1. దావీదు నోబులో యాజకుడైన అహీమెలెకు నొద్దకు వచ్చెను; అయితే అహీమెలెకు దావీదు రాకకు భయపడినీవు ఒంటరిగా వచ్చితివేమని అతని నడుగగా

1. Then David departed on his way, while Jonathan went back into the city.

2. దావీదురాజు నాకు ఒక పని నిర్ణయించినేను నీ కాజ్ఞాపించి పంపినపని యేదో అదెవనితోనైనను చెప్పవద్దనెను; నేను నా పనివారిని ఒకానొక చోటికి వెళ్ల నిర్ణయించితిని;

2. David went to Ahimelech, the priest of Nob, who came trembling to meet him and asked, 'Why are you alone? Is there no one with you?'

3. నీయొద్ద ఏమి యున్నది? అయిదు రొట్టెలుగాని మరేమియుగాని యుండిన యెడల అది నా కిమ్మని యాజకుడైన అహీమెలెకుతో అనగా

3. David answered the priest: 'The king gave me a commission and told me to let no one know anything about the business on which he sent me or the commission he gave me. For that reason I have arranged a meeting place with my men.

4. యాజకుడుసాధారణమైన రొట్టె నాయొద్ద లేదు; పనివారు స్త్రీలకు ఎడముగా నున్నవారైతే ప్రతిష్ఠితమైన రొట్టెలు కలవని దావీదుతో అనెను.

4. Now what have you on hand? Give me five loaves, or whatever you can find.'

5. అందుకు దావీదునిజముగా నేను బయలుదేరి వచ్చినప్పటినుండి ఈ మూడు దినములు స్త్రీలు మాకు దూరముగానే యున్నారు; పని వారిబట్టలు పవిత్రములే; ఒకవేళ మేముచేయుకార్యము అపవిత్రమైనయెడల నేమి? రాజాజ్ఞనుబట్టి అది పవిత్రముగా ఎంచతగును అని యాజకునితో అనెను.

5. But the priest replied to David, 'I have no ordinary bread on hand, only holy bread; if the men have abstained from women, you may eat some of that.'

6. అంతట యెహోవా సన్నిధినుండి తీసివేయబడిన సన్నిధి రొట్టెలు తప్ప అక్కడ వేరు రొట్టెలు లేకపోగా, వెచ్చనిరొట్టెలు వేయు దినమందు తీసివేయబడిన ప్రతిష్ఠితమైన రొట్టెలను యాజకుడు అతని కిచ్చెను.

6. David answered the priest: 'We have indeed been segregated from women as on previous occasions. Whenever I go on a journey, all the young men are consecrated-- even for a secular journey. All the more so today, when they are consecrated at arms!'

7. ఆ దినమున సౌలుయొక్క సేవకులలో ఒకడు అక్కడ యెహోవా సన్నిధిని ఉండెను; అతని పేరు దోయేగు, అతడు ఎదోమీయుడు. అతడు సౌలు పసుల కాపరులకు పెద్ద

7. So the priest gave him holy bread, for no other bread was on hand except the showbread which had been removed from the LORD'S presence and replaced by fresh bread when it was taken away.

8. రాజు పని వేగిరముగా జరుగవలెనని యెరిగి నా ఖడ్గమునైనను ఆయుధములనైనను నేను తేలేదు. ఇక్కడ నీయొద్ద ఖడ్గమైనను ఈటెయైనను ఉన్నదా అని దావీదు అహీమెలెకు నడుగగా

8. One of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; his name was Doeg the Edomite, and he was Saul's chief henchman.

9. యాజ కుడుఏలా లోయలో నీవు చంపిన గొల్యాతు అను ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఖడ్గమున్నది, అదిగో బట్టతో చుట్టబడి ఏఫోదువెనుక ఉన్నది, అది తప్ప ఇక్కడ మరి ఏ ఖడ్గ మునులేదు, దాని తీసికొనుటకు నీకిష్టమైన యెడల తీసికొను మనగా దావీదుదానికి సమమైనదొకటియు లేదు, నా కిమ్మనెను.

9. David then asked Ahimelech: 'Do you have a spear or a sword on hand? I brought along neither my sword nor my weapons, because the king's business was urgent.'

10. అంతట దావీదు సౌలునకు భయపడినందున ఆ దినముననే లేచి పారిపోయి గాతురాజైన ఆకీషునొద్దకువచ్చెను.

10. The priest replied: 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Vale of the Terebinth, is here (wrapped in a mantle) behind an ephod. If you wish to take that, take it; there is no sword here except that one.' David said: 'There is none to match it. Give it to me!'

11. ఆకీషు సేవకులుఈ దావీదు ఆ దేశపు రాజు కాడా? వారు నాట్యమాడుచు గానప్రతిగానములు చేయుచు సౌలు వేలకొలది హతముచేసెననియు, దావీదు పదివేలకొలది హతముచేసెననియు పాడిన పాటలు ఇతనిగూర్చినవే గదా అని అతనినిబట్టి రాజుతో మాటలాడగా

11. That same day David took to flight from Saul, going to Achish, king of Gath.

12. దావీదు ఈ మాటలు తన మనస్సులోనుంచుకొని గాతు రాజైన ఆకీషునకు బహు భయపడెను.

12. But the servants of Achish said, 'Is this not David, the king of the land? During their dances do they not sing, 'Saul has slain his thousands, but David his ten thousands'?'

13. కాబట్టి దావీదు వారి యెదుట తన చర్య మార్చుకొని వెఱ్ఱివానివలె నటించుచు, ద్వారపు తలుపుల మీద గీతలు గీయుచు, ఉమ్మి తన గడ్డముమీదికి కారనిచ్చుచు నుండెను. వారతని పట్టుకొనిపోగా అతడు పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయుచు వచ్చెను.

13. David took note of these remarks and became very much afraid of Achish, king of Gath.

14. కావున ఆకీషురాజుమీరు చూచితిరికదా? వానికి పిచ్చిపట్టినది, నాయొద్దకు వీని నెందుకు తీసికొని వచ్చితిరి?

14. So, as they watched, he feigned insanity and acted like a madman in their hands, drumming on the doors of the gate and drooling onto his beard.

15. పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయు వారితో నాకేమి పని? నా సన్నిధిని పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయుటకు వీని తీసికొని వచ్చితిరేమి? వీడు నా నగరిలోనికి రాతగునా? అని తన సేవకులతో అనెను.

15. Finally Achish said to his servants: 'You see the man is mad. Why did you bring him to me?
