1. తమ సహోదరులైన యూదుల మీద జనులును వారి భార్యలును కఠినమైన ఫిర్యాదుచేసిరి.

1. And there arose a great complaint of the people, and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

2. ఏదనగా కొందరు మేమును మా కుమారులును మా కుమార్తెలును అనేకు లము. అందుచేత మేము తిని బ్రదుకుటకు ధాన్యము మీయొద్ద తీసి కొందుమనిరి.

2. And there were some that said: our sons and daughters are too many, let us take corn for them to eat, that we may live.

3. మరికొందరుక్షామ మున్నందున మా భూములను ద్రాక్షతోటలను మాయిండ్లను కుదువ పెట్టితివిు గనుక మీయొద్ద ధాన్యము తీసికొందు మనిరి.

3. Some said: Let us set our lands, vineyards, and houses, to pledge, and take up corn in the darth.

4. మరికొందరురాజుగారికి పన్ను చెల్లించుటకై మా భూములమీదను మా ద్రాక్షతోటలమీదను మేము అప్పు చేసితివిు.

4. But some said: let us borrow money of the king's tribute(upon usury) for our lands and vineyards.

5. మా ప్రాణము మా సహోదరుల ప్రాణమువంటిది కాదా? మా పిల్లలు వారి పిల్లలను పోలిన వారు కారా? మా కుమారులను మా కుమార్తెలను దాసులగుటకై అప్పగింపవలసి వచ్చెను; ఇప్పటికిని మా కుమార్తె లలో కొందరు దాసత్వములో నున్నారు, మా భూములును మా ద్రాక్షతోటలును అన్యులవశమున నుండగా వారిని విడిపించుటకు మాకు శక్తి చాలకున్నదని చెప్పగా

5. Now are our brethrens' bodies as our own bodies and their children as our children: else should we subdue our sons and daughters into bondage, and some of our daughters are subdued already, and no strength is there in our hands, and other men shall have our lands and vineyards.

6. వారి ఫిర్యాదును ఈ మాటలను నేను వినినప్పుడు మిగుల కోపపడితిని.

6. But when I heard their complaint and such words, it displeased me sore,

7. అంతట నాలో నేనే యోచనచేసి ప్రధానులను అధికారులను గద్దించిమీరు మీ సహోదరులయొద్ద వడ్డి పుచ్చుకొనుచున్నారని చెప్పి వారిని ఆటంకపరచుటకై మహా సమాజమును సమకూర్చి

7. and I advised so in my mind, that I rebuked the councilors,(councelers) the rulers, and said unto them: Will ye require usury one of another? And I brought a great congregation against them

8. అన్యులకు అమ్మబడిన మా సహోదరులైన యూదులను మా శక్తికొలది మేము విడిపించితివిు, మీరు మీ సహోదరులను అమ్ముదురా? వారు మనకు అమ్మబడవచ్చునా? అని వారితో చెప్పగా, వారు ఏమియు చెప్పలేక ఊరకుండిరి.

8. and said unto them: We (after our ability) have bought our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the Heathen. And will ye sell your brethren, whom we have bought unto us? Then held they their peace, and could find nothing to answer.

9. మరియు నేనుమీరు చేయునది మంచిది కాదు, మన శత్రువులైన అన్యుల నిందనుబట్టి మన దేవునికి భయపడి మీరు ప్రవర్తింప కూడదా?

9. Also I said: It is not good that ye do. Ought ye not to walk in the fear of God because of the rebuke of the Heathen our enemies?

10. నేనును నా బంధువులును నా దాసులునుకూడ ఆలాగుననే వారికి సొమ్మును ధాన్యమును అప్పుగా ఇచ్చితివిు; ఆ అప్పు పుచ్చుకొనకుందము.

10. I and my brethren, and my servants have lent them money and corn: but as for usury, let us leave it.

11. ఈ దినములోనే వారియొద్ద మీరు అపహరించిన భూములను ద్రాక్షతోటలను ఒలీవతోటలను వారి యిండ్లను వారికి అప్పుగా ఇచ్చిన సొమ్ములోను ధాన్యములోను ద్రాక్షారసములోను నూనెలోను నూరవభాగమును వారికి మరల అప్పగించుడని నేను మిమ్మును బతిమాలుచున్నాను అంటిని.

11. Therefore this same day see that ye restore them their lands again, their vineyards, oil gardens, and houses, and the hundredth part of the money of the corn, wine, and oil, that ye have won of them.

12. అందుకు వారునీవు చెప్పినప్రకారమే యివన్నియు ఇచ్చివేసి వారియొద్ద ఏమియు కోరమనిరి. అంతట నేను యాజకులను పిలిచి ఈ వాగ్దాన ప్రకారము జరిగించుటకు వారిచేత ప్రమాణము చేయించితిని.

12. Then said they: We will restore them again and will require nothing of them and will do as thou hast spoken. And I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do so.

13. మరియు నేను నా ఒడిని దులిపిఈ ప్రకారమే దేవుడు ఈ వాగ్దానము నెరవేర్చని ప్రతివానిని తన యింటిలో ఉండకయు తన పని ముగింపకయు నుండునట్లు దులిపివేయును; ఇటువలె వాడు దులిపి వేయబడి యేమియు లేనివాడుగా చేయబడునుగాకని చెప్పగా, సమాజకులందరు ఆలాగు కలుగునుగాక అని చెప్పి యెహోవాను స్తుతించిరి. జనులందరును ఈ మాట చొప్పుననే జరిగించిరి.

13. And I shook my lap, and said: God shake out every man after the same manner from his house and labour, that maintaineth not this word: even thus be he shaken out, and void. And all the congregation said: Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did so.

14. మరియు నేను యూదాదేశములో వారికి అధికారిగా నిర్ణయింపబడినకాలము మొదలుకొని, అనగా అర్తహషస్త రాజు ఏలుబడియందు ఇరువదియవ సంవత్సరము మొదలుకొని ముప్పదిరెండవ సంవత్సరము వరకు పండ్రెండు సంవత్సరములు అధికారికి రావలసిన సొమ్మును నేనుగాని నా బంధువులుగాని తీసికొనలేదు.

14. And from the time forth that it was committed unto me to be a captain in the land of Juda, namely from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of king Arthaxerses (that is twelve years) I and my brethren lived not of such sustenance as was given to a captain:

15. అయితే నాకు ముందుగానుండిన అధికారులు జనులయొద్ద నుండి ఆహారమును ద్రాక్షారసమును నలువది తులముల వెండిని తీసికొనుచు వచ్చిరి; వారి పనివారు సహా జనుల మీద భారము మోపుచు వచ్చిరి, అయితే దేవుని భయము చేత నేనాలాగున చేయలేదు.

15. For the old captains that were before me, had been chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, and forty sicles of silver: yea and their servants had oppressed the people. But so did not I, and that because of the fear of God.

16. ఇదియుగాక నేను ఈ గోడపని చేయగా నా పనివారును ఆ పనిచేయుచు వచ్చిరి.

16. I laboured also in the work upon the wall, and bought no land. And all my servants came thither together unto the work.

17. భూమి సంపాదించుకొనినవారము కాము; నా భోజనపు బల్లయొద్ద మా చుట్టునున్న అన్యజనులలోనుండి వచ్చిన వారు గాక యూదులును అధికారులును నూట ఏబదిమంది కూర్చునియుండిరి.

17. Moreover there were at my table an hundredth and fifty of the Jews and rulers, which came unto me, from among the Heathen, that are about us.

18. నా నిమిత్తము ప్రతి దినము ఒక యెద్దును శ్రేష్ఠమైన ఆరు గొఱ్ఱెలును సిద్ధము చేయబడెను. ఇవియుగాక కోళ్లను, పదిరోజులకు ఒకమారు నానావిధమైన ద్రాక్షారసములను సిద్ధము చేసితిని. ఈ ప్రకారముగా చేసినను ఈ జనుల దాసత్వము బహు కఠినముగా ఉండినందున అధికారికి రావలసిన సొమ్మును నేను అపేక్షింపలేదు.

18. And there was prepared me daily an ox, and six chosen sheep, and birds, and ever once in ten days a great sum of wine. Yet required not I the living of a captain for the bondage was grievous unto the people.

19. నా దేవా, ఈ జనులకు నేను చేసిన సకలమైన ఉపకారములనుబట్టి నాకు మేలు కలుగు నట్లుగా నన్ను దృష్టించుము.

19. Think upon me my God unto the best, according to all that I have done for this people.
