1. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు షిత్తీములో దిగియుండగా ప్రజలు మోయాబురాండ్రతో వ్యభిచారము చేయసాగిరి.

1. And Israel dwelleth in Shittim, and the people begin to go a-whoring unto daughters of Moab,

2. ఆ స్త్రీలు తమ దేవతల బలులకు ప్రజలను పిలువగా వీరు భోజనముచేసి వారి దేవతలకు నమస్కరించిరి.

2. and they call for the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people eat, and bow themselves to their gods,

3. అట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు బయల్పెయోరుతో కలిసికొనినందున వారిమీద యెహోవా కోపము రగులుకొనెను.

3. and Israel is joined to Baal-Peor, and the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel.

4. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేతో ఇట్లనెను నీవు ప్రజల అధిపతులనందరిని తోడుకొని, యెహోవా సన్నిధిని సూర్యునికి ఎదురుగా వారిని ఉరితీయుము. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కోపాగ్ని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీదనుండి తొలగిపోవునని చెప్పెను.

4. And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them before Jehovah -- over-against the sun; and the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah doth turn back from Israel.'

5. కాబట్టి మోషే ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల న్యాయాధి పతులను పిలిపించి మీలో ప్రతివాడును బయల్పెయో రుతో కలిసికొనిన తన తన వశములోనివారిని చంపవలెనని చెప్పెను.

5. And Moses saith unto the judges of Israel, 'Slay ye each his men who are joined to Baal-Peor.'

6. ఇదిగో మోషే కన్నుల యెదుటను, ప్రత్య క్షపు గుడారము యొక్క ద్వారము నొద్ద ఏడ్చుచుండిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సర్వసమాజము యొక్క కన్నులయెదుటను, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు ఒక మిద్యాను స్త్రీని తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

6. And lo, a man of the sons of Israel hath come, and bringeth in unto his brethren the Midianitess, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the company of the sons of Israel, who are weeping at the opening of the tent of meeting;

7. యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు అది చూచి,

7. and Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, the priest, seeth, and riseth from the midst of the company, and taketh a javelin in his hand,

8. సమాజమునుండి లేచి, యీటెను చేత పట్టుకొని పడకచోటికి ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని వెంబడి వెళ్లి ఆ యిద్దరిని, అనగా ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని ఆ స్త్రీని కడుపులో గుండ దూసిపోవు నట్లు పొడిచెను; అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి తెగులు నిలిచి పోయెను.

8. and goeth in after the man of Israel unto the hollow place, and pierceth them both, the man of Israel and the woman -- unto her belly, and the plague is restrained from the sons of Israel;

9. ఇరువది నాలుగువేలమంది ఆ తెగులు చేత చనిపోయిరి.

9. and the dead by the plague are four and twenty thousand.

10. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు,

10. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

11. వారి మధ్యను నేను ఓర్వలేని దానిని తాను ఓర్వలేకపోవుట వలన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీదనుండి నా కోపము మళ్లించెను గనుక నేను ఓర్వలేకయుండియు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నశింపజేయలేదు.

11. 'Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, hath turned back My fury from the sons of Israel, by his being zealous with My zeal in their midst, and I have not consumed the sons of Israel in My zeal.

12. కాబట్టి నీవు అతనితో ఇట్లనుము అతనితో నేను నా సమాధాన నిబంధనను చేయుచున్నాను.

12. 'Therefore say, Lo, I am giving to him My covenant of peace,

13. అది నిత్యమైన యాజక నిబంధనగా అతనికిని అతని సంతానమునకును కలిగియుండును; ఏలయనగా అతడు తన దేవుని విషయమందు ఆసక్తిగలవాడై ఇశ్రా యేలీయుల నిమిత్తము ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము చేసెను.

13. and it hath been to him and to his seed after him a covenant of a priesthood age-during, because that he hath been zealous for his God, and doth make atonement for the sons of Israel.'

14. చంపబడిన వాని పేరు జిమీ, అతడు షిమ్యోనీయులలో తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకు ప్రధానియైన సాలూ కుమారుడు.

14. And the name of the man of Israel who is smitten, who hath been smitten with the Midianitess, [is] Zimri son of Salu, prince of the house of a father of the Simeonite;

15. చంపబడిన స్త్రీ పేరు కొజ్బీ, ఆమె సూరు కుమార్తె. అతడు మిద్యానీయులలో ఒక గోత్రమునకును తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకును ప్రధానియై యుండెను.

15. and the name of the woman who is smitten, the Midianitess, [is] Cozbi daughter of Zur, head of a people -- of the house of a father in Midian [is] he.

16. మరియు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెను మిద్యానీయులు తమ తంత్రములవలన మీకు బాధకులై యున్నారు; వారిని బాధపెట్టి హతము చేయుడి;

16. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

17. వారు తంత్రములు చేసి పెయోరు సంతతిలోను,

17. 'Distress the Midianites, and ye have smitten them,

18. తెగులు దినమందు పెయోరు విషయములో చంపబడిన తమ సహోదరియు మిద్యానీయుల అధిపతి కుమార్తెయునైన కొజ్బీ సంగతిలోను, మిమ్మును మోసపుచ్చిరి.

18. for they are adversaries to you with their frauds, [with] which they have acted fraudulently to you, concerning the matter of Peor, and concerning the matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who is smitten in the day of the plague for the matter of Peor.'
