పగా సౌలు లేచెను. తరువాత వారిద్దరు బయలుదేరి

26. They woke at the break of day. Samuel called to Saul on the roof, 'Get up and I'll send you off.' Saul got up and the two of them went out in the street.

27. ఊరి చివరకు వచ్చు చుండగా సమూయేలు సౌలుతోమనకంటె ముందుగా వెళ్లుమని యీ పనివానితో చెప్పుము; దేవుడు సెలవిచ్చినది నేను నీకు తెలియజెప్పువరకు నీవు ఇక్కడ నిలిచి యుండుమనెను; అంతట వాడు వెళ్లెను.

27. As they approached the outskirts of town, Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell your servant to go on ahead of us. You stay with me for a bit. I have a word of God to give you.'
