1. ఐగుప్తులోనికి యాకోబుతో వచ్చిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల పేరులు ఏవనగా, రూబేను షిమ్యోను లేవి యూదా ఇశ్శాఖారు జెబూలూను బెన్యామీను.

1. These are the names of the sons of Israel that came into Egypt, together with Jacob their father. They came in each with their whole family.

2. దాను నఫ్తాలి గాదు ఆషేరు.

2. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah,

3. వీరిలో ప్రతివాడును తన తన కుటుంబముతో వచ్చెను.

3. Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin,

4. యాకోబు గర్భమున పుట్టినవారందరు డెబ్బదిమంది.

4. Dan, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

5. అప్పటికి యోసేపు ఐగుప్తులో ఉండెను.

5. But Joseph was in Egypt. And all the souls born of Jacob were seventy-five.

6. యోసేపును అతని అన్నదమ్ములందరును ఆ తరమువారందరును చనిపోయిరి.

6. And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

7. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు బహు సంతానము గలవారై అభివృద్ధి పొంది విస్తరించి అత్యధికముగా ప్రబలిరి; వారున్న ప్రదేశము వారితో నిండియుండెను.

7. And the children of Israel increased and multiplied, and became numerous and grew exceedingly strong, and the land multiplied them.

8. అప్పుడు యోసేపును ఎరుగని క్రొత్త రాజు ఐగుప్తును ఏలనారంభించెను.

8. And there arose up another king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.

9. అతడు తన జనులతో ఇట్లనెను ఇదిగో ఇశ్రాయేలు సంతతియైన యీ జనము మనకంటె విస్తారముగాను బలిష్ఠముగాను ఉన్నది.

9. And he said to his nation, Behold, the race of the children of Israel is a great multitude, and is stronger than we!

10. వారు విస్తరింపకుండునట్లు మనము వారి యెడల యుక్తిగా జరిగించుదము రండి; లేనియెడల యుద్ధము కలుగునప్పుడు కూడ మన శత్రువులతో చేరి మనకు విరోధముగా యుద్ధముచేసి యీ దేశములోనుండి, వెళ్లిపోదురేమో అనెను.

10. Come then, let us deal craftily with them, lest at any time they be increased, and whenever war shall happen to us, these also shall be added to our enemies, and having prevailed against us in war, they will depart out of the land.

11. కాబట్టి వారిమీద పెట్టిన భారములలో వారిని శ్రమపెట్టుటకు వెట్టి పనులు చేయించు అధికారులను వారిమీద నియమింపగా వారు ఫరోకొరకు ధాన్యాదులను నిలువచేయు పీతోము రామెసేసను పట్టణములను కట్టిరి.

11. And he set over them taskmasters, who should afflict them in their works; and they built strong cities for Pharaoh, both Pithom, and Raamses, and On, which is Heliopolis.

12. అయినను ఐగుప్తీయులు వారిని శ్రమపెట్టినకొలది వారు విస్తరించి ప్రబలిరి గనుక వారు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల యెడల అసహ్యపడిరి.

12. But as they humbled them, by so much they multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong. And the Egyptians greatly abhorred the children of Israel.

13. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులచేత ఐగుప్తీయులు కఠినముగా సేవ చేయించుకొనిరి;

13. And the Egyptians tyrannized over the children of Israel by force.

14. వారు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులచేత చేయించుకొనిన ప్రతి పనియు కఠినముగా ఉండెను. వారు జిగటమంటి పనిలోను, ఇటుకల పనిలోను, పొలములో చేయు ప్రతిపనిలోను కఠినసేవ చేయించి వారి ప్రాణములను విసికించిరి.

14. And they embittered their life by hard labors, in the clay and in brick-making, and all the works in the plains, according to all the works, wherein they caused them to serve with violence.

15. మరియు ఐగుప్తురాజు షిఫ్రా పూయా అను హెబ్రీయుల మంత్రసానులతో మాటలాడి

15. And the king of the Egyptians spoke to the midwives of the Hebrews. The name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the second [was] Puah.

16. మీరు హెబ్రీ స్త్రీలకు మంత్రసానిపని చేయుచు వారిని కాన్పుపీటల మీద చూచినప్పుడు మగవాడైనయెడల వాని చంపుడి, ఆడుదైనయెడల దాని బ్రదుకనియ్యుడని వారితో చెప్పెను.

16. And he said, When you do the duties of midwife to the Hebrew women, and they are about to be delivered, if it be a male, kill it; but if a female, save it.

17. అయితే ఆ మంత్రసానులు దేవునికి భయపడి, ఐగుప్తురాజు తమ కాజ్ఞాపించినట్లు చేయక మగపిల్లలను బ్రదుకనియ్యగా

17. But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt appointed them; and they saved the male children alive.

18. ఐగుప్తురాజు ఆ మంత్రసానులను పిలిపించి మీరెందుకు మగపిల్లలను బ్రదుకనిచ్చితిరి? ఈ పనియేల చేసితిరి అని అడిగెను.

18. And the king of Egypt called the midwives, and said to them, Why is it that you have done this thing, and saved the male children alive?

19. అందుకు ఆ మంత్రసానులు హెబ్రీ స్త్రీలు ఐగుప్తు స్త్రీలవంటివారు కారు; వారు చురుకైనవారు. మంత్రసాని వారియొద్దకు వెళ్లక మునుపే వారు ప్రసవించి యుందురని ఫరోతో చెప్పిరి.

19. And the midwives said to Pharaoh, The Hebrew women are not as the women of Egypt, for they are delivered before the midwives go in to them. So they bore children.

20. దేవుడు ఆ మంత్రసానులకు మేలుచేసెను. ఆ జనము విస్తరించి మిక్కిలి ప్రబలెను.

20. And God did well to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very strong.

21. ఆ మంత్రసానులు దేవునికి భయపడినందున ఆయన వారికి వంశాభివృద్ధి కలుగజేసెను.

21. And as the midwives feared God, they established for themselves families.

22. అయితే ఫరో హెబ్రీయులలో పుట్టిన ప్రతి కుమారుని నదిలో పారవేయుడి, ప్రతి కుమార్తెను బ్రదుకనియ్యుడి అని తన జనులందరికి ఆజ్ఞాపించెను.

22. And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Whatever male [child] shall be born to the Hebrews, cast into the river; and every female, save it alive.
