40 Days Day 33. Kizito of Uganda A Child Martyr for Christ
Kizito of Uganda, he is also known as also known as Kizito Omuto, he was a Ugandan child martyr who was burned alive on June 3, 1886 at the age of 14. He embodies the virtues of unwavering faith, courage, and devotion to Christ amidst persecution. His life serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith and the enduring strength found in Christ.
Born in the Kingdom of Buganda (present-day Uganda), Kizito was baptized as a Christian at his teen age. Despite the opposition and threats faced by Christians in Buganda, Kizito remained steadfast in his faith, boldly professing Christ as his Savior and Lord.
In 1886, Kizito and many other young Christians were arrested and imprisoned for their refusal to renounce their faith. Despite enduring harsh conditions and torture, Kizito and his companions remained resolute, trusting in the strength and providence of the Lord.
Despite the threat of death, Kizito and his companions refused to betray their faith. On June 3, 1886, Kizito was burned alive for his unwavering commitment to Christ, becoming a martyr for the faith. He was the youngest of the 31 men and boys who were executed by the king of Buganda, Mwanga, for refusing to renounce their Christian faith. Kizito and 11 others were wrapped in reed mats and placed on a bonfire. Their executioners were amazed at their calmness, resignation, and joy. As the flames rose, their voices could be heard praying and encouraging one another. Kizito-s last words were “Goodbye friends, we are on our way”
