1. దావీదు సౌలుతో మాటలాడుట చాలించినప్పుడు యోనాతాను హృదయము దావీదు హృదయముతో కలిసిపోయెను; యోనాతాను దావీదును తనకు ప్రాణ స్నేహితునిగా భావించుకొని అతని ప్రేమించెను.

1. And when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, the soul of Jonathas was knit with the soul of David. Insomuch that he loved him as his own soul.

2. ఆ దినమున అతని తండ్రి ఇంటికి తిరిగి అతని వెళ్లనియ్యక సౌలు అతనిని చేర్చుకొనెను.

2. And Saul took him that day and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

3. దావీదు తనకు ప్రాణ స్నేహితుడని భావించుకొని అతనిని ప్రేమించుచు యోనాతాను అతనితో నిబంధనచేసికొనెను.

3. And Jonathas and David bound themselves the one to the other, for Jonathas loved him as his own soul.

4. మరియు యోనాతాను తన దుప్పటిని తన కత్తిని తన విల్లును నడికట్టును తీసి దావీదున కిచ్చెను.

4. And Jonathas put off his own coat that was upon him, and gave it David, and thereto his mantle, his sword, his bow and his girdle.

5. దావీదు సౌలు తనను పంపిన చోట్లకెల్లను పోయి, సుబుద్ధిగలిగి పని చేసికొని వచ్చెను గనుక సౌలు యోధులమీద అతనిని నియమించెను. జనులందరి దృష్టికిని సౌలు సేవకుల దృష్టికిని దావీదు అను కూలుడై యుండెను.

5. And David went out to all that Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely. And when Saul had set him over his men of war, he pleased all the people, and Saul's servants thereto.

6. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుని హతముచేసి తిరిగి వచ్చినప్పుడు, స్త్రీలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల ఊళ్లన్నిటిలోనుండి తంబురల తోను సంభ్రమముతోను వాద్యములతోను పాడుచు నాట్యమాడుచు రాజైన సౌలును ఎదుర్కొనుటకై వచ్చిరి

6. And it happened as they went, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that women came out of all cities of Israel singing and dancing, against Saul, with timbrels, with joy, and with fiddles.

7. ఆ స్త్రీలు గాన ప్రతిగానములు చేయుచు వాయించుచుసౌలు వేలకొలదియు, దావీదు పదివేలకొలదియు (శత్రువులను) హతము చేసిరనిరి.

7. And the women that played sang thereto, and said: Saul hath slain his thousand, and David his ten thousand.

8. ఆ మాటలు సౌలునకు ఇంపుగా నుండనందున అతడు బహు కోపము తెచ్చుకొనివారు దావీదునకు పదివేలకొలది అనియు, నాకు వేలకొలది అనియు స్తుతులు పాడిరే; రాజ్యము తప్ప మరి ఏమి అతడు తీసికొనగలడు అను కొనెను

8. Then was Saul exceeding wroth and that saying displeased him, and he said: they have ascribed unto David ten thousand, and to me but a thousand. And what can he more have save the kingdom?

9. కాబట్టి నాటనుండి సౌలు దావీదుమీద విషపు చూపు నిలిపెను.

9. Wherefore Saul looked on side of David from that day forward.

10. మరునాడు దేవునియొద్దనుండి దురాత్మ సౌలుమీదికి బలముగా వచ్చినందున అతడు ఇంటిలో ప్రవచించు చుండగా దావీదు మునుపటిలాగున వీణచేత పట్టుకొని వాయించెను.

10. And it happened on the morrow, that the evil spirit sent of God came upon Saul, so that he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David played on the instrument with his hand as he was daily wont.

11. ఒకప్పుడు సౌలు చేతిలో నొక యీటె యుండగాదావీదును పొడిచి గోడకు బిగించుదుననుకొని సౌలు ఆ యీటెను విసిరెను. అయితే అది తగలకుండ దావీదు రెండు మారులు తప్పించు కొనెను.

11. And Saul had a spear in his hand, and hurled it intending to to have nailed David to the wall. But David avoided out of his presence two times.

12. యెహోవా తనను విడిచి దావీదునకు తోడై యుండుట చూచి సౌలు దావీదునకు భయపడెను.

12. For Saul was afeard of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

13. కాబట్టి సౌలు అతని తనయొద్ద నుండనియ్యక సహస్రాధిపతిగా చేసెను; అతడు జనులకు ముందువచ్చుచు పోవుచు నుండెను.

13. And then Saul put David from him and made him a captain over a thousand, and he went out and in before the people.

14. మరియు దావీదు సమస్త విషయములలో సుబుద్ధిగలిగి ప్రవర్తింపగాయెహోవా అతనికి తోడుగా నుండెను.

14. And David was wise in all that he took in hand, and the LORD was with him.

15. దావీదు మిగుల సుబుద్ధిగలవాడై ప్రవర్తించుట సౌలు చూచి మరి యధికముగా అతనికి భయపడెను.

15. Wherefore when Saul saw that he was so exceeding wise, he was afraid of him.

16. ఇశ్రాయేలు వారితోను యూదావారి తోను దావీదు జనులకు ముందువచ్చుచు, పోవుచునుండుటచేత వారు అతనిని ప్రేమింపగా

16. But all Israel and Juda loved David, because he went out and in before them.

17. సౌలునా చెయ్యి వానిమీద పడకూడదు, ఫిలిష్తీయుల చెయ్యి వానిమీద పడును గాక అనుకొనిదావీదూ, నా పెద్ద కుమార్తెయైన మేరబును నీకిత్తును; నీవు నా పట్ల యుద్ధ శాలివై యుండి యెహోవా యుద్ధములను జరిగింపవలె ననెను.

17. Then said Saul to David. Behold my eldest daughter Merob, her I will give thee to wife: Only play the man and fight the LORD's battles. For Saul thought mine hand shall not be upon him, but the hand of the Philistines.

18. అందుకు దావీదురాజునకు అల్లుడనగుటకు నేనెంతటివాడను? నా స్థితియైనను ఇశ్రాయేలులో నా తండ్రి కుటుంబమైనను ఏపాటివని సౌలుతో అనెను.

18. And David answered Saul: what am I? and what is my life or the kindred of my father in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king:

19. అయితే సౌలు కుమార్తెయైన మేరబును దావీదునకు ఇయ్య వలసి యుండగా సౌలు ఆమెను మెహోలతీయుడైన అద్రీయేలుకిచ్చి పెండ్లి చేసెను.

19. How be it when the time was come that Merob Saul's daughter should have been given to David she was given unto Adziel a Neholothite, to wife.

20. అయితే తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలు దావీదు మీద ప్రేమ గలిగియుండగా సౌలు విని సంతోషించి,

20. How be it Michol Saul's daughter loved David. And when it was shewed Saul: the thing pleased him well.

21. ఆమె అతనికి ఉరిగానుండునట్లును ఫిలిష్తీయుల చెయ్యి అతనిమీద నుండునట్లును నేను ఆమెను అతనికి ఇత్తుననుకొనిఇప్పుడు నీవు మరి యొకదానిచేత నాకు అల్లుడవగుదువని దావీదుతో చెప్పి

21. And he said: I will give him her that she may be a snare to him, to bring the hand of the Philistines upon him. And Saul said to David: thou shalt this day be my son-in-law again.

22. తన సేవకులను పిలిపించిమీరు దావీదుతో రహస్యముగా మాటలాడిరాజు నీయందు ఇష్టము గలిగియున్నాడు, అతని సేవకులందరును నీయెడల స్నేహముగా నున్నారు, కాబట్టి నీవు రాజునకు అల్లుడవు కావలెనని చెప్పవలెనని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

22. And Saul commanded his servants to commune with David secretly and say: Behold the king hath a favour to thee, and all his servants love thee, be therefore the king's son-in-law.

23. సౌలు సేవకులు ఆ మాటలనుబట్టి దావీదుతో సంభాషింపగా దావీదునేను దరిద్రుడనైయెన్నిక లేని వాడనై యుండగా రాజునకు అల్లుడనగుట స్వల్ప విషయమని మీకు తోచునా? అని వారితో అనగా

23. And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. But David answered: seemeth it to you a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, when I am a poor man and of small reputation?

24. సౌలు సేవకులు దావీదు పలికిన మాటలు అతనికి తెలియ జేసిరి.

24. And Saul's servants told him again saying: of this manner answered David.

25. అందుకు సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులచేత దావీదును పడ గొట్టవలెనన్న తాత్పర్యము గలవాడైరాజు ఓలిని కోరక రాజు శత్రువులమీద పగతీర్చుకొనవలెనని ఫిలిష్తీయుల నూరు ముందోళ్లు కోరుచున్నాడని దావీదుతో చెప్పుడనెను.

25. Then said Saul: this wise say to David: the king careth for no other dowry but for an hundredth foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. For Saul thought to make David fall into the hands of the Philistines.

26. సౌలు సేవకులు ఆ మాటలు దావీదునకు తెలియ జేయగా తాను రాజునకు అల్లుడు కావలెనన్న కోరిక గలవాడై

26. Then his servants told David these words, and it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law.

27. గడువుదాటక మునుపే లేచి తనవారితో పోయి ఫిలిష్తీయులలో రెండువందల మందిని హతముచేసి వారి ముందోళ్లు తీసికొనివచ్చి రాజునకు అల్లుడగుటకై కావలసిన లెక్క పూర్తిచేసి అప్పగింపగా సౌలు తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలును అతనికిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేసెను.

27. And shortly after that David arose with his men, and went, and slew of the Philistines, two hundredth men, and brought their foreskins, and satisfied the king thereof to be his son-in-law. And so Saul gave him Michol his daughter to wife.

28. యెహోవా దావీదునకు తోడుగా నుండుటయు, తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలు అతని ప్రేమించుటయు సౌలు చూచి

28. And when Saul saw and understood, how that the LORD was with David, and that Michol his daughter loved him,

29. దావీదునకు మరి యెక్కువగా భయపడి, యెల్లప్పుడును దావీదు మీద విరోధముగా ఉండెను.

29. he was the more afraid of David, and became David's enemy for ever.

30. ఫలిష్తీయుల సర్దారులు యుద్ధమునకు బయలు దేరుచు వచ్చిరి. వారు బయలుదేరినప్పుడెల్లను దావీదు బహు వివే కము గలిగి ప్రవర్తించుచు రాగా సౌలు సేవకులందరికంటె అతని పేరు బహు ప్రసిద్ధికెక్కెను.

30. And when the Philistines went out to war, David behaved himself wiselier than all the servants of Saul: so that his name was much set by.
