1. ఇవియును సొలొమోను సామెతలే యూదారాజైన హిజ్కియా సేవకులు వీటిని ఎత్తి వ్రాసిరి.

1. These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2. సంగతి మరుగుచేయుట దేవునికి ఘనత సంగతి శోధించుట రాజులకు ఘనత.

2. [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings [is] to search out a matter.

3. ఆకాశముల యెత్తును భూమి లోతును రాజుల అభిప్రాయమును అగోచరములు.

3. The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.

4. వెండిలోని మష్టు తీసివేసినయెడల పుటము వేయువాడు పాత్రయొకటి సిద్ధపరచును.

4. Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.

5. రాజు ఎదుటనుండి దుష్టులను తొలగించినయెడల అతని సింహాసనము నీతివలన స్థిరపరచబడును.

5. Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6. రాజు ఎదుట డంబము చూపకుము గొప్పవారున్న చోట నిలువకుము.

6. Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:

7. నీ కన్నులు చూచిన ప్రధానియెదుట ఒకడు నిన్ను తగ్గించుటకంటె ఇక్కడికి ఎక్కి రమ్మని అతడు నీతో చెప్పుట నీకు మేలు గదా.

7. For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up here; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.

8. ఆలోచన లేక వ్యాజ్యెమాడుటకు పోకుము నీ పొరుగువాడు నిన్ను అవమానపరచిదాని అంత మున ఇక నీవేమి చేయుదువని నీతో అనునేమో.

8. Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in its end, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9. నీ పొరుగువానితో నీవు వ్యాజ్యెమాడవచ్చును గాని పరునిగుట్టు బయటపెట్టకుము.

9. Debate thy cause with thy neighbour [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:

10. బయటపెట్టినయెడల వినువాడు నిన్ను అవమానపరచు నేమో అందువలన నీకు కలిగిన అపకీర్తి యెన్నటికిని పోకుండును.

10. Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.

11. సమయోచితముగా పలుకబడిన మాట చిత్రమైన వెండి పళ్లెములలో నుంచబడిన బంగారు పండ్లవంటిది.

11. A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12. బంగారు కర్ణభూషణమెట్టిదో అపరంజి ఆభరణ మెట్టిదో వినువాని చెవికి జ్ఞానముగల ఉపదేశకుడు అట్టివాడు.

12. [As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13. నమ్మకమైన దూత తనను పంపువారికి కోతకాలపు మంచు చల్లదనమువంటివాడు వాడు తన యజమానుల హృదయమును తెప్పరిల్ల జేయును.

13. As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14. కపటమనస్సుతో దానమిచ్చి డంబము చేయువాడు వర్షములేని మబ్బును గాలిని పోలియున్నాడు.

14. Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.

15. దీర్ఘశాంతముచేత న్యాయాధిపతిని ఒప్పించ వచ్చును సాత్వికమైన నాలుక యెముకలను నలుగగొట్టును.

15. By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16. తేనె కనుగొంటివా? తగినంతమట్టుకే త్రాగుము అధికముగా త్రాగినయెడల కక్కి వేయుదువేమో

16. Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.

17. మాటిమాటికి నీ పొరుగువాని యింటికి వెళ్లకుము అతడు నీవలన విసికి నిన్ను ద్వేషించునేమో.

17. Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.

18. తన పొరుగువానిమీద కూటసాక్ష్యము పలుకువాడు సమ్మెటను ఖడ్గమును వాడిగల అంబును పోలినవాడు.

18. A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour [is] a club, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19. శ్రమకాలములో విశ్వాసఘాతకుని ఆశ్రయించుట విరిగిన పళ్లతోను కీలు వసిలిన కాలుతోను సమానము.

19. Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20. దుఃఖచిత్తునికి పాటలు వినుపించువాడు చలిదినమున పైబట్ట తీసివేయువానితోను సురేకారముమీద చిరకపోయువానితోను సమానుడు.

20. [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon soda, so [is] he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21. నీ పగవాడు ఆకలిగొనినయెడల వానికి భోజనము పెట్టుము దప్పిగొనినయెడల వానికి దాహమిమ్ము

21. If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:

22. అట్లు చేయుటచేత వాని తలమీద నిప్పులు కుప్పగా పోయుదువు యెహోవా అందుకు నీకు ప్రతిఫలమిచ్చును.

22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

23. ఉత్తరపు గాలి వాన పుట్టించును కొండెగాని నాలుక కోపదృష్టి కలిగించును.

23. The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24. గయ్యాళితో పెద్ద యింట నుండుటకంటె మిద్దెమీద నొక మూలను నివసించుట మేలు

24. [It is] better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25. దప్పిగొనినవానికి చల్లని నీరు ఎట్లుండునో దూరదేశమునుండి వచ్చిన శుభసమాచారము అట్లుండును.

25. [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.

26. కలకలు చేయబడిన ఊటయు చెడిపోయిన బుగ్గయు నీతిమంతుడు దుష్టునికి లోబడుటయు సమానములు.

26. A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27. తేనె నధికముగా త్రాగుట మంచిది కాదు. దుర్లభమైన సంగతి పరిశీలన చేయుట ఘనతకు కారణము.

27. [It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.

28. ప్రాకారము లేక పాడైన పురము ఎంతో తన మనస్సును అణచుకొనలేనివాడును అంతే.

28. He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
