1. రెహబామునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుటకై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును షెకెమునకు వెళ్లగా రెహబాముషెకెమునకు పోయెను.

1. Rechav'am went to Sh'khem, where all Isra'el had come in order to proclaim him king.

2. రాజైన సొలొమోను సమక్షము నుండి పారిపోయి ఐగుప్తులో వాసము చేయుచున్న నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాము అది విని ఐగుప్తునుండి తిరిగిరాగా జనులు అతని పిలిపించిరి.

2. When Yarov'am the son of N'vat heard of it, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from Shlomo.

3. యరొబామును ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును కూడి వచ్చి నీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను;

3. They sent and summoned him, so Yarov'am and all Isra'el came and said to Rechav'am,

4. నీ తండ్రి నియమించిన కఠిన దాస్యమును అతడు మామీద ఉంచిన బరువైన కాడిని నీవు ఇప్పుడు చులుకన చేసినయెడల మేము నిన్ను సేవింతు మని రెహబాముతో మనవిచేయగా

4. Your father laid a harsh yoke on us. But if you will lighten the harsh service we had to render your father and ease his heavy yoke that he put on us, we will serve you.'

5. అతడుమీరు మూడు దినములు తాళి మరల నాయొద్దకు రండని చెప్పెను గనుక జనులు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

5. He said to them, 'Come back to me after three days.' So the people left.

6. అప్పుడు రాజైన రెహ బాము తన తండ్రియైన సొలొమోను సజీవియై యుండగా అతని సమక్షమున నిలిచిన పెద్దలను పిలిపించి - యీ జనులకు నేనేమి ప్రత్యుత్తర మియ్యవలెను? మీరు చెప్పు ఆలోచన ఏది అని అడుగగా

6. King Rechav'am consulted the older men who had been in attendance on Shlomo his father during his lifetime and asked, 'What advice would you give me as to how to answer these people?'

7. వారునీవు ఈ జనులయెడల దయా దాక్షిణ్యములు చూపి వారితో మంచి మాటలాడినయెడల వారు ఎప్పటికిని నీకు దాసులగుదురని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

7. They said to him, 'If you will treat these people kindly, pleasing them and giving them favorable consideration, they will be your servants forever.'

8. అయితే అతడు పెద్దలు తనకు చెప్పిన ఆలోచన త్రోసి వేసి, తనతోకూడ పెరిగి తన యెదుటనున్న ¸యౌవనస్థులతో ఆలోచనచేసి

8. But he didn't take the advice the older men gave him; instead he consulted the young men he had grown up with, who were now his attendants.

9. నీ తండ్రి మామీద ఉంచిన కాడిని చులుకన చేయుమని నన్నడిగిన యీ జనులకు ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమి ఇయ్యవలెనని మీరు యోచింతురో చెప్పుడని వారినడుగగా

9. He said to them, 'What advice would you give me, so that we can give an answer to these people who said to me, 'Lighten the yoke that your father laid on us'?'

10. అతనితో కూడ పెరిగిన యీ ¸యౌవనస్థులు అతనితో ఇట్లనిరినీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నీవు దానిని చులుకన చేయుమని నీతో పలికిన యీ జనులతో నీవు చెప్పవలసినదేమనగానా చిటికెన వ్రేలు నా తండ్రియొక్క నడుముకంటె బరువుగా ఉండును;

10. The young men he had grown up with said to him, 'The people who said to you, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter for us'- here's the answer you should give them: 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist!

11. నా తండ్రి బరువైన కాడి మీమీద మోపెను గాని నేను మీ కాడిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను గాని నేను కొరడాలతో మిమ్మును దండించెదనని చెప్పుము.

11. Yes, my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will make it heavier! My father controlled you with whips, but I [[will control you]] with scorpions!''

12. మూడవ దినమందు నాయొద్దకు తిరిగి రండని రాజు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము యరొబామును జనులందరును మూడవ దినమందు రెహబామునొద్దకు రాగా

12. So Yarov'am and all the people came to Rechav'am the third day, as the king had requested by saying, 'Come to me again the third day';

13. రాజైన రెహబాము పెద్దల ఆలోచనను త్రోసివేసి, ¸యౌవనస్థులు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము వారితో మాటలాడి

13. and the king answered them harshly. Abandoning the advice of the older men, King Rechav'am

14. వారికి కఠినమైన ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను; ఎట్లనగానా తండ్రి మీ కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నేను దానిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను, నేను మిమ్మును కొరడా లతో దండించెదనని చెప్పెను.

14. addressed them according to the advice of the young men and said, 'I will make your yoke heavy, and I will add to it! My father controlled you with whips, but I will control you with scorpions!'

15. యెహోవా షిలోనీయుడైన అహీయాద్వారా నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాముతో సెలవిచ్చిన తన మాటను స్థిరపరచునట్లు దేవుని నిర్ణయ ప్రకారము జనులు చేసిన మనవి రాజు ఆలకించక పోయెను.

15. So the king didn't listen to the people; and that was something God brought about, so that ADONAI could fulfill his word, which he had spoken through Achiyah from Shiloh to Yarov'am the son of N'vat.

16. రాజు తాము చేసిన మనవి అంగీకరింపక పోవుట చూచి జనులుదావీదులో మాకు భాగము ఏది? యెష్షయి కుమారునియందు మాకు స్వాస్థ్యము లేదు;ఇశ్రా యేలువారలారా, మీ గుడారమునకు పోవుడి; దావీదూ, నీ సంతతివారిని నీవే చూచుకొనుమని రాజునకు ప్రత్యు త్తరమిచ్చి ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును ఎవరి గుడారమునకు వారు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

16. When all Isra'el [[saw]] that the king wasn't listening to them, the people answered the king, 'Do we have any share in David? We have no heritage in the son of Yishai! Everyone to your tents, Isra'el! Care for your own house, David!' So all Isra'el left for their tents.

17. అయితే యూదాపట్టణములలో కాపురముండు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద రెహబాము ఏలుబడి చేసెను.

17. But as for the people of Isra'el living in the cities of Y'hudah, Rechav'am ruled over them.

18. రాజైన రెహబాము వెట్టిపనివారిమీద అధికారి యైన హదోరమును పంపగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు రాళ్లతో అతని చావ గొట్టిరి గనుక రాజైన రెహబాము యెరూష లేమునకు పారిపోవలెనని త్వరపడి తన రథము ఎక్కెను.

18. King Rechav'am then sent Hadoram, who was in charge of forced labor; but the people of Isra'el stoned him to death. King Rechav'am managed to mount his chariot and flee to Yerushalayim.

19. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఇప్పటికిని దావీదు సంతతివారిమీద తిరుగుబాటు చేసి నేటివరకును వారికి లోబడకయున్నారు.

19. Isra'el has been in rebellion against the dynasty of David to this day.
