1. పిమ్మట అమ్మోను రాజు మృతి నొందగా అతని కుమారుడగు హానూను అతని రాజ్యము నేలుచుండెను.

1. And it came to pass at the return of the year, at the time when kings go forth to war, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel, and they spoiled the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabba: but David remained in Jerusalem.

2. దావీదు హానూను తండ్రియైన నాహాషు నాకు చేసిన ఉపకారమునకు నేను హానూనునకు ప్రత్యుపకారము చేతుననుకొని, అతని తండ్రి నిమి త్తము అతని నోదార్చుటకై తన సేవకులచేత సమాచారము పంపించెను. దావీదు సేవకులు అమ్మోనీయుల దేశములోనికి రాగా

2. In the mean time it happened that David arose from his bed after noon, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and he saw from the roof of his house a woman washing herself, over against him: and the woman was very beautiful.

3. అమ్మోనీయుల ఘనులు తమ రాజగు హానూనుతో ఈలాగు మనవిచేసిరినీ తండ్రిని సన్మానించుటకే దావీదు నీయొద్దకు ఓదార్చు వారిని పంపెనని నీవనుకొనుచున్నావా? ఈ పట్టణమును నాశము చేయవలెనని దాని శోధించుటకై వారిని అతడు వేగు నిమిత్తమే పంపించియున్నాడని నీకు తోచ లేదా?

3. And the king sent, and inquired who the woman was. And it was told him, that she was Bethsabee the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Urias the Hethite.

4. అంతట హానూను దావీదు పంపించిన సేవకులను పట్టుకొని, సగము గడ్డము గొరిగించి, వారు తొడుగుకొనిన బట్టలను నడిమికి పిఱ్ఱలమట్టుకు కత్తిరించి వారిని వెళ్లగొట్టెను.

4. And David sent messengers, and took her, and she came in to him, and he slept with her: and presently she was purified from her uncleanness:

5. ఈ సంగతి దావీదునకు వినబడినప్పుడు, ఆ మనుష్యులు బహు సిగ్గునొందిరని వారిని ఎదుర్కొనుటకై మనుష్యులను పంపించిమీ గడ్డములు పెరుగువరకు యెరికోపట్టణమందు ఆగి అటుతరువాత రండని వారితో చెప్పుడనెను.

5. And she returned to her house having conceived. And she sent and told David, and said: I have conceived.

6. దావీదు దృష్టికి మనలను మనము హేయపరచుకొంటిమని అమ్మోనీయులు గ్రహించి దూత లను పంపి, బేత్రెహోబుతోను అరాము సోబాతోను చేరిన సిరియనులలోనుండి యిరువదివేల మంది కాల్బల మును, మయకా రాజు నొద్దనుండి వెయ్యిమంది బంటులను,టోబులోనుండి పండ్రెండు వేలమంది బంటులను జీతమునకు పిలిపించుకొనిరి.

6. And David sent to Joab, saying: Send me Urias the Hethite. And Joab sent Urias to David.

7. దావీదు ఈ సంగతి విని, యోవాబును శూరుల దండంతటిని పంపెను.

7. And Urias came to David. And David asked how Joab did, and the people, and how the war was carried on.

8. అమ్మోనీయులు బయలుదేరి గుమ్మమునకెదురుగా యుద్ధ పంక్తులు తీర్చిరి. సోబా సిరియనులును రెహోబు సిరియనులును మయకావారును టోబువారును విడిగా పొలములో నిలిచిరి.

8. And David said to Urias: Go into thy house, and wash thy feet. And Urias went out from the king's house, and there went out after him a mess of meat from the king.

9. యోవాబు తనకు వెనుకను ముందును వారు యుద్ధ పంక్తులు తీర్చియుండుట చూచి, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో బలాఢ్యులను ఏర్పరచి పంక్తులు తీర్చి సిరియనులను ఎదు ర్కొన బోయెను.

9. But Urias slept before the gate of the king's house, with the other servants of his lord, and went not down to his own house.

10. అమ్మోనీయులను ఎదుర్కొనుటకై మిగిలినవారిని తన సహోదరుడగు

10. And it was told David by some that said: Urias went not to his house. And David said to Urias: Didst thou not come from thy journey? why didst thou not go down to thy house?

11. అబీషైకి అప్పగించి సిరియనుల బలము నాకు మించినయెడల నీవు నన్ను ఆదుకొనవలెను, అమ్మోనీయుల బలము నీకు మించిన యెడల నేను వచ్చి నిన్ను ఆదుకొందునని చెప్పి అమ్మోనీయులను ఎదుర్కొనుటకై తనవారిని వ్యూహపరచెను.

11. And Urias said to David: The ark of God and Israel and Juda dwell in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord abide upon the face of the earth: and shall I go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to sleep with my wife? By thy welfare and by the welfare of thy soul I will not do this thing.

12. అప్పుడుధైర్యము తెచ్చుకొమ్ము, మన జనులను మన దేవుని పట్టణములను తలంచుకొని ధైర్యము తెచ్చుకొందము, తన దృష్టికి ఏది యనుకూలమో యెహోవా దానిని చేయునుగాక అని అబీషైతో చెప్పి

12. Then David said to Urias: Tarry here today, and tomorrow I will send thee away. Urias tarried in Jerusalem that day and the next.

13. యోవాబును అతనితోకూడ నున్న వారును సిరియనులతో యుద్ధము చేయ బయలుదేరగానే వారు అతని యెదుట నిలువజాలక పారిపోయిరి.

13. And David called him to eat and to drink before him, and he made him drunk: and he went out in the evening, and slept on his couch with the servants of his lord, and went not down into his house.

14. సిరియనులు పారిపోవుట అమ్మోనీయులు చూచి వారును అబీషై యెదుట నిలువలేక పారిపోయి పట్టణములో చొరబడగా, యోవాబు అమ్మోనీయులను విడిచి యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చెను.

14. And when the morning was come, David wrote a letter to Joab: and sent it by the hand of Urias,

15. అయితే సిరియనులు తాము ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల చేతిలో ఓడిపోతిమని తెలిసికొని గుంపుకూడిరి.

15. Writing in the letter: Set ye Urias in the front of the battle, where the fight is strongest: and leave ye him, that he may be wounded and die.

16. హదదెజరు నదియవతలనున్న సిరియనులను పిలువనంపగా వారు హేలామునకు వచ్చిరి.

16. Wherefore as Joab was besieging the city, he put Urias in the place where he knew the bravest men were.

17. హదదెజరు సైన్యాధిపతియగు షోబకు వీరికి అధిపతిగా ఉండెను. దావీదునకు ఈ వార్త వినబడినప్పుడు అతడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులనందరిని సమకూర్చి యొర్దానునది దాటి హేలామునకు వచ్చెను.

17. And the men coming out of the city, fought against Joab, and there fell some of the people of the servants of David, and Urias the Hethite was killed also.

18. సిరియనులు సన్నద్ధులై దావీదును ఎదుర్కొన వచ్చి అతనితో యుద్ధము కలిపి ఇశ్రా యేలీయుల యెదుట నిలువజాలక పారిపోగా, దావీదు సిరియనులలో ఏడు వందలమంది రథికులను నలువది వేల మంది గుఱ్ఱపు రౌతులను హతము చేసెను. మరియు వారి సైన్యాధిపతి యగు షోబకు దావీదు చేతిలో ఓడిపోయి అచ్చటనే చచ్చెను.

18. Then Joab sent, and told David all things concerning the battle.

19. హదదెజరునకు సేవకులగు రాజు లందరు తాము ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల యెదుట నిలువలేకుండ కొట్టబడియుండుట చూచి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులతో సమా ధానపడి వారికి లోబడిరి. సిరియనులు భయాక్రాంతులై అమ్మోనీయులకు ఇక సహాయముచేయుట మానిరి.

19. And he charged the messenger, saying: When thou hast told all the words of the battle to the king,
