1. రెహబామునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేయుటకై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును షెకెమునకు వెళ్లగా రెహబాముషెకెమునకు పోయెను.

1. Rehoboam went to Shechem, where all the Israelites had gone to make him king.

2. రాజైన సొలొమోను సమక్షము నుండి పారిపోయి ఐగుప్తులో వాసము చేయుచున్న నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాము అది విని ఐగుప్తునుండి తిరిగిరాగా జనులు అతని పిలిపించిరి.

2. Jeroboam son of Nebat was in Egypt, where he had gone to escape from King Solomon. When Jeroboam heard about Rehoboam being made king, he returned from Egypt.

3. యరొబామును ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును కూడి వచ్చి నీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను;

3. After the people sent for him, he and the people went to Rehoboam and said to him,

4. నీ తండ్రి నియమించిన కఠిన దాస్యమును అతడు మామీద ఉంచిన బరువైన కాడిని నీవు ఇప్పుడు చులుకన చేసినయెడల మేము నిన్ను సేవింతు మని రెహబాముతో మనవిచేయగా

4. Your father forced us to work very hard. Now, make it easier for us, and don't make us work as he did. Then we will serve you.'

5. అతడుమీరు మూడు దినములు తాళి మరల నాయొద్దకు రండని చెప్పెను గనుక జనులు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

5. Rehoboam answered, 'Come back to me in three days.' So the people left.

6. అప్పుడు రాజైన రెహ బాము తన తండ్రియైన సొలొమోను సజీవియై యుండగా అతని సమక్షమున నిలిచిన పెద్దలను పిలిపించి - యీ జనులకు నేనేమి ప్రత్యుత్తర మియ్యవలెను? మీరు చెప్పు ఆలోచన ఏది అని అడుగగా

6. King Rehoboam asked the older leaders who had advised Solomon during his lifetime, 'How do you think I should answer these people?'

7. వారునీవు ఈ జనులయెడల దయా దాక్షిణ్యములు చూపి వారితో మంచి మాటలాడినయెడల వారు ఎప్పటికిని నీకు దాసులగుదురని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

7. They answered, 'Be kind to these people. If you please them and give them a kind answer, they will serve you always.'

8. అయితే అతడు పెద్దలు తనకు చెప్పిన ఆలోచన త్రోసి వేసి, తనతోకూడ పెరిగి తన యెదుటనున్న ¸యౌవనస్థులతో ఆలోచనచేసి

8. But Rehoboam rejected this advice. Instead, he asked the young men who had grown up with him and who served as his advisers.

9. నీ తండ్రి మామీద ఉంచిన కాడిని చులుకన చేయుమని నన్నడిగిన యీ జనులకు ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమి ఇయ్యవలెనని మీరు యోచింతురో చెప్పుడని వారినడుగగా

9. Rehoboam asked them, 'What is your advice? How should we answer these people who said, 'Don't make us work as hard as your father did'?'

10. అతనితో కూడ పెరిగిన యీ ¸యౌవనస్థులు అతనితో ఇట్లనిరినీ తండ్రి మా కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నీవు దానిని చులుకన చేయుమని నీతో పలికిన యీ జనులతో నీవు చెప్పవలసినదేమనగానా చిటికెన వ్రేలు నా తండ్రియొక్క నడుముకంటె బరువుగా ఉండును;

10. The young men who had grown up with him answered, 'The people said to you, 'Your father forced us to work very hard. Now make our work easier.' You should tell them, 'My little finger is bigger than my father's legs.

11. నా తండ్రి బరువైన కాడి మీమీద మోపెను గాని నేను మీ కాడిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను గాని నేను కొరడాలతో మిమ్మును దండించెదనని చెప్పుము.

11. He forced you to work hard, but I will make you work even harder. My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with whips that have sharp points.''

12. మూడవ దినమందు నాయొద్దకు తిరిగి రండని రాజు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము యరొబామును జనులందరును మూడవ దినమందు రెహబామునొద్దకు రాగా

12. Rehoboam had told the people, 'Come back to me in three days.' So after three days Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam.

13. రాజైన రెహబాము పెద్దల ఆలోచనను త్రోసివేసి, ¸యౌవనస్థులు చెప్పిన ప్రకారము వారితో మాటలాడి

13. King Rehoboam spoke cruel words to them, because he had rejected the advice of the older leaders.

14. వారికి కఠినమైన ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను; ఎట్లనగానా తండ్రి మీ కాడిని బరువుచేసెను, నేను దానిని మరింత బరువు చేయుదును; నా తండ్రి మిమ్మును చబుకులతో దండించెను, నేను మిమ్మును కొరడా లతో దండించెదనని చెప్పెను.

14. He followed the advice of the young men and said, 'My father forced you to work hard, but I will make you work even harder. My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with whips that have sharp points.'

15. యెహోవా షిలోనీయుడైన అహీయాద్వారా నెబాతు కుమారుడైన యరొబాముతో సెలవిచ్చిన తన మాటను స్థిరపరచునట్లు దేవుని నిర్ణయ ప్రకారము జనులు చేసిన మనవి రాజు ఆలకించక పోయెను.

15. So the king did not listen to the people. God caused this to happen so that the Lord could keep the promise he had made to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah, a prophet from Shiloh.

16. రాజు తాము చేసిన మనవి అంగీకరింపక పోవుట చూచి జనులుదావీదులో మాకు భాగము ఏది? యెష్షయి కుమారునియందు మాకు స్వాస్థ్యము లేదు;ఇశ్రా యేలువారలారా, మీ గుడారమునకు పోవుడి; దావీదూ, నీ సంతతివారిని నీవే చూచుకొనుమని రాజునకు ప్రత్యు త్తరమిచ్చి ఇశ్రాయేలువారందరును ఎవరి గుడారమునకు వారు వెళ్లిపోయిరి.

16. When all the Israelites saw that the king refused to listen to them, they said to the king, 'We have no share in David! People of Israel, let's go to our own homes! Let David's son rule his own people.' So all the Israelites went home.

17. అయితే యూదాపట్టణములలో కాపురముండు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద రెహబాము ఏలుబడి చేసెను.

17. But Rehoboam still ruled over the Israelites who lived in the towns of Judah.

18. రాజైన రెహబాము వెట్టిపనివారిమీద అధికారి యైన హదోరమును పంపగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు రాళ్లతో అతని చావ గొట్టిరి గనుక రాజైన రెహబాము యెరూష లేమునకు పారిపోవలెనని త్వరపడి తన రథము ఎక్కెను.

18. Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor. When Rehoboam sent him to the people, they threw stones at him until he died. But King Rehoboam ran to his chariot and escaped to Jerusalem.

19. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఇప్పటికిని దావీదు సంతతివారిమీద తిరుగుబాటు చేసి నేటివరకును వారికి లోబడకయున్నారు.

19. Since then, Israel has been against the family of David.
