1. సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగిరాగా దావీదు ఏన్గెదీ అరణ్యమందున్నాడని అతనికి వర్తమానము వచ్చెను.

1. When Saul got back from fighting off the Philistines, he heard that David was in the desert around En-Gedi.

2. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరిలోనుండి మూడు వేలమందిని ఏర్పరచుకొని వచ్చి, కొండమేకలకు వాసములగు శిలాపర్వతములమీద దావీదును అతని జనులను వెదకుటకై బయలుదేరెను.

2. Saul led three thousand of Israel's best soldiers out to look for David and his men near Wild Goat Rocks at En-Gedi.

3. మార్గముననున్న గొఱ్ఱె దొడ్లకు అతడు రాగా అక్కడ గుహ యొకటి కనబడెను. అందులో సౌలు శంకానివర్తికి పోగా దావీదును అతని జనులును ఆ గుహ లోపలిభాగములలో ఉండిరి గనుక

3. There were some sheep pens along the side of the road, and one of them was built around the entrance to a cave. Saul went into the cave to relieve himself. David and his men were hiding at the back of the cave.

4. దావీదు జనులు అదిగోనీ దృష్టికి ఏది మంచిదో అది నీవు అతనికి చేయునట్లు నీ శత్రువుని నీ చేతికి అప్పగింతు నని యెహోవా నీతో చెప్పిన దినము వచ్చెనని అతనితో అనగా; దావీదు లేచి వచ్చి సౌలునకు తెలియకుండ అతని పైవస్త్రపు చెంగును కోసెను.

4. They whispered to David, 'The LORD told you he was going to let you defeat your enemies and do whatever you want with them. This must be the day the LORD was talking about.' David sneaked over and cut off a small piece of Saul's robe, but Saul didn't notice a thing.

5. సౌలు పైవస్త్రమును తాను కోసెనని దావీదు మనస్సు నొచ్చి

5. Afterwards, David was sorry that he had even done that,

6. ఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక యెహోవాచేత అభిషిక్తుడైన నా ప్రభువునకు నేను ఈ కార్యము చేయను, యెహోవానుబట్టి అతని నేను చంపను అని తన జనులతో చెప్పెను.

6. and he told his men, 'Stop talking foolishly. We're not going to attack Saul. He's my king, and I pray that the LORD will keep me from doing anything to harm his chosen king.' Saul left the cave and started down the road.

7. ఈ మాటలు చెప్పి దావీదు తన జనులను అడ్డగించి సౌలు మీదికి పోనియ్యక వారిని ఆపెను. తరువాత సౌలు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లి మార్గమున పోయెను.

8. అప్పుడు దావీదు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లినా యేలినవాడా రాజా, అని సౌలు వెనుకనుండి కేక వేయగా సౌలు వెనుక చూచెను. దావీదు నేల సాష్టాంగ పడి నమస్కారము చేసి

8. Soon, David also got up and left the cave. 'Your Majesty!' he shouted from a distance. Saul turned around to look. David bowed down very low

9. సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుదావీదు నీకు కీడుచేయనుద్దే శించుచున్నాడని జనులు చెప్పిన మాటలు నీవెందుకు విను చున్నావు?

9. and said: Your Majesty, why do you listen to people who say that I'm trying to harm you?

10. ఆలోచించుము; ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను ఏలాగు గుహలో నాచేతికి అప్పగించెనో అది నీ కండ్లార చూచితివే; కొందరు నిన్ను చంపుమని నాతో చెప్పినను నేను నీయందు కనికరించిఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక నా యేలినవాని చంపనని నేను చెప్పితిని.

10. You can see for yourself that the LORD gave me the chance to catch you in the cave today. Some of my men wanted to kill you, but I wouldn't let them do it. I told them, 'I will not harm the LORD's chosen king!'

11. నా తండ్రీ చూడుము, ఇదిగో, చూడుము. నిన్ను చంపక నీ వస్త్రపుచెంగు మాత్రమే కోసితిని గనుక నావలన నీకు కీడు ఎంతమాత్రుును రాదనియు, నాలో తప్పిదము ఎంతమాత్రమును లేదనియు, నీవు తెలిసికొనవచ్చును. నీ విషయమై నేను ఏపాపమును చేయనివాడనై యుండగా నీవు నా ప్రాణము తీయవలెనని నన్ను తరుముచున్నావు.

11. Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your robe, I could have killed you. But I let you live, and that should prove I'm not trying to harm you or to rebel. I haven't done anything to you, and yet you keep trying to ambush and kill me.

12. నీకును నాకును మధ్య యెహోవా న్యాయము తీర్చును. యెహోవా నా విషయమై పగతీర్చునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

12. I'll let the LORD decide which one of us has done right. I pray that the LORD will punish you for what you're doing to me, but I won't do anything to you.

13. పూర్వికులు సామ్యము చెప్పినట్టు దుష్టుల చేతనే దౌష్ట్యము పుట్టునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

13. An old proverb says, 'Only evil people do evil things,' and so I won't harm you.

14. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజు ఎవని పట్టుకొన బయలుదేరి వచ్చి యున్నాడు? ఏపాటివానిని తరుముచున్నాడు? చచ్చిన కుక్కనుగదా? మిన్నల్లిని గదా?

14. Why should the king of Israel be out chasing me, anyway? I'm as worthless as a dead dog or a flea.

15. యెహోవా నీకును నాకును మధ్య న్యాయాధిపతియై తీర్పు తీర్చునుగాక; ఆయనే సంగతి విచారించి నా పక్షమున వ్యాజ్యెమాడి నీ వశము కాకుండ నన్ను నిర్దోషినిగా తీర్చునుగాక.

15. I pray that the LORD will help me escape and show that I am in the right.

16. దావీదు ఈ మాటలు సౌలుతో మాటలాడి చాలింపగా సౌలుదావీదా నాయనా, ఈ పలుకు నీదేనా అని బిగ్గరగా ఏడ్చి

16. David, my son--is that you?' Saul asked. Then he started crying

17. దావీదుతో ఇట్లనెను - యెహోవా నన్ను నీచేతి కప్పగింపగా నన్ను చంపక విడిచినందుకు

17. and said: David, you're a better person than I am. You treated me with kindness, even though I've been cruel to you.

18. ఈ దినమున నీవు నా అపకారమునకు ఉపకారముచేసిన వాడవై, నా యెడల నీకున్న ఉపకారబుద్ధిని వెల్లడిచేసితివి గనుక నీవు నాకంటె నీతిపరుడవు.

18. You've told me how you were kind enough not to kill me when the LORD gave you the chance.

19. ఒకనికి తన శత్రువు దొరికినయెడల మేలుచేసి పంపివేయునా? ఈ దినమున నీవు నాకు చేసినదానినిబట్టి యెహోవా ప్రతిగా నీకు మేలు చేయునుగాక.

19. If you really were my enemy, you wouldn't have let me leave here alive. I pray that the LORD will give you a big reward for what you did today.

20. నిశ్చయముగా నీవు రాజ వగుదువనియు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజ్యము నీకు స్థిరపరచ బడుననియు నాకు తెలియును.

20. I realize now that you will be the next king, and a powerful king at that.

21. కాబట్టి నా తరువాత నా సంతతివారిని నీవు నిర్మూలము చేయకుండునట్లును, నా తండ్రి ఇంటిలోనుండి నా పేరు నీవు కొట్టివేయ కుండునట్లును యెహోవా నామమున నాకు ప్రమాణము చేయుము. అంతట దావీదు సౌలునకు ప్రమాణము చేసెను

21. Promise me with the LORD as your witness, that you won't wipe out my descendants. Let them live to keep my family name alive.

22. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇంటికి తిరిగి వచ్చెను; అయితే దావీదును అతని జనులును తమ కొండస్థలములకు వెళ్లి పోయిరి.

22. So David promised, and Saul went home. David and his men returned to their hideout.
