1. నీతిమంతులును జ్ఞానులును వారి క్రియలును దేవుని వశమను సంగతిని, స్నేహము చేయుటయైనను ద్వేషించు టయైనను మనుష్యుల వశమున లేదను సంగతిని, అది యంతయు వారివలన కాదను సంగతిని పూర్తిగా పరిశీలన చేయుటకై నా మనస్సు నిలిపి నిదానింప బూనుకొంటిని.

1. [I saw] that the righteous, the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God. Yea, there is no man that knows either love or hatred, [though] all are before their face.

2. సంభవించునవి అన్నియు అందరికిని ఏకరీతిగానే సంభ వించును; నీతిమంతులకును దుష్టులకును, మంచివారికిని పవిత్రులకును అపవిత్రులకును బలులర్పించువారికిని బలుల నర్పింపని వారికిని గతియొక్కటే; మంచివారికేలాగుననో పాపాత్ములకును ఆలాగుననే తటస్థించును; ఒట్టు పెట్టుకొను వారికేలాగుననో ఒట్టుకు భయపడువారికిని ఆలాగుననే జరుగును.

2. Vanity is in all. There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good, and to the bad; both to the pure, and to the impure; both to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; as is the swearer, even so is he that fears an oath.

3. అందరికిని ఒక్కటే గతి సంభవించును, సూర్యునిక్రింద జరుగువాటన్నిటిలో ఇది బహు దుఃఖ కరము, మరియు నరుల హృదయము చెడుతనముతో నిండియున్నది, వారు బ్రదుకుకాలమంతయు వారి హృదయమందు వెఱ్ఱితనముండును, తరువాత వారు మృతుల యొద్దకు పోవుదురు ఇదియును దుఃఖకరము.

3. There is this evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yea, the heart of the sons of men is filled with evil, and madness is in their heart during their life, and after that [they go] to the dead.

4. బ్రదికి యుండువారితో కలిసి మెలిసియున్నవారికి ఆశ కలదు; చచ్చిన సింహముకంటె బ్రదికియున్న కుక్క మేలు గదా.

4. For who is he that has fellowship with all the living? There is hope [for him]; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

5. బ్రదికి యుండువారు తాము చత్తురని ఎరుగుదురు. అయితే చచ్చినవారు ఏమియు ఎరుగరు; వారిపేరు మరువబడి యున్నది, వారికిక ఏ లాభమును కలుగదు.

5. For the living will know that they shall die; but the dead know nothing, and there is no longer any reward to them, for their memory is lost.

6. వారిక ప్రేమింపరు, పగపెట్టుకొనరు, అసూయపడరు, సూర్యుని క్రింద జరుగు వాటిలో దేనియందును వారికిక నెప్పటికిని వంతు లేదు.

6. Also their love and their hatred and their envy have now perished. Yea, there is no portion for them anymore, forever in all that is done under the sun.

7. నీవు పోయి సంతోషముగా నీ అన్నము తినుము, ఉల్లాసపు మనస్సుతో నీ ద్రాక్షారసము త్రాగుము; ఇది వరకే దేవుడు నీ క్రియలను అంగీకరించెను.

7. Go, eat your bread with mirth, and drink your wine with a joyful heart; for now God has favorably accepted your works.

8. ఎల్లప్పుడు తెల్లని వస్త్రములు ధరించుకొనుము, నీ తలకు నూనె తక్కువచేయకుము.

8. Let your garments be always white; and let not oil be lacking on your head.

9. దేవుడు నీకు దయచేసిన వ్యర్థమైన నీ ఆయుష్కాలమంతయు నీవు ప్రేమించు నీ భార్యతో సుఖించుము, నీ వ్యర్థమైన ఆయుష్కాలమంతయు సుఖించుము, ఈ బ్రదుకునందు నీవు కష్టపడి చేసికొనిన దాని యంతటికి అదే నీకు కలుగు భాగము.

9. And see life with the wife whom you love, all the days of the life of your vanity, which are given to you under the sun; for that is your portion in your life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.

10. చేయుటకు నీ చేతికి వచ్చిన యే పనినైనను నీ శక్తిలోపము లేకుండ చేయుము; నీవు పోవు పాతాళమునందు పనియైనను ఉపాయమైనను తెలివియైనను జ్ఞానమైనను లేదు.

10. Whatsoever your hand shall find to do, do with all your might; for there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in Hades, where you are going.

11. మరియు నేను ఆలోచింపగా సూర్యునిక్రింద జరుగు చున్నది నాకు తెలియబడెను. వడిగలవారు పరుగులో గెలువరు; బలముగలవారు యుద్ధమునందు విజయ మొందరు; జ్ఞానముగలవారికి అన్నము దొరకదు; బుద్ధిమంతులగుట వలన ఐశ్వర్యము కలుగదు; తెలివిగలవారికి అనుగ్రహము దొరకదు; ఇవియన్నియు అదృష్టవశముచేతనే కాలవశము చేతనే అందరికి కలుగుచున్నవి.

11. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor yet bread to the wise, nor yet wealth to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of knowledge; for time and chance will happen to them all.

12. తమకాలము ఎప్పుడు వచ్చునో నరులెరుగరు; చేపలు బాధకరమైన వలయందు చిక్కుబడునట్లు, పిట్టలు వలలో పట్టుబడునట్లు, అశుభ కాలమున హఠాత్తుగా తమకు చేటు కలుగునప్పుడు వారును చిక్కుపడుదురు.

12. For surely man also knows not his time; as fish that are taken in an evil net, and as birds that are caught in a snare, even thus the sons of men are snared at an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

13. మరియు నేను జరుగు దీనిని చూచి యిది జ్ఞానమని తలంచితిని, యిది నా దృష్టికి గొప్పదిగా కనబడెను.

13. This I also saw [to be] wisdom under the sun, and it is great before me.

14. ఏమనగా ఒక చిన్న పట్టణముండెను, దానియందు కొద్ది మంది కాపురముండిరి; దానిమీదికి గొప్పరాజు వచ్చి దాని ముట్టడివేసి దానియెదుట గొప్ప బురుజులు కట్టించెను;

14. [Suppose there were] a little city, and few men in it; and there should come against it a great king, and surround it, and build great mounds against it;

15. అయితే అందులో జ్ఞానముగల యొక బీదవాడుండి తన జ్ఞానముచేత ఆ పట్టణమును రక్షించెను, అయినను ఎవరును ఆ బీదవానిని జ్ఞాపకముంచుకొనలేదు.

15. and should find in it a poor wise man, and he should save the city through his wisdom: yet no man would remember that poor man.

16. కాగా నేనిట్లను కొంటిని-బలముకంటె జ్ఞానము శ్రేష్ఠమేగాని బీదవారి జ్ఞానము తృణీకరింపబడును, వారి మాటలు ఎవరును లక్ష్యము చేయరు.

16. And I said, Wisdom is better than power; yet the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not listened to.

17. బుద్ధిహీనులలో ఏలువాని కేకలకంటె మెల్లగా వినబడిన జ్ఞానుల మాటలు శ్రేష్ఠములు.

17. The words of the wise are heard in quiet more than the cry of them that rule in folly.

18. యుద్ధా యుధములకంటె జ్ఞానము శ్రేష్ఠము; ఒక పాపాత్ముడు అనేకమైన మంచి పనులను చెరుపును.

18. Wisdom is better than weapons of war; and one sinner will destroy much good.
