1. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకును కనానీయులకును జరిగినయుద్ధము లన్నిటిని చూడనివారందరిని శోధించి

1. The following are the nations which the LORD allowed to remain, so that through them he might try all those Israelites who had no experience of the battles with Canaan

2. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల తరతరములవారికి, అనగా పూర్వము ఆ యుద్ధములను ఏ మాత్రమును చూడనివారికి యుద్ధముచేయ నేర్పునట్లు యెహోవా ఉండనిచ్చిన జనములు ఇవి.

2. training them in battle, those generations only of the Israelites who would not have had that previous experience):

3. ఫిలిష్తీయుల అయిదుగురు సర్దారుల జనులును, కనానీయులందరును, సీదోనీయులును, బయల్హెర్మోను మొదలుకొని హమాతునకు పోవు మార్గమువరకు లెబానోను కొండలో నివసించు హివ్వీయులును,

3. the five lords of the Philistines; and all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwell in the mountain region of Lebanon between Baal-hermon and the entrance to Hamath.

4. యెహోవా మోషేద్వారా తమ తండ్రుల కిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞలను వారు అనుసరింతురో లేదో తెలిసికొను నట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను పరిశోధించుటకై ఆ జనములను ఉండనిచ్చెను.

4. These served to put Israel to the test, to determine whether they would obey the commandments the LORD had enjoined on their fathers through Moses.

5. కాబట్టి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు, కనానీయులు హిత్తీయులు అమోరీయులు

5. Besides, the Israelites were living among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

6. పెరిజ్జీ యులు హివ్వీయులు ఎబూసీయులను జనులమధ్య నివసించుచు వారి కుమార్తె లను పెండ్లిచేసికొనుచు, వారి కుమారులకు తమ కుమార్తెల నిచ్చుచు, వారి దేవతలను పూజించుచు వచ్చిరి

6. In fact, they took their daughters in marriage, and gave their own daughters to their sons in marriage, and served their gods.

7. అట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు యెహోవా సన్నిధిని దోషులై, తమ దేవుడైన యెహోవాను మరచి బయలుదేవతలను దేవతా స్తంభములను పూజించిరి.

7. Because the Israelites had offended the LORD by forgetting the LORD, their God, and serving the Baals and the Asherahs,

8. అందునుగూర్చి యెహోవా కోపము ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీద మండగా ఆయన అరా మ్నహరాయిముయొక్క రాజైన కూషన్రిషాతాయిము చేతులకు దాసులగుటకై వారిని అమ్మివేసెను. ఇశ్రాయేలీ యులు ఎనిమిది సంవత్సరములు కూషన్రిషాతాయిమునకు దాసులుగానుండిరి

8. the anger of the LORD flared up against them, and he allowed them to fall into the power of Cushan-rishathaim, king of Aram Naharaim, whom they served for eight years.

9. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు యెహోవాకు మొఱ్ఱపెట్టగా యెహోవా కాలేబు తమ్ముడైన కనజు యొక్క కుమారుడగు ఒత్నీయేలును రక్షకునిగా ఇశ్రా యేలీయులకొరకు నియమించి వారిని రక్షించెను.

9. But when the Israelites cried out to the LORD, he raised up for them a savior, Othniel, son of Caleb's younger brother Kenaz, who rescued them.

10. యెహోవా ఆత్మ అతని మీదికి వచ్చెను గనుక అతడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు న్యాయాధిపతియై యుద్ధమునకు బయలుదేరగా యెహోవా అరామ్నహరాయిము రాజైన కూషన్రిషాతాయిమును అతని చేతికప్పగించెను, ఆతడు కూషన్రిషాతాయిమును జయించెను.

10. The spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel. When he went out to war, the LORD delivered Cushan-risha-thaim, king of Aram, into his power, so that he made him subject.

11. అప్పుడు నలువది సంవత్సరములు దేశము నెమ్మదిపొందెను. అటుతరువాత కనజు కుమారుడైన ఒత్నీయేలు మృతినొందెను.

11. The land then was at rest for forty years, until Othniel, son of Kenaz, died.

12. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు మరల యెహోవా దృష్టికి దోషు లైరి గనుక వారు యెహోవా దృష్టికి దోషులైనందున యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులతో యుద్ధముచేయుటకు మోయాబు రాజైన ఎగ్లోనును బలపరచెను.

12. Again the Israelites offended the LORD, who because of this offense strengthened Eglon, king of Moab, against Israel.

13. అతడు అమ్మోనీయులను అమాలేకీయులను సమకూర్చుకొనిపోయి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఓడగొట్టి ఖర్జూరచెట్ల పట్టణమును స్వాధీనపరచుకొనెను.

13. In alliance with the Ammonites and Amalekites, he attacked and defeated Israel, taking possession of the city of palms.

14. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు పదునెనిమిది సంవత్సరములు మోయాబు రాజునకు దాసులైరి.

14. The Israelites then served Eglon, king of Moab, for eighteen years.

15. ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు యెహోవాకు మొఱ్ఱ పెట్టగా బెన్యామీ నీయుడైన గెరా కుమారుడగు ఏహూదను రక్షకుని వారి కొరకు యెహోవా నియమించెను. అతడు ఎడమచేతి పని వాడు. అతనిచేతను ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు మోయాబు రాజైన ఎగ్లోనుకు కప్పము పంపగా

15. But when the Israelites cried out to the LORD, he raised up for them a savior, the Benjaminite Ehud, son of Gera, who was left-handed. It was by him that the Israelites sent their tribute to Eglon, king of Moab.

16. ఏహూదు మూరెడు పొడవుగల రెండంచుల కత్తిని చేయించుకొని, తన వస్త్ర ములో తన కుడి తొడమీద

16. Ehud made himself a two-edged dagger a foot long, and wore it under his clothes over his right thigh.

17. దానిని కట్టుకొని, ఆ కప్పము మోయాబురాజైన ఎగ్లో నుకు తెచ్చెను. ఆ ఎగ్లోను బహు స్థూలకాయుడు.

17. He presented the tribute to Eglon, king of Moab, who was very fat,

18. ఏహూదు ఆ కప్పము తెచ్చి యిచ్చిన తరువాత కప్పము మోసిన జనులను వెళ్లనంపి

18. and after the presentation went off with the tribute bearers.

19. గిల్గాలు దగ్గర నున్న పెసీలీమునొద్దనుండి తిరిగి వచ్చిరాజా, రహస్యమైన మాట ఒకటి నేను నీతో చెప్పవలె ననగా అతడుతనయొద్ద నిలిచినవారందరు వెలుపలికి పోవు వరకు ఊరకొమ్మని చెప్పెను.

19. He returned, however, from where the idols are, near Gilgal, and said, 'I have a private message for you, O king.' And the king said, 'Silence!' Then when all his attendants had left his presence,

20. ఏహూదు అతని దగ్గ రకు వచ్చినప్పుడు అతడు ఒక్కడే చల్లని మేడ గదిలో కూర్చుండియుండెను. ఏహూదునీతో నేను చెప్ప వలసిన దేవునిమాట ఒకటి యున్నదని చెప్పగా అతడు తన పీఠముమీదనుండి లేచెను.

20. and Ehud went in to him where he sat alone in his cool upper room, Ehud said, 'I have a message from God for you.' So the king rose from his chair,

21. అప్పుడు ఏహూదు తన యెడమచేతిని చాపి తన కుడి తొడమీదనుండి ఆ కత్తి తీసి కడుపుమీద అతని పొడిచెను.

21. and then Ehud with his left hand drew the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into Eglon's belly.

22. పడియును కత్తివెంబడి దూరగా క్రొవ్వుకత్తిపైని కప్పుకొనినందున అతని కడుపు నుండి కత్తిని తీయలేకపోయెను, అది వెనుకనుండి బయటికి వచ్చి యుండెను.

22. The hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade because he did not withdraw the dagger from his body.

23. అప్పుడు ఏహూదు పంచపాళిలోనికి బయలువెళ్లి తన వెనుకను ఆ మేడగది తలుపువేసి గడియ పెట్టెను.

23. Then Ehud went out into the hall, shutting the doors of the upper room on him and locking them.

24. అతడు బయలువెళ్లిన తరువాత ఆ రాజు దాసులు లోపలికివచ్చి చూడగా ఆ మేడగది తలుపులు గడియలు వేసియుండెను గనుక వారు అతడు చల్లని గదిలో శంకానివర్తికి పోయియున్నాడనుకొని

24. When Ehud had left and the servants came, they saw that the doors of the upper room were locked, and thought, 'He must be easing himself in the cool chamber.'

25. తాము సిగ్గువింతలు పడువరకు కనిపెట్టినను అతడు ఆ గది తలుపు లను తీయకపోగా వారు తాళపు చెవిని తెచ్చి తలుపులు తీసి చూచినప్పుడు వారి యజమానుడు చనిపోయి నేలను పడియుండెను.

25. They waited until they finally grew suspicious. Since he did not open the doors of the upper room, they took the key and opened them. There on the floor, dead, lay their lord!

26. వారు తడవు చేయు చుండగా ఏహూదు తప్పించుకొని పెసీలీమును దాటి శెయీరాకు పారి పోయెను.

26. During their delay Ehud made good his escape and, passing the idols, took refuge in Seirah.

27. అతడు వచ్చి ఎఫ్రాయిమీయుల కొండలో బూరను ఊదగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు మన్యప్రదేశమునుండి దిగి అతని యొద్దకు వచ్చిరి.

27. On his arrival he sounded the horn in the mountain region of Ephraim, and the Israelites went down from the mountains with him as their leader.

28. అతడు వారికి ముందుగా సాగి వారితోనా వెంబడి త్వరగా రండి; మీ శత్రువు లైన మోయాబీయులను యెహోవా మీ చేతి కప్పగించు చున్నాడనెను. కాబట్టి వారు అతని వెంబడిని దిగివచ్చి మోయాబు నెదుటి యొర్దాను రేవులను పట్టుకొని యెవనిని దాటనియ్యలేదు.

28. 'Follow me,' he said to them, 'for the LORD has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your power.' So they followed him down and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, permitting no one to cross.

29. ఆ కాలమున వారు మోయాబీయు లలో బలముగల శూరులైన పరాక్రమ శాలులను పదివేల మందిని చంపిరి; ఒకడును తప్పించుకొనలేదు. ఆ దిన మున మోయాబీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల చేతిక్రింద అణపబడగా దేశము ఎనుబది సంవత్సరములు నిమ్మళముగా ఉండెను.

29. On that occasion they slew about ten thousand Moabites, all of them strong and valiant men. Not a man escaped.

30. అతనితరువాత అనాతు కుమారుడైన షవ్గురు న్యాయాధి పతిగా ఉండెను. అతడు ఫిలిష్తీయులలో ఆరువందల మందిని మునుకోల కఱ్ఱతో హతముచేసెను;

30. Thus was Moab brought under the power of Israel at that time; and the land had rest for eighty years.

31. అతడును ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను రక్షించెను.

31. After him there was Shamgar, son of Anath, who slew six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad. He, too, rescued Israel.
