1. ప్రేమ కలిగియుండుటకు ప్రయాసపడుడి. ఆత్మ సంబంధమైన వరములను ఆసక్తితో అపేక్షించుడి; విశేషముగా మీరు ప్రవచనవరము అపేక్షించుడి.

1. Labour for love, and covet spiritual gifts: and most chiefly for to prophesy.

2. ఎందుకనగా భాషతో మాటలాడువాడు మనుష్యులతో కాదు దేవునితో మాటలాడుచున్నాడు; మనుష్యుడెవడును గ్రహింపడుగాని వాడు ఆత్మవలన మర్మములను పలుకు చున్నాడు.

2. For he that speaketh with tongues speaketh not unto men, but unto God. (For) No man heareth him: For(Howbeit) in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3. క్షేమాభివృద్ధియు హెచ్చరికయు ఆదరణయు కలుగునట్లు, ప్రవచించువాడు మనుష్యులతో మాట లాడుచున్నాడు.

3. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men, for their(to) edifying, (to exhortation) and(to) comfort.

4. భాషతో మాటలాడువాడు తనకే క్షేమాభివృద్ధి కలుగజేసికొనును గాని ప్రవచించువాడు సంఘమునకు క్షేమాభివృద్ధి కలుగజేయును.

4. He that speaketh with tongues, profiteth himself: he that prophesieth edifieth the congregation.

5. మీరందరు భాషలతో మాటలాడవలెనని కోరుచున్నానుగాని మీరు ప్రవచింపవలెనని మరి విశేషముగా కోరుచున్నాను. సంఘము క్షేమాభివృద్ధి పొందునిమిత్తము భాషలతో మాట లాడువాడు అర్థము చెప్పితేనేగాని వానికంటె ప్రవచించువాడే శ్రేష్ఠుడు.

5. I would that ye all spake with tongues: but rather that ye prophesied. For greater is he that prophesieth, than he that speaketh with tongues, except he expound it also, that the congregation may have edifying.

6. సహోదరులారా, ఆలోచించుడి; భాషలతో మాటలాడుచు నేను మీయొద్దకు వచ్చి సత్యమును బయలు పరచవలెననియైనను జ్ఞానోపదేశము చేయ వలెనని యైనను ప్రవచింపవలెననియైనను బోధింపవలెనని యైనను మీతో మాటలాడకపోయిన యెడల, నావలన మీకు ప్రయోజనమేమి?

6. Now brethren if I come unto you speaking with tongues: what shall I profit you? except I speak unto(to) you, either by revelation, or knowledge, or prophesying, or doctrine.

7. పిల్లనగ్రోవి గాని వీణ గాని, నిర్జీవ వస్తువులు నాదమిచ్చునప్పుడు, స్వరములలో భేదము కలుగజేయనియెడల, ఊదినదేదో మీటినదేదో యేలాగు తెలియును?

7. Moreover when things without life give sound: whether it be a pipe, or an harp: except they make a distinction in the sounds: how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

8. మరియు బూర స్పష్టముకాని ధ్వని ఇచ్చు నప్పుడు యుద్ధమునకెవడు సిద్ధపడును?

8. And also if the trumpet give an uncertain voice,(sound) who shall prepare himself to fight?(the battle)

9. ఆలాగే మీరు స్పష్టమైన మాటలు నాలుకతో పలికితేనేగాని పలికినది ఏలాగు తెలియును? మీరు గాలితో మాటలాడు చున్నట్టుందురు.

9. Even so likewise when ye speak with tongues, except ye speak words that have signification,(plain words) how shall it be understood(known) what is spoken? For ye shall but speak in the air.

10. లోకమందు ఎన్నో విధములగు భాషలున్నను వాటిలో ఒకటైనను స్పష్టముకానిదై యుండదు.

10. Many kinds of voices are in the world, and none of them are(is) without signification.

11. మాటల అర్థము నాకు తెలియకుండిన యెడల మాటలాడు వానికి నేను పరదేశినిగా ఉందును, మాటలాడువాడు నాకు పరదేశిగా ఉండును.

11. If I know not what the voice meaneth, I shall be unto him that speaketh an alien: and he that speaketh shall be an alien unto me.

12. మీరు ఆత్మసంబంధమైన వరముల విషయమై ఆసక్తిగలవారు గనుక సంఘమునకు క్షేమాభివృద్ధి కలుగునిమిత్తము అవి మీకు విస్తరించునట్లు ప్రయత్నము చేయుడి.

12. Even so ye (forasmuch as ye covet spiritual gifts) seek that ye may have plenty unto the edifying of the congregation.

13. భాషతో మాటలాడువాడు అర్థము చెప్పు శక్తికలుగుటకై ప్రార్థనచేయవలెను.

13. Wherefore let him that speaketh with tongues, pray that he may interpret also.

14. నేను భాషతో ప్రార్థన చేసినయెడల నా ఆత్మ ప్రార్థనచేయును గాని నా మనస్సు ఫలవంతముగా ఉండదు.

14. If I pray with tongues, my spirit prayeth: but my mind is without fruit.(my understanding bringeth no man fruit)

15. కాబట్టి ఆత్మతో ప్రార్థన చేతును, మనస్సుతోను ప్రార్థన చేతును; ఆత్మతో పాడుదును, మనస్సుతోను పాడుదును.

15. What is it then? (Namely thus:) I will pray with my(the) spirit, and will pray with my(the) mind(understanding) also. I will sing(sing Psalms) with my(the) spirit, and will sing with my(the) mind also.(the understanding also)

16. లేనియెడల నీవు ఆత్మతో స్తోత్రము చేసినప్పుడు ఉపదేశము పొందనివాడు నీవు చెప్పుదానిని గ్రహింపలేడు గనుక, నీవు కృతజ్ఞతాస్తుతులు చెల్లించినప్పుడు ఆమేన్‌ అని వాడేలాగు పలుకును?

16. For else when thou blessest(givest thanks) with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say amen at thy giving of thanks? seeing he understandeth not(knoweth not) what thou sayest?

17. నీవైతే బాగుగానే కృతజ్ఞతాస్తుతులు చెల్లించుచున్నావు గాని యెదుటివాడు క్షేమాభివృద్ధి పొందడు.

17. Thou verily givest thanks well: but the other is not edified.

18. నేను మీ యందరికంటె ఎక్కువగా భాషలతో మాటలాడుచున్నాను; అందుకు దేవుని స్తుతించెదను.

18. I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.

19. అయినను సంఘములో భాషతో పదివేల మాటలు పలుకుటకంటె, ఇతరులకు బోధకలుగునట్లు నా మనస్సుతో అయిదు మాటలు పలుకుట మేలు.

19. Yet had I lever in the congregation to speak five words with my mind to the information of other,(my understanding that I may enform other also)(others) rather than ten thousand words with the tongue.

20. సహోదరులారా, మీరు బుద్ధివిషయమై పసిపిల్లలు కాక దుష్టత్వము విషయమై శిశువులుగా ఉండుడి; బుద్ధి విషయమై పెద్దవారలై యుండుడి.

20. Brethren, be not children in wit:(understanding) (Howbeit) as concerning maliciousness be children: but in wit(understanding) be perfect.

21. అన్య భాషలు మాటలాడు జనులద్వారాను, పరజనుల పెదవులద్వారాను, ఈ జనులతో మాటలాడుదును; అప్పటికైనను వారు నా మాట వినకపోదురు అని ప్రభువు చెప్పుచున్నాడని ధర్మశాస్త్రములో వ్రాయ బడియున్నది.

21. In the law it is written, with other tongues, and with other lips will I speak unto this people, and yet for all that will they not hear me saith the Lord.

22. కాబట్టి భాషలు విశ్వాసులకు కాదు అవిశ్వాసులకే సూచకమైయున్నవి. ప్రవచించుట అవిశ్వాసులకు కాదు విశ్వాసులకే సూచకమై యున్నది.

22. Wherefore tongues are for a sign,(token) not to them that believe: but to them that believe not. Contrariwise prophesying serveth not for them that believe not: but for them which believe.

23. సంఘమంతయు ఏకముగా కూడి అందరు భాషలతో మాటలాడుచుండగా, ఉపదేశము పొందనివారైనను అవి శ్వాసులైనను లోపలికి వచ్చినయెడల, మీరు వెఱ్ఱిమాట లాడుచున్నారని అనుకొందురు కదా?

23. If therefore when all the congregation is come together, and all speak with tongues, there come in they that are unlearned, or they which believe not: will they not say that ye are out of your wits?

24. అయితే అందరు ప్రవచించుచుండగా అవిశ్వాసియైనను ఉపదేశము పొందని వాడైనను లోపలికి వచ్చినయెడల, అందరి బోధవలన తాను పాపినని గ్రహించి, అందరివలన విమర్శింపబడును.

24. But and if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is reproved(rebuked) of all men, and is judged of every man:

25. అప్పుడతని హృదయరహస్యములు బయలుపడును. ఇందు వలన దేవుడు నిజముగా మీలో ఉన్నాడని ప్రచురముచేయుచు అతడు సాగిలపడి దేవునికి నమస్కారము చేయును.

25. and so are the secrets of his heart opened: and then(so) falleth he down on his face, and worshippeth God, and saith that God is with you indeed.(and knowledging, that of a truth God is in you)

26. సహోదరులారా, యిప్పుడు మీలో ఏమి జరుగు చున్నది? మీరు కూడి వచ్చునప్పుడు ఒకడు ఒక కీర్తన పాడవలెనని యున్నాడు; మరియొకడు బోధింపవలెనని యున్నాడు; మరియొకడు తనకు బయలు పరచబడినది ప్రకటనచేయవలెనని యున్నాడు; మరియొకడు భాషతో మాటలాడవలెనని యున్నాడు; మరియొకడు అర్థము చెప్ప వలెనని యున్నాడు. సరే; సమస్తమును క్షేమాభివృద్ధి కలుగుటకై జరుగనియ్యుడి.

26. How is it then brethren? when ye come together every man hath his song,(psalm) hath his doctrine, hath his tongue, hath his revelation, hath his interpretation: Let all things be (done) unto edifying.

27. భాషతో ఎవడైనను మాటలాడితే, ఇద్దరు అవసరమైన యెడల ముగ్గురికి మించకుండ, వంతులచొప్పున మాటలాడవలెను, ఒకడు అర్థము చెప్ప వలెను.

27. If any man speak with tongues, let it be two at once: or at the most three at once: and that by course,(one after another) and let another interpret it:

28. అర్థము చెప్పువాడు లేనియెడల అతడు సంఘములో మౌనముగా ఉండవలెను గాని, తనతోను దేవునితోను మాటలాడుకొనవచ్చును.

28. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the congregation, and let him speak to himself, and to God.

29. ప్రవక్తలు ఇద్దరు ముగ్గురు మాటలాడవచ్చును; తక్కినవారు వివేచింపవలెను.

29. Let the prophets speak two at once, or three at once, and let other judge.

30. అయితే కూర్చున్న మరి యొకనికి ఏదైనను బయలు పరచబడిన యెడల మొదటివాడు మౌనముగా ఉండవలెను.

30. If any revelation be made to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

31. అందరు నేర్చుకొనునట్లును అందరు హెచ్చరిక పొందునట్లును మీరందరు ఒకని తరువాత ఒకడు ప్రవచింపవచ్చును.

31. For ye may all prophesy one by one,(one after another) that all may learn, and all may have comfort.

32. మరియు ప్రవక్తల ఆత్మలు ప్రవక్తల స్వాధీనములో ఉన్నవి.

32. For the spirits of the prophets are in the power of(are subject unto) the prophets.

33. ఆలాగే పరిశుద్ధుల సంఘము లన్నిటిలో దేవుడు సమాధానమునకే కర్త గాని అల్లరికి కర్త కాడు.

33. For God is not causer of strife:(is not a God of discention) but of peace, as (i teach) he is in all other congregations of the saints.

34. స్త్రీలు సంఘములలో మౌనముగా ఉండవలెను; వారు లోబడియుండవలసినదే గాని, మాటలాడుటకు వారికి సెలవు లేదు. ఈలాగు ధర్మశాస్త్రమును చెప్పుచున్నది.

34. Let your wives keep silence in the congregations. For it is not permitted unto them to speak: but let them be under obedience, as saith the law:

35. వారు ఏమైనను నేర్చుకొనగోరిన యెడల, ఇంట తమ తమ భర్తల నడుగవలెను; సంఘములో స్త్రీ మాటలాడుట అవమానము.

35. if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for(it becometh not) women to speak in the congregation.

36. దేవుని వాక్యము మీ యొద్ద నుండియే బయలువెళ్లెనా? మీయొద్దకు మాత్రమే వచ్చెనా?

36. Sprang the word of God from you? Either came it unto you only?

37. ఎవడైనను తాను ప్రవక్తననియైనను ఆత్మసంబంధినని యైనను తలంచుకొనిన యెడల, నేను మీకు వ్రాయుచున్నవి ప్రభువుయొక్క ఆజ్ఞలని అతడు దృఢముగా తెలిసికొనవలెను.

37. If any man think himself a prophet either spiritual: let him understand,(know) what things I write unto you. For they are the commandments of the Lord.

38. ఎవడైనను తెలియని వాడైతే తెలియని వాడుగానే యుండనిమ్ము.

38. But and if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39. కాబట్టి నా సహోదరులారా, ప్రవచించుట ఆసక్తితో అపేక్షించుడి, భాషలతో మాటలాడుట ఆటంకపరచకుడి గాని,

39. Wherefore brethren covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

40. సమస్తమును మర్యాదగాను క్రమముగాను జరుగ నియ్యుడి.

40. (And) Let all things be done honestly and in order. (among you)
