1. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ సైన్యములను యుద్ధమునకు సమ కూర్చి యూదా దేశములోని శోకోలో కూడి ఏఫెస్దమీ్మము దగ్గర శోకోకును అజేకాకును మధ్యను దిగి యుండగా

1. And the Philistines gathered together their hosts, unto battle, and they were gathered together unto Socoh, which belongeth unto Judah, and they encamped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim;

2. సౌలును ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును కూడివచ్చి ఏలాలోయలో దిగి ఫిలిష్తీయుల కెదురుగ యుద్ధపంక్తులు తీర్చిరి.

2. and, Saul and the men of Israel, gathered themselves together, and encamped in the vale of Elah, and set the army in array against the Philistines.

3. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఆతట్టు పర్వతము మీదను ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఈతట్టు పర్వతముమీదను నిలిచియుండగా ఉభయుల మధ్యను ఒక లోయయుండెను.

3. And, the Philistines, were standing near the hill on one side, and, the Israelites, were standing near the hill on the other side, while, the valley, was between them.

4. గాతువాడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడొకడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండులో నుండి బయలుదేరు చుండెను. అతడు ఆరుమూళ్లజేనెడు ఎత్తుమనిషి.

4. And there came forth a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath, his name, from Gath, his height, six cubits and a span;

5. అతని తలమీద రాగి శిరస్త్రాణముండెను, అతడు యుద్ధకవచము ధరించియుండెను, ఆ కవచము అయిదు వేల తులముల రాగి యెత్తుగలది.

5. with a helmet of bronze on his head, and, with a scaly coat of mail, was he clad, the weight of the coat, being five thousand shekels of bronze;

6. మరియు అతని కాళ్లకు రాగి కవచమును అతని భుజముల మధ్యను రాగి బల్లెమొకటి యుండెను.

6. and, greaves of bronze, on his feet, and, a javelin of bronze, between his shoulders;

7. అతని యీటె కఱ్ఱ నేతగాని దోనె అంత పెద్దది; మరియు అతని యీటెకొన ఆరువందల తులముల యినుము ఎత్తుగలది. ఒకడు డాలును మోయుచు అతని ముందర పోవుచుండెను.

7. and, the shaft of his spear, was like a weaver's beam, and, the flashing head of his spear, was six hundred shekels of iron, and, his shield-bearer, was coming on before him.

8. అతడు నిలిచి ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దండువారిని పిలిచియుద్ధపంక్తులు తీర్చుటకై మీ రెందుకు బయలుదేరి వచ్చితిరి?నేను ఫిలిష్తీయుడను కానా? మీరు సౌలు దాసులుకారా? మీ పక్షముగా ఒకనిని ఏర్ప రచుకొని అతని నాయొద్దకు పంపుడి;

8. And he took his stand, and cried unto the ranks of Israel, and said unto them, Wherefore should ye come out, to set in array for battle? Am not, I, a Philistine, while, ye, are servants unto Saul? Choose you a man, and let him come down unto me:

9. If he prevail in fighting with me, and smite me, then will we become your servants, but, if, I, prevail over him, and smite him, then shall ye become our servants, and serve, us.

10. ఈ దినమున నేను ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యములను తిరస్కరించుచున్నాను. ఒకని నియమించిన యెడల వాడును నేనును పోట్లాడుదుమని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు చెప్పుచువచ్చెను.

10. And the Philistine said I, reproach the ranks of Israel, this day, give me a man, that we may fight together.

11. సౌలును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని మాటలు వినినప్పుడు బహు భీతులైరి.

11. When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and feared exceedingly.

12. దావీదు యూదా బేత్లెహేమువాడగు ఎఫ్రాతీయు డైన యెష్షయి అనువాని కుమారుడు. యెష్షయికి ఎనమండు గురు కుమాళ్లుండిరి. అతడు సౌలు కాలమందు జనులలో ముసలివాడై యుండెను.

12. Now, David, was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-judah, whose, name, was Jesse, and, who, had eight sons, and, the man, in the days of Saul was old, advanced in years.

13. అయితే యెష్షయియొక్క ముగ్గురు పెద్దకుమారులు యుద్ధమునకు సౌలువెంటను పోయి యుండిరి. యుద్ధమునకు పోయిన అతని ముగ్గురు కుమా రుల పేరులు ఏవనగా, జ్యేష్ఠుడు ఏలీయాబు, రెండవవాడు అబీనాదాబు, మూడవవాడు షమ్మా,

13. And the three eldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle, and, the names of his three sons who went into the battle, were Eliab the firstborn, and, the next to him, Abinadab, and, the third, Shammah.

14. దావీదు కనిష్ఠుడు; పెద్దవారైన ముగ్గురు సౌలువెంటను పోయి యుండిరిగాని

14. But, as for David, he, was the youngest, and, the three eldest, followed Saul;

15. దావీదు బేత్లెహేములోతన తండ్రి గొఱ్ఱెలను మేపుచు సౌలునొద్దకు తిరిగి పోవుచు వచ్చుచు నుండెను.

15. whereas, David, kept going and returning from Saul, to tend his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

16. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఉదయమునను సాయంత్రమునను బయలు దేరుచు నలువది దినములు తన్ను తాను అగుపరచుకొనుచు వచ్చెను.

16. And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

17. యెష్షయి తన కుమారుడైన దావీదును పిలిచినీ సహోదరులకొరకు వేయించిన యీ గోధుమలలో ఒక తూమెడును ఈ పది రొట్టెలను తీసికొని దండులో నున్న నీ సహోదరులదగ్గరకు త్వరగా పొమ్ము.

17. And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, unto thy brethren this ephah of parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp unto thy brethren;

18. మరియు ఈ పది జున్నుగడ్డలు తీసికొని పోయి వారి సహస్రాధిపతికిమ్ము; నీ సహోదరులు క్షేమముగా నున్నారో లేదో సంగతి తెలిసికొని వారియొద్దనుండి ఆనవాలొకటి తీసికొని రమ్మనిచెప్పి పంపివేసెను.

18. also these ten slices of soft cheese, shalt thou take to the captain of their thousand, and, as for thy brethren, give good heed to their welfare, their pledge, also shalt thou receive.

19. సౌలును వారును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఏలా లోయలో ఫిలిష్తీయులతో యుద్ధము చేయుచుండగా

19. Now, Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the vale of Elah, ready to fight with the Philistines.

20. దావీదు ఉదయమున లేచి ఒక కాపరికి గొఱ్ఱెలను అప్పగించి ఆ వస్తువులను తీసికొని యెష్షయి తన కిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞ చొప్పున ప్రయాణమైపోయెను; అయితే అతడు కందకమునకు వచ్చునప్పటికి వారును వీరును పంక్తులుగా తీరి, జయము జయమని అరుచుచు యుద్ధమునకు సాగుచుండిరి.

20. So then David rose up early in the morning, and entrusted the sheep to a keeper, and took up the provisions and went his way, as Jesse had commanded him, and came into the circular rampart, as, the force, was going forth into the ranks, and shouted for the fight.

21. సైన్యము సైన్యమునకు ఎదురై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును ఫిలిష్తీయులును యుద్ధసన్న ద్ధులై బయలుదేరు చుండిరి.

21. So Israel and the Philistines set in array for battle, army against army.

22. దావీదు తాను తెచ్చిన వస్తువులను సామగ్రిని కనిపెట్టువాని వశము చేసి, పరు గెత్తిపోయి సైన్యములో చొచ్చి కుశలప్రశ్నలు తన సహోదరుల నడిగెను.

22. Then David entrusted the provisions that were upon him to the care of the keeper of the stores, and ran unto the ranks, and came and asked for the welfare of his brethren.

23. అతడు వారితో మాటలాడు చుండగా గాతు ఫిలిష్తీయుడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల సైన్యములోనుండి వచ్చి పై చెప్పిన మాటల చొప్పున పలుకగా దావీదు వినెను.

23. Now, as he was speaking with them, lo! the champion coming up, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, coming up out of the ranks of the Philistines, and he spake according to these words, and David heard them .

24. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరు ఆ మనుష్యుని చూచి మిక్కిలి భయపడి వాని యెదుటనుండి పారిపోగా

24. Now, all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and feared exceedingly.

25. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడువచ్చుచున్న ఆ మనిషిని చూచితిరే; నిజముగా ఇశ్రా యేలీయులను తిరస్కరించుటకై వాడు బయలుదేరు చున్నాడు, వానిని చంపినవానికి రాజు బహుగ ఐశ్వర్యము కలుగజేసి తన కుమార్తెనిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేసి వాని తండ్రి ఇంటి వారిని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో స్వతంత్రులుగా చేయుననగా

25. And the men of Israel said Have ye seen this man that is coming up? For, to reproach Israel, is he coming. So then it shall be, that, the man that shall smite him, the same, will the king enrich with great riches, and, his own daughter, will give him, and, his father's house, will he make free in Israel.

26. దావీదుజీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించుటకు ఈ సున్నతి లేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఎంతటి వాడు? వాని చంపి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులనుండి యీ నింద తొలగించిన వానికి బహుమతి యేమని తనయొద్ద నిలిచినవారి నడుగగా

26. Then spake David unto the men that were standing by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that shall smite yonder Philistine, and so shall take away reproach from off Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God?

27. జనులువాని చంపినవానికి ఇట్లిట్లు చేయ బడునని అతని కుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

27. And the people answered him, according to this word saying, So, shall it be done to the man that shall smite him.

28. అతడు వారితో మాటలాడునది అతని పెద్దన్న యగు ఏలీయాబునకు వినబడగా ఏలీయాబునకు దావీదు మీద కోపమువచ్చి అతనితోనీవిక్కడి కెందుకు వచ్చితివి? అరణ్యములోని ఆ చిన్న గొఱ్ఱె మందను ఎవరి వశము చేసితివి? నీ గర్వమును నీ హృదయపు చెడుతనమును నేనెరుగుదును; యుద్ధము చూచుటకే గదా నీవు వచ్చితి వనెను.

28. Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men, then was kindled the anger of Eliab against David, and he said Wherefore is it that thou hast come down? and to whom hast thou entrusted those few sheep in the wilderness? I, know thy pride, and the foolishness of thy heart, for, to see the battle, hast thou come down.

29. అందుకు దావీదునేనేమి చేసితిని? మాట మాత్రము పలికితినని చెప్పి

29. And David said, What have I done, now? Was there not, a cause?

30. అతనియొద్దనుండి తొలగి, తిరిగి మరియొకని ఆ ప్రకారమే యడుగగా జనులు వానికి అదేప్రకారము ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

30. Then turned he from him unto another, and said according to this word, and the people returned him an answer, like the first.

31. దావీదు చెప్పిన మాటలు నలుగురికిని తెలియగా జనులు ఆ సంగతి సౌలుతో తెలియ జెప్పిరి గనుక అతడు దావీదును పిలువ నంపెను.

31. And the words which David spake were overheard, and, when they told them before Saul, he summoned him.

32. ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయునిబట్టి యెవరిమనస్సును క్రుంగ నిమిత్తము లేదు. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను వానితో పోట్లాడుదునని దావీదు సౌలుతో అనగా

32. And David said unto Saul, Let not the heart of my lord fail, because of him, thy servant, will go, and fight with this Philistine.

33. సౌలుఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఎదుర్కొని వానితో పోట్లాడుటకు నీకు బలము చాలదు; నీవు బాలుడవు, వాడు బాల్యమునుండి యుద్ధాభ్యాసము చేసినవాడని దావీదుతో అనెను.

33. And Saul said unto David Thou art not able to go against this Philistine, to fight with him, for, a youth, art, thou, but, he, a man of war, from his youth.

34. అందుకు దావీదు సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుమీ దాసుడనైన నేను నా తండ్రియొక్క గొఱ్ఱెలను కాయుచుండ సింహమును ఎలుగుబంటియును వచ్చి మందలోనుండి ఒక గొఱ్ఱె పిల్లను ఎత్తికొని పోవుచుండగ.

34. Then said David unto Saul, Thy servant used to tend his father's sheep, and there would come a lion, or a bear, and carry off a lamb out of the flock;

35. నేను దానిని తరిమి చంపి దాని నోటనుండి ఆ గొఱ్ఱెను విడిపించితిని; అది నా మీదికి రాగా దాని గడ్డము పట్టుకొని దానిని కొట్టి చంపితిని.

35. and I would go out after him, and smite him, and rescue it out of his mouth, and, if he rose against me, I would catch him by his beard, and smite him, and slay him.

36. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను ఆ సింహమును ఎలుగు బంటిని చంపితినే, జీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించిన యీ సున్నతిలేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు వాటిలో ఒకదానివలె అగుననియు,

36. Thy servant could slay, either a lion or a bear, and, this uncircumcised Philistine, shall become, as one of them, for he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God.

37. సింహముయొక్క బలమునుండియు, ఎలుగుబంటి యొక్క బలమునుండియు నన్ను రక్షించిన యెహోవా ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని చేతిలోనుండికూడను నన్ను విడిపించుననియు చెప్పెను. అందుకు సౌలుపొమ్ము; యెహోవా నీకు తోడుగానుండునుగాక అని దావీదుతో అనెను.

37. And David said, Yahweh, who hath rescued me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, he, will rescue us out of the hand of this Philistine. Then said Saul unto David Go! and, Yahweh, will be with thee.

38. పిమ్మట సౌలు తన యుద్ధవస్త్రములను దావీదునకు ధరింపజేసి, రాగి శిరస్త్రాణమొకటి అతనికి కట్టి, యుద్ధకవ చము తొడిగించెను.

38. And Saul clad David with his own military coat, and set a helmet of bronze upon his head, and clad him with a coat of mail.

39. ఈ సామగ్రి దావీదునకు వాడుకలేదు గనుక తాను తొడిగిన వాటిపైన కత్తి కట్టుకొని వెళ్ల కలిగినది లేనిది చూచుకొనిన తరువాత దావీదుఇవి నాకు వాడుకలేదు, వీటితో నేను వెళ్లలేనని సౌలుతో చెప్పి వాటిని తీసివేసి

39. And David girded his sword above his military coat, but was reluctant to go, for he had not proved them, so David said unto Saul I cannot go in these, for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

40. తన కఱ్ఱ చేత పట్టుకొని యేటి లోయలో నుండి అయిదు నున్నని రాళ్లను ఏరుకొని తనయొద్దనున్న చిక్కములో నుంచుకొని వడిసెల చేత పట్టుకొని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని చేరువకు పోయెను.

40. Then took he his stick in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the torrent-bed, and put them in the shepherd's-pouch which he had even in the wallet, and had his sling in his hand, and so drew near unto the Philistine.

41. డాలు మోయువాడు తనకు ముందు నడువగా ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు బయలుదేరి దావీదు దగ్గరకువచ్చి

41. And the Philistine came on and on, and drew near unto David, and the man carrying the shield was before him.

42. చుట్టు పారచూచి దావీదును కనుగొని, అతడు బాలుడై యెఱ్ఱటివాడును రూపసియునై యుండుట చూచి అతని తృణీకరించెను.

42. And, when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him, for he was a youth, and ruddy, a stripling of fair countenance.

43. ఫిలిష్తీయుడుకఱ్ఱ తీసి కొని నీవు నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావే, నేను కుక్కనా? అని దావీదుతో చెప్పి తన దేవతల పేరట దావీదును శపించెను.

43. Then said the Philistine unto David, A dog, am, I, that thou art coming unto me, with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David, by his god.

44. నా దగ్గరకు రమ్ము, నీ మాంసమును ఆకాశ పక్షులకును భూమృగముల కును ఇచ్చివేతునని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు దావీదుతో అనగా

44. And the Philistine said unto David, Come, unto me, that I may give thy flesh to the birds of heaven, and to the beasts of the field.

45. దావీదునీవు కత్తియు ఈటెయు బల్లెమును ధరించుకొని నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావు అయితే నీవు తిరస్కరించిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యములకధిపతియగు యెహోవా పేరట నేను నీమీదికి వచ్చుచున్నాను.

45. Then said David unto the Philistine Thou, art coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with javelin, but, I, am coming unto thee in the name of Yahweh of hosts, God of the ranks of Israel which thou hast reproached.

46. ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను నా చేతికి అప్పగించును; నేను నిన్ను చంపి నీ తల తెగవేతును; ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో దేవుడున్నాడని లోక నివాసులందరును తెలిసికొనునట్లు నేను ఈ దినమున ఫిలిష్తీయులయొక్క కళేబరములను ఆకాశపక్షులకును భూమృగములకును ఇత్తును.

46. This day, will Yahweh deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee, and will give thy dead body and the dead bodies of the host of Philistines, this day, unto the birds of heaven, and unto the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that Israel hath a God;

47. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కత్తి చేతను ఈటెచేతను రక్షించువాడుకాడని యీ దండువా రందరు తెలిసికొందురు; యుద్ధము యెహోవాదే; ఆయన మిమ్మును మా చేతికి అప్పగించునని చెప్పెను.

47. and that all this gathered host may know that, not with sword and with spear, doth Yahweh save, for, unto Yahweh, belongeth the battle, and he will deliver you into our hand.

48. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు లేచి దావీదును కలియుటకై అతనికి ఎదురుపోగా దావీదు వానిని ఎదుర్కొనుటకు సైన్యముతట్టు త్వరగా పరుగెత్తిపోయి

48. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the ranks to meet the Philistine.

49. తన సంచిలో చెయ్యివేసి అందులోనుండి రాయి యొకటి తీసి వడిసెలతో విసరి ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయునినుదుట కొట్టెను. ఆ రాయి వాని నుదురుచొచ్చినందున వాడు నేలను బోర్లపడెను.

49. And David thrust his hand into his pouch, and took from thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine, in his forehead, that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face, to the earth.

50. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికంటె బలాఢ్యుడై ఖడ్గము లేకయే వడిసెలతోను రాతితోను ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని కొట్టి చంపెను.

50. Thus David prevailed over the Philistine, with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him, but, sword, was there none in the hand of David.

51. వాడు బోర్లపడగా దావీదు పరుగెత్తిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయునిమీద నిలుచుండి వాని కత్తి వర దూసి దానితో వాని చంపి వాని తలను తెగవేసెను. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ శూరుడు చచ్చుట చూచి పారి పోయిరి.

51. So David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off, therewith, his head, and, when the Philistines saw that their hero was slain, they fled.

52. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలువారును యూదావారును లేచిజయము జయమని అరచుచు లోయవరకును షరా యిము ఎక్రోనువరకును ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుమగా ఫిలిష్తీ యులు హతులై షరాయిము ఎక్రోను మార్గమున గాతు ఎక్రోను అను పట్టణములవరకు కూలిరి.

52. Then arose the men of Israel and Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, as far as the entrance into Gath, and as far as the gates of Ekron, and the slain of the Philistines fell in the way to the two gates, even as far as Gath and as far as Ekron.

53. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగి వచ్చి వారి డేరాలను దోచుకొనిరి.

53. And the sons of Israel returned from hotly pursuing the Philistines, and plundered their camps.

54. అయితే దావీదు ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని ఆయుధములను తన డేరాలో ఉంచుకొని అతని తలను తీసికొని యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చెను.

54. And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it into Jerusalem, but, his armour, put he into his tent.

55. సౌలు దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికి ఎదురుగా పోవుట చూచినప్పుడు తన సైన్యాధిపతియైన అబ్నేరును పిలిచి అబ్నేరూ, ఈ ¸యౌవనుడు ఎవని కుమారుడని అడుగగా అబ్నేరురాజా, నీ ప్రాణముతోడు నాకు తెలియదనెను.

55. And, when Saul saw David going forth to meet the Philistine, he said unto Abner, prince of the host, Whose son is the young man, Abner? And Abner said, By the life of thy soul, O king! I know not.

56. అందుకు రాజుఈ పడుచువాడు ఎవని కుమా రుడో అడిగి తెలిసికొమ్మని అతనికి ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

56. Then said the king, Ask, thou, whose son the stripling is?

57. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుని చంపి తిరిగి వచ్చినప్పుడు అబ్నేరు అతని పిలుచుకొనిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయుని తల చేతనుండగా అతని సౌలు దగ్గరకు తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

57. And, when David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

58. సౌలు అతనిని చూచిచిన్నవాడా, నీవెవని కుమారుడవని అడుగగాదావీదునేను బేత్లెహేమీయుడైన యెష్షయి అను నీ దాసుని కుమారుడనని ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

58. And Saul said unto him, Whose son art, thou, O young man? And David said, Son of thy servant Jesse, the Bethlehemite.
