1. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయులతో యుద్ధము చేయు టకై బయలుదేరి ఎబెనెజరులో దిగగా ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఆఫెకులో దిగిరి.

1. And Samuel spake unto all Israel. And Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside the help stone. And the Philistines pitched in Aphek.

2. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీద తమ్మును యుద్ధపంక్తులుగా తీర్చుకొనగా వారు యుద్ధములో కలిసినప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయుల యెదుట ఓడిపోయి యుద్ధభూమిలోనే యెక్కువతక్కువ నాలుగు వేలమంది హతులైరి.

2. And put themselves in array against Israel. And in the end of the battle Israel was put to the worse before the Philistines. And the Philistines slew in array along by the fields, about a four thousand men.

3. కాబట్టి జనులు పాళెములోనికి తిరిగిరాగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల పెద్దలు యెహోవా నేడు మనలను ఫిలిష్తీయులముందర ఎందుకు ఓడించెను? షిలోహులో నున్న యెహోవా నిబంధన మందస మును మనము తీసికొని మన మధ్య నుంచుకొందము రండి; అది మన మధ్యనుండినయెడల అది మన శత్రువుల చేతిలోనుండి మనలను రక్షించుననిరి.

3. And when the people were come into their tents, the elders of Israel said: wherefore hath the LORD beaten us this day before the Philistines? let us fetch the ark of the appointment of the LORD, out of Siloh unto us, and let it come among us and save us out of the hands of our enemies.

4. కాబట్టి జనులు షిలోహునకు కొందరిని పంపి అక్కడనుండి కెరూ బులమధ్య ఆసీనుడైయుండు సైన్యముల కధిపతియగు యెహోవా నిబంధన మందసమును తెప్పించిరి. ఏలీయొక్క యిద్దరు కుమారులైన హొఫ్నీయును ఫీనెహాసును అక్కడనే దేవుని నిబంధన మందసమునొద్ద ఉండిరి.

4. And the people sent to Siloh, and fetched from thence the ark of the appointment of the LORD of Hosts which dwelleth between the Cherubins. And there were the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehes with the ark of the appointment of God.

5. యెహోవా నిబంధన మందసము దండులోనికి రాగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరు భూమి ప్రతి ధ్వని నిచ్చునంత గొప్పకేకలు వేసిరి.

5. And when the ark of the appointment of the LORD came into the host, all Israel shouted a mighty shout, so that the earth rang again.

6. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఆ కేకలు విని, హెబ్రీయుల దండులో ఈ గొప్ప కేకలధ్వని యేమని అడిగి, యెహోవా నిబంధన మందసము దండులోనికి వచ్చెనని తెలిసికొని

6. When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout they said: what meaneth the sound of this mighty shout in the host of the Hebrews? And they understood how that the ark of the LORD was come into the host.

7. జడిసి దేవుడు దండులోనికి వచ్చెనని అనుకొని అయ్యో మనకు శ్రమ, ఇంతకుమునుపు వారీలాగు సంభ్రమింపలేదు,

7. And the Philistines were afraid, when it was told how that God was come into the host and said: Woe unto us, for it was never so before this.

8. అయ్యయ్యో మహాశూరు డగు ఈ దేవుని చేతిలోనుండి మనలను ఎవరు విడిపింప గలరు? అరణ్యమందు అనేకమైన తెగుళ్లచేత ఐగుప్తీయులను హతము చేసిన దేవుడు ఈయనే గదా.

8. Woe unto us, who shall deliver us out of the hand of this mighty God? This is the God that smote the Egyptians with all manner of plagues in the wilderness.

9. ఫిలిష్తీయు లారా, ధైర్యము తెచ్చుకొని వారు మీకు దాసులైనట్టు మీరు హెబ్రీయులకు దాసులు కాకుండ బలాఢ్యులై యుద్ధము చేయుడని చెప్పుకొనిరి.

9. Be strong and quite yourselves like men, ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Be men therefore and fight.

10. ఫిలిష్తీయులు యుద్దముచేయగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు ఓడిపోయి అందరు తమ డేరాలకు పరుగెత్తివచ్చిరి. అప్పుడు అత్యధికమైన వధ జరిగెను; ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ముప్పదివేల కాల్బలము కూలెను.

10. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was put to the worse and fled, every man into his tent. And there was a mighty great slaughter, so that there were overthrown of Israel, thirty thousand footmen.

11. మరియు దేవుని మందసము పట్టబడెను; అదికాకను హొఫ్నీ ఫీనెహాసులను ఏలీయొక్క యిద్దరు కుమారులు హతులైరి.

11. And the ark of God was taken, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehes were dead.

12. ఆ నాడే బెన్యామీనీయుడొకడు యుద్ధభూమిలోనుండి పరుగెత్తివచ్చి, చినిగిన బట్టలతోను తలమీద ధూళితోను షిలోహులో ప్రవేశించెను.

12. And there ran a man of Ben Jamin out of the array and came to Siloh the same day, with his clothes rent and earth upon his head.

13. అతడు వచ్చినప్పుడు ఏలీ మందసము విషయమై గుండె అవియుచు త్రోవప్రక్కను పీఠముమీద కూర్చుండి యెదురుచూచుచుండెను. ఆ మనుష్యుడు పట్టణములోనికి వర్తమానము తేగా పట్టణస్థులందరు కేకలు వేసిరి.

13. And when the man came in, Eli sat upon a stool by the wayside looking: for his heart feared for the ark of God. And the man came in and told it in the city. And all the city cried.

14. ఏలీ ఆ కేకలు వినిఈ గల్లత్తు యేమని అడుగగా ఆ మనుష్యుడు త్వరగా వచ్చి ఏలీతో సంగతి తెలియచెప్పెను.

14. When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he asked what the noise of that rumour meant. And the man hasted and came in and told Eli.

15. ఏలీ తొంబది యెనిమిదేండ్లవాడై యుండెను. అతనికి దృష్టి మందగిలినందున అతని కండ్లు కానరాకుండెను.

15. Eli was four score and eighteen year old, and his sight failed him that he could not see.

16. ఆ మనుష్యుడుయుద్ధములోనుండి వచ్చినవాడను నేనే, నేడు యుద్ధములోనుండి పరుగెత్తి వచ్చితినని ఏలీతో అనగా అతడునాయనా, అక్కడ ఏమి జరిగెనని అడిగెను.

16. And the man said unto Eli: I am he that came out of the array and fled out of the host this day. And he said how is it fortuned, my son?

17. అందుకు అతడుఇశ్రాయేలీ యులు ఫిలిష్తీయులముందర నిలువలేక పారిపోయిరి; జను లలో అనేకులు హతులైరి; హొఫ్నీ ఫీనెహాసు అను నీ యిద్దరు కుమారులు మృతులైరి; మరియు దేవుని మందసము పట్టబడెను అని చెప్పెను

17. And the messenger answered and said: Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there is a great slaughter chanced among the people, and thy two sons, Hophni and Phinehes are dead, and thereto the ark of God is taken.

18. దేవుని మందసమను మాట అతడు పలుకగానే ఏలీ ద్వారముదగ్గర నున్న పీఠము మీదనుండి వెనుకకు పడి మెడవిరిగి చనిపోయెను; ఏల యనగా అతడు వృద్ధుడై బహు స్థూలదేహియై యుండెను. అతడు నలువది సంవత్సరములు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు న్యాయము తీర్చెను.

18. And when he made mention of the ark of God, Eli fell from off his stool backward toward the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was old and unwieldy, and he had judged Israel forty year.

19. ఏలీ కోడలగు ఫీనెహాసు భార్యకు అప్పటికి గర్భము కలిగి కనుప్రొద్దులైయుండగా దేవుని యొక్క మందసము పట్టబడెననియు, తన మామయు తన పెనిమిటియు చనిపోయిరనియు ఆమె విని నొప్పులుతగిలి మోకాళ్లమీదికి క్రుంగి ప్రసవమాయెను.

19. And his daughter-in-law Phinehes' wife was with child and nigh the birth. And when she heard the tidings of the taking of the ark of God, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed, for her pains came upon her.

20. ఆమె మృతినొందుచుండగా దగ్గర నిలిచియున్న స్త్రీలు ఆమెతోభయపడవద్దు, కుమారుని కంటివనిరి గాని ఆమె ప్రత్యుత్తరమియ్యకయు లక్ష్యపెట్టకయు నుండినదై

20. And about the time of her death, the women that stood about her, said unto her: fear not for thou hast borne a son. But she answered not nor regarded it.

21. దేవుని మందసము పట్టబడినదను సంగతిని, తన మామయు పెనిమిటియు చనిపోయిన సంగతిని తెలిసికొని ప్రభావము ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి పోయెనని చెప్పి తన బిడ్డకు ఈకాబోదు అను పేరు పెట్టెను.

21. And she named the child Ichabod saying: honour is departed from Israel. Because the ark of God was taken, and her father-in-law and her husband were dead.

22. దేవుని మందసము పట్టబడి పోయినందున ప్రభావము ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి చెరపట్టబడి పోయెనని ఆమె చెప్పెను.

22. And therefore she said, honour is gone from Israel, because the ark of God was taken.
