1. యాకోబు తన తండ్రి పరదేశ వాసిగ ఉండిన కనాను దేశములో నివసించెను.

1. And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, that is to say in the land of Canaan.

2. యాకోబు వంశావళి యిది. యోసేపు పదునేడేండ్లవాడై తన సహోదరులతో కూడ మందను మేపుచుండెను. అతడు చిన్నవాడై తన తండ్రి భార్యలైన బిల్హా కుమారుల యొద్దను జిల్పా కుమారుల యొద్దను ఉండెను. అప్పుడు యోసేపు వారి చెడుతనమును గూర్చిన సమాచారము వారి తండ్రియొద్దకు తెచ్చుచుండు వాడు.

2. And these are the generations of Jacob: when Joseph was seventeen year old, he kept sheep with his brethren, and the lad was with the sons of Bilha and of Zilpha his father's wives. And he brought unto their father an evil saying that was of them.

3. మరియు యోసేపు ఇశ్రాయేలు వృద్ధాప్యమందు పుట్టిన కుమారుడు గనుక తన కుమారులందరికంటె ఎక్కువగా అతని ప్రేమించి అతని కొరకు విచిత్రమైన నిలువు టంగీ కుట్టించెను.

3. And Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he begat him in his old age, and he made him a coat of many colours.

4. అతని సహోదరులు తమ తండ్రి అతనిని తమ అందరికంటె ఎక్కువగా ప్రేమించుట చూచినప్పుడు వారు అతని మీద పగపట్టి, అతనిని క్షేమ సమాచారమైనను అడుగలేక పోయిరి.

4. When his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak one kind word unto him.

5. యోసేపు ఒక కల కని తన సహోదరులతో అది తెలియచెప్పగా వారు అతనిమీద మరి పగపట్టిరి.

5. Moreover Joseph dreamed a dream and told it his brethren: wherefore they hated him yet the more.

6. అతడు వారినిచూచి - నేను కనిన యీ కలను మీరు దయచేసి వినుడి.

6. And he said unto them hear I pray yow this dream which I have dreamed:

7. అదేమనగా మనము చేనిలో పనలు కట్టుచుంటిమి; నా పన లేచి నిలుచుండగా మీ పనలు నా పనను చుట్టుకొని నా పనకు సాష్టాంగపడెనని చెప్పెను.

7. Behold we were making sheaves in the field: and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright, and yours stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf.

8. అందుకతని సహోదరులు నీవు నిశ్చయముగా మమ్ము నేలెదవా? మా మీద నీవు అధికారి వగుదువా అని అతనితో చెప్పి, అతని కలలనుబట్టియు అతని మాటలనుబట్టియు అతనిమీద మరింత పగపట్టిరి.

8. Then said his brethren unto him: what, shalt thou be our king or shalt thou reign over us? And they hated him yet the more, because of his dream and of his words.

9. అతడింకొక కల కని తన సహోదరులకు తెలియచేసి ఇదిగో నేను మరియొక కలకంటిని; అందులో సూర్య చంద్రులును పదకొండు నక్షత్రములును నాకు సాష్టాంగ పడెనని చెప్పెను.

9. And he dreamed yet another dream and told it his brethren saying: behold, I have had one dream more: me thought the son(sonne) and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.

10. అతడు తన తండ్రితోను తన సహోదరుల తోను అది తెలియచెప్పినప్పుడు అతని తండ్రి అతనితో నీవు కనిన యీ కల యేమిటి? నేను నీ తల్లియు నీ సహోదరులును నిశ్చయముగా వచ్చి నీకు సాష్టాంగ పడుదుమా అని అతని గద్దించెను.

10. And when he had told it unto his father and his brethren, his father rebuked him and said unto him: what meaneth this dream which thou hast dreamed: shall I and thy mother and thy brethren come and fall on the ground before thee?

11. అతని సహోదరులు అతనియందు అసూయపడిరి. అయితే అతని తండ్రి ఆ మాట జ్ఞాపకముంచుకొనెను.

11. And his brethren hated him, but his father noted the saying.

12. అతని సహోదరులు షెకెములో తమ తండ్రి మందను మేపుటకు వెళ్లిరి.

12. His brethren went to keep their father's sheep in Sichem,

13. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు యోసేపును చూచి - నీ సహోదరులు షెకెములో మంద మేపుచున్నారు. నిన్ను వారియొద్దకు పంపెదను రమ్మన్నప్పుడు అతడు - మంచిదని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

13. and Israel said unto Joseph: do not thy brethren keep in Sichem? come that I may send thee to them. And he answered here am I.

14. అప్పుడతడు నీవు వెళ్ళి నీ సహోదరుల క్షేమమును మంద క్షేమమును తెలిసికొని నాకు వర్తమానము తెమ్మని అతినితో చెప్పి హెబ్రోను లోయలోనుండి అతని పంపెను. అతడు షెకెమునకు వచ్చెను.

14. And he said unto him: go and see whether it be well with thy brethren and the sheep, and bring me word again: And sent him out of the vale of Hebron, for to go to Sichem.

15. అతడు పొలములో ఇటు అటు తిరుగుచుండగా ఒక మనుష్యుడు అతనిని చూచి - నీవేమి వెదకుచున్నావని అతని నడిగెను.

15. And a certain man found him wandering out of his way in the field, and asked him what he sought.

16. అందుకతడు నేను నా సహోదరులను వెదుకుచున్నాను, వారు ఎక్కడ మందను మేపుచున్నారో అది దయచేసి నాకు తెలుపుమని అడిగెను.

16. And he answered: I seek my brethren, tell me I pray thee where they keep sheep.

17. అందుకు ఆ మనుష్యుడు - ఇక్కడనుండి వారు సాగి వెళ్లిరి. వారు దోతానుకు వెళ్లుదము రండని చెప్పుకొనుట వింటినని చెప్పెను. అప్పుడు యోసేపు తన సహోదరుల కోసము వెళ్లి దోతానులో వారిని కనుగొనెను.

17. And the man said, they are departed hence, for I heard them say, let us go unto Dothan. Thus went Joseph after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

18. అతడు దగ్గరకు రాకమునుపు వారు దూరము నుండి అతని చూచి అతని చంపుటకు దురాలోచన చేసిరి.

18. And when they saw him afar off before he came at them, they took counsel(councell) against him, for to slay him,

19. వారు - ఇదిగో ఈ కలలు కనువాడు వచ్చుచున్నాడు;

19. and said one to another: Behold this dreamer cometh,

20. వీని చంపి యిక్కడనున్న ఒక గుంటలో పారవేసి, దుష్టమృగము వీని తినివేసెనని చెప్పుదము, అప్పుడు వీని కలలేమగునో చూతము రండని ఒకనితో ఒకడు మాటలాడుకొనిరి.

20. come now and let us slay him and cast him into some pit, and let us say that son(sonne) wicked beast hath devoured him, and let us see what his dreams will come to.

21. రూబేను ఆ మాట వినిమనము వానిని చంపరాదని చెప్పి వారి చేతులలో పడకుండ అతని విడిపించెను.

21. When Ruben heard that, he went about to rid him out of their hands and said, let us not kill him.

22. ఎట్లనగా రూబేను అతని తండ్రికి అతని నప్పగించుటకై వారి చేతులలో పడకుండ అతని విడిపింప దలచిరక్తము చిందింపకుడి; అతనికి హాని ఏమియు చేయక అడవిలోనున్న యీ గుంటలో అతని పడద్రోయుడని వారితో చెప్పెను.

22. And Ruben said moreover unto them, shed not his blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hands upon him: for he would have rid him out of their hands and delivered him to his father again.

23. యోసేపు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు వచ్చినప్పుడు వారు యోసేపు అంగీని అతడు తొడుగుకొని యుండిన ఆ విచిత్రమైన నిలువుటంగీని తీసివేసి,

23. And as soon as Joseph was come unto his brethren, they stripped him out, of his gay coat that was upon him,

24. అతని పట్టుకొని ఆ గుంటలో పడద్రోసిరి. ఆ గుంట వట్టిది అందులో నీళ్లులేవు.

24. and they took him and cast him into a pit. But the pit was empty and had no water therein.

25. వారు భోజనముచేయ కూర్చుండి, కన్నులెత్తి చూడగా ఐగుప్తునకు తీసికొని పోవుటకు గుగ్గిలము మస్తకియు బోళమును మోయుచున్న ఒంటెలతో ఇష్మాయేలీయులైన మార్గస్థులు గిలాదునుండి వచ్చుచుండిరి.

25. And they sat them down to eat bread. And as they lift up their eyes and looked about, there came a company of Ismaelites from Gilead, and their camels laden with spicery, balm, and myrrh, and were going down into Egypt.

26. అప్పుడు యూదా మనము మన సహోదరుని చంపి వాని మరణమును దాచి పెట్టినందువలన ఏమి ప్రయోజనము?

26. Then said Juda to his brethren, what availeth it that we slay our brother, and keep his blood secret?

27. ఈ ఇష్మాయేలీయులకు వానిని అమ్మి వేయుదము రండి; వాడు మన సహోదరుడు మన రక్త సంబంధిగదా? వానికి హాని యేమియు చేయరాదని తన సహోదరులతో చెప్పెను. అందుకతని సహోదరులు సమ్మతించిరి.

27. come on, let us sell him to the Ismaelites, and let not our hands be defiled upon him: for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

28. మిద్యానీయులైన వర్తకులు ఆ మీదుగా వెళ్లుచుండగా, వారు ఆ గుంటలోనుండి యోసేపును పైకి తీసి ఆ ఇష్మాయేలీయులకు ఇరువది తులముల వెండికి అతనిని అమ్మివేసిరి. వారు యోసేపును ఐగుప్తునకు తీసికొనిపోయిరి.

28. Then as the Madianites merchant men passed by, they drew Joseph out of the pit and sold him unto the Ismaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought him into Egypt.

29. రూబేను ఆ గుంటకు తిరిగివచ్చినప్పుడు యోసేపు గుంటలో లేకపోగా అతడు తన బట్టలు చింపుకొని

29. And when Ruben came again unto the pit and found not Joseph there, he rent his clothes

30. తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు తిరిగివెళ్లి - చిన్నవాడు లేడే; అయ్యో నేనెక్కడికి పోదుననగా

30. and went again unto his brethren saying: the lad is not yonder, and whither shall I go?

31. వారు యోసేపు అంగీని తీసికొని, ఒక మేకపిల్లను చంపి, దాని రక్తములో ఆ అంగీముంచి

31. And they took Joseph's coat and killed a goat, and dipped the coat in the blood.

32. ఆ విచిత్రమైన నిలువుటంగీని పంపగా వారు తండ్రియొద్దకు దానిని తెచ్చి - ఇది మాకు దొరికెను, ఇది నీ కుమారుని అంగీ అవునో కాదో గురుతుపట్టుమని చెప్పిరి

32. And they sent that gay coat and caused it to be brought unto their father and said: This have we found: see, whether it be thy son's coat or no.

33. అతడు దానిని గురుతుపట్టి ఈ అంగీ నా కుమారునిదే; దుష్ట మృగము వానిని తినివేసెను; యోసేపు నిశ్చయముగా చీల్చబడెననెను.

33. And he knew it saying: it is my son's coat: a wicked beast hath devoured him, and Joseph is rent in pieces.

34. యాకోబు తన బట్టలు చింపుకొని తన నడుమున గోనెపట్ట కట్టుకొని అనేక దినములు తన కుమారుని నిమిత్తము అంగలార్చుచుండగా

34. And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sack cloth about his loins, and sorrowed for his son a long season.

35. అతని కుమారులందరును అతని కుమార్తెలందరును అతనిని ఓదార్చుటకు యత్నము చేసిరి; అయితే అతడు ఓదార్పు పొందనొల్లకనేను అంగలార్చుచు మృతుల లోకమునకు నా కుమారుని యొద్దకు వెళ్లెదనని చెప్పి అతని తండ్రి అతని కోసము ఏడ్చెను.

35. Then came all his sons and all his daughters to comfort him. And he would not be comforted, but said: I will go down into the grave unto my son, mourning. And thus his father wept for him.

36. మిద్యానీయులు ఐగుప్తునకు అతని తీసికొనిపోయి, ఫరోయొక్క ఉద్యోగస్థుడును రాజ సంరక్షక సేనాధిపతియునైన పోతీఫరునకు అతనిని అమ్మివేసిరి.

36. And the Madianites sold him in Egypt unto Putiphar a lord of Pharao's: and his chief marshal.
