1. While Israel was staying in Acacia Grove, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab.

2. The women invited them to the sacrifices for their gods, and the people ate and bowed in worship to their gods.

3. So Israel aligned itself with Baal of Peor, and the LORD's anger burned against Israel.

4. The LORD said to Moses, 'Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD so that His burning anger may turn away from Israel.'

5. కాబట్టి మోషే ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల న్యాయాధి పతులను పిలిపించి మీలో ప్రతివాడును బయల్పెయో రుతో కలిసికొనిన తన తన వశములోనివారిని చంపవలెనని చెప్పెను.

5. So Moses told Israel's judges, 'Kill each of the men who aligned themselves with Baal of Peor.'

6. ఇదిగో మోషే కన్నుల యెదుటను, ప్రత్య క్షపు గుడారము యొక్క ద్వారము నొద్ద ఏడ్చుచుండిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సర్వసమాజము యొక్క కన్నులయెదుటను, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు ఒక మిద్యాను స్త్రీని తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

6. An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

7. యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు అది చూచి,

7. When Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw [this], he got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand,

8. సమాజమునుండి లేచి, యీటెను చేత పట్టుకొని పడకచోటికి ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని వెంబడి వెళ్లి ఆ యిద్దరిని, అనగా ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని ఆ స్త్రీని కడుపులో గుండ దూసిపోవు నట్లు పొడిచెను; అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి తెగులు నిలిచి పోయెను.

8. followed the Israelite man into the tent, and drove it through both the Israelite man and the woman-- through her belly. Then the plague on the Israelites was stopped,

9. ఇరువది నాలుగువేలమంది ఆ తెగులు చేత చనిపోయిరి.

9. but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.

10. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు,

10. The LORD spoke to Moses,

11. వారి మధ్యను నేను ఓర్వలేని దానిని తాను ఓర్వలేకపోవుట వలన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీదనుండి నా కోపము మళ్లించెను గనుక నేను ఓర్వలేకయుండియు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నశింపజేయలేదు.

11. 'Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the Israelites because he was zealous among them with My zeal, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in My zeal.

12. కాబట్టి నీవు అతనితో ఇట్లనుము అతనితో నేను నా సమాధాన నిబంధనను చేయుచున్నాను.

12. Therefore declare: I grant him My covenant of peace.

13. It will be a covenant of perpetual priesthood for him and his descendants, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.'

14. చంపబడిన వాని పేరు జిమీ, అతడు షిమ్యోనీయులలో తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకు ప్రధానియైన సాలూ కుమారుడు.

14. The name of the slain Israelite man, who was struck dead with the Midianite woman, was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite ancestral house.

15. చంపబడిన స్త్రీ పేరు కొజ్బీ, ఆమె సూరు కుమార్తె. అతడు మిద్యానీయులలో ఒక గోత్రమునకును తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకును ప్రధానియై యుండెను.

15. The name of the slain Midianite woman was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur, a tribal head of an ancestral house in Midian.

16. మరియు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెను మిద్యానీయులు తమ తంత్రములవలన మీకు బాధకులై యున్నారు; వారిని బాధపెట్టి హతము చేయుడి;

16. The LORD told Moses:

17. 'Attack the Midianites and strike them dead.

18. For they attacked you with the treachery that they used against you in the Peor incident. They did the same in the case involving their sister Cozbi, daughter of the Midianite leader who was killed the day the plague came at Peor.'
